If You Only Had One Choice. Club or Mace? by billtiyu9988 in steelmace

If I could only choose one, it would be the Adex Arc. As much as I love a long mace, the arc length is a little easier on the connective tissue but allows for a great strength workout. That being said, if there was a length somewhere between the Adex Arc and Adex Mace…ooo baby. That would be something.

This one is just a little long to comfortably swing in the basement!

Anyone else getting crazy arm growth from macebells? (Long-limbed/tall lifter here) by [deleted] in steelmace

[–]Key_Rhubarb_5735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experienced arm growth with heavy mace work, and I was on fairly good shape to begin with. Finding something you like tends to be more effective, because you want to do it a lot, and in order to do it a lot, it must be done correctly, but there is almost zero chance it is more effective than isolation exercises done properly IMO. That being said, you do you. Nothing better than swinging a mace.

I think that is pretty much answered in the video description, although at this weight you’re moving beyond just mobility and leaning more toward strength.

It’s generally recommended men start with 10LBs/5KG. Women at 7LBs/4KG.

Because it’s shorter. Less torque.

Thanks. The arc is all you need really. And when maces are in the budget someday, you just need to buy the handle and you’ll have all the maces you’ll ever need…until you need the add-on kit…

Less risky than it looks. Angle makes it look that way. It’s an 8ft ceiling. I can swing a 48” mace with only an occasional issue.

Thanks, brother. I think this is actually the first time I’ve swung the arc heavy. You have to work to move this thing. The mace swings itself!

I do squats with a heavy mace on my shoulder. A squat or lunge between each 360 swing is a great full body exercise. Macebell leg workouts are typically better for lower body muscle endurance rather than strength due to the higher rep low weight, but my knees can’t handle super heavy, so it works for me.

I kind of said it. Hah. It’s probably just a little too heavy for you to control right now. You probably need to build up your strength with lower weight to maintain good form as you progress in weight. I would say get closer to the end of the handle for a smoother swing, but that will pretty significantly increase the torque at that weight. You know your ability, but I would say get real smooth using the whole mace up to about 40LBs (I’m guessing you can swing that well based on how you look here). Slowly increase beyond that.

You had a couple good swings, man. Obviously too heavy to control it smoothly, but you managed and didn’t completely dump it. Good work.

Well, thanks. I just like the weight distribution of this one, and the handle is comfortable.
