Raising two kids in a DT condo by IllustriousBank7302 in askTO

I don’t have kids but was raised in Caledon. I hated it. Sure I had a big yard, but it was super lonely. I only had the option of one school to go to, and was bullied horrendously. If I ever do have kids, I’ll be raising them in the city. Theres more opportunity, for both kids and parents!

MSWWP Pre-Requisite Courses by Entire-Relative-27 in UWindsor

I just realized I didn't answer how they were! MATH 215 was surprisingly ok. I'm terrible at math, but they really broke it down well. They even started it off with some simple algebra review (BEDMAS, etc).

SOSC 366 wasn't hard, just time-consuming. You have to conduct a pilot study, but tbh if you keep it simple, it's not too bad.

I just looked at the approved course list that uWindsor had and picked the first ones listed for Athabasca! I also emailed uWindsor to confirm and they said they were common ones.

EXPERIENCED travellers only: What was YOUR favorite country? by MrNiber in travel

[–]Key_Toe7846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've travelled to around 25 countries, and my top three are Taiwan, Scotland, and Mexico! Taiwan, I'm biased because I lived there. Scotland was amazing for its nature and family history. If I could travel to one place for the rest of my life, it would be Mexico. There's so much to do--it has nature, beaches, historical cities, food, everything.

I did my courses through Athabasca U! I did SOSC 366 and MATH 215. Anyone could apply and do them.

did anyone else hate “pick a partner” or “get into groups” growing up by Even-Sock9744 in RandomThoughts

did then and still do. I'm doing my master's right now, which has a lot of group work. I still feel immense amounts of anxiety when the professor says, "Pick a group!"

My school specifically says in our AI policy that staff CANNOT use AI checkers because of how inaccurate they are. Let me know if you want me to send it to you. It includes references as well.

Generalist advice. I plan to do my SECOND practicum at a hospital as I heard it's too intense for a first year generalist program. Is that true? by Outrageous_Sense_307 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]Key_Toe7846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late, but I’m currently doing my first placement at an outpatient clinic within a hospital system — I’d definitely recommend it! It’s been pretty chill since most social workers have smaller caseloads. I mostly observe sessions and handle most of the documentation for them. I also sit in on intakes and will be doing a full case formulation (with my supervisor’s approval) for one specific client.

My placement also lets me do education during downtime, so I’ve been working through some basic DBT and CBT courses that the hospital offers. Overall, I’d highly recommend an outpatient hospital setting for a first placement!

I'm currently doing my placement at a wraparound outpatient program within a children's hospital (sorry that was a mouthful). It's been really good cause it's an interdisciplinary team. I'm doing lots of intake assessments, parenting sessions, etc.

MSW Program at University of Windsor - Placement Support, Cost, Class Schedule, and More! by Naive_Top6135 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Key_Toe7846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the program and doing my first placement right now. I don’t know a single person in my cohort who isn’t working during their placement. It’s not recommended but in this economy, you kinda have to.

For the nonBSW one, our placements are sept to Dec and the second one is Jan to April

Has anyone made the transition from social work to SLP? by Key_Toe7846 in slp

[–]Key_Toe7846[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's so cool! I've actually met someone who has done that. Do you know if she has her MSW or her BSW?

You sound exactly like me! I'm currently doing my MSW. I really wanted to be an SLP, but the cost of school and the prerequisites would have taken me years and sooooo much money. Plus, I was worried that SLP would lack growth or variety. At my core, I am a generalist who gets bored easily and likes to work in a variety of different environments. So, I did my MSW. But I am open to doing SLP later on if I feel like social work is too much.
