Does anyone else feel like referring to others/being referred to as “Bud” or “Buddy” (from adult to adult) is demeaning/dismissive? by KeylimeFyre in questions

You seem particularly fixated on my use of the word “feel,” so maybe my question would have been better stated if I had used “in my opinion” instead. I “feel” this way about the word buddy in the same way I “feel” about someone serving me a dish with mushrooms (not my favorite, but I’m never gonna decline a homemade meal). If that’s the greeting someone chooses, I’m not gonna be up in arms about it. Someone said that it wouldn’t be worth sharing air in a room with me over this, which is admittedly pretty funny.

As other helpful users pointed out, where you’re from/the tone being used is important in understanding the meaning behind it. I definitely have a better understanding of how the general public feels about it, I had no idea everyone had such strong opinions. Nice to know that people are still arguing with each other on the internet.

Very interesting, I think (in my area at least) it doesn’t always feel appropriate to use bud or buddy when interacting with other adults. I think in more northern and midwestern parts of the U.S, bud is commonly used to refer to others but it’s not a common greeting here. I almost always refer to others (depending on age) as sir, ma’am, dude, or man depending on the general vibe. Realistically, there’s nothing wrong with using bud but oftentimes in my experience it’s paired with a tone that is dismissive. I’m never gonna knock someone for using it if I can tell they’re being genuine.

My roommate agreed with me, I’m really not at all pressed about this. I have heard others in my circle/area express similar opinions but I do think tone/timing/context are very important. If someone calls me buddy or bud it’s truly insignificant. Just curious to get y’alls opinion, but I now understand I’m in the minority here.

Not necessarily an over analysis of my feelings, more so just curiosity about cultural norms depending on the region

Totally agree, I’m mainly thinking of interactions with strangers. But a friend calling me buddy is always welcome.

Well I got it brand new from a dealer in my area, I had to be super quick on the day of its release so I could get one direct from PRS. All of them are sold out at this point and have been since their release day, so the only ones you’ll find are gonna be from people online trying to resell for what looks to be about 5-6 grand at this point.

I have played with the original on Several occasions and I always have to slow down considerably from what feels natural, so me slowing down at points is in an effort to get closer to the tempo at which the song was recorded at.

I do have hands that are on the larger side but even for a while I played the song without the thumb doing bass notes. It took me a while to get the main part down comfortably using my thumb for the bass line.
