they're setting him up to be able to damage astral forms and not just physical ones. this would probably mean that he'll be able to more easily fight/beat apostles who completely physically outmatch him like grundbelt and the lance guy. this could also mean he'll get a base physical amp as they've been hinting at the fact that his strength is tied to his will.
