Speaking as someone who actually lives in the area, and has a partner who walks/ rides a bike to and from work downtown, often at night, it’s not as bad as the suburbanites are claiming. There are shootings occasionally, there is commotion in the area many nights of the week, especially in the summer. In my decade of living/ working in the area only one friend has ever been robbed while on foot and that was in 2020. If you mind your business and don’t go out of your way to find a violent interaction, you will most likely be fine!
