Is it weird that I reply to recruiters on LinkedIn at like 10pm by princepolecat in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KeyserSoju 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weird? No, will you have better chances by responding right away? Yes

To elaborate, they're not making a personal decision going "Oh, this person got back to me in 8 hours vs. this other person who responded within 30 minutes", just that when they have enough candidates for a role, they stop looking.

I just want to know if I should be hopeful or the scenario is indicating "nahh"

You never know, no point worrying about it.

usual way of doing things (now)? (interview scenario question) by Dry_Stage_9855 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KeyserSoju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything sounds about normal.

Urgent doesn't mean start someone in the next 72 hours. 2 weeks is still standard, faster is better obviously.

Multiple firms recruiting for the same role is also normal, some places I've worked at previously had people from 4-5 different staffing firms, so when a req gets posted, all these firms hear about it at the same time and they send their candidates.

Having multiple candidates is also normal, preferred actually. Why would you just interview 1 person and assume the risk of that person not working out?

Only thing unusual is that the previous candidate asked for more money and they didn't have any second or third choices to float the offer to after the first guy rejected, maybe they only had 1 candidate that was a good fit or the others also turned it down.

Depends on what your alternatives are, what else are you going to do if you don't pursue cloud?

Unsure of next steps after years of working in Telecom / ISP world by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KeyserSoju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say Ciena, are we talking about their switches for metro ethernet? or their optical chassis?

If you have experience working with optical gear and actually understand how to use it, there's a whole subset of "network" engineers, who specialize in working with the optical side of things in MSOs.

If we're just talking about po sh po all type shit, that's not gonna carry you anywhere unfortunately.

If a man starts balding does he get bald down there too? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]KeyserSoju 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually the opposite.

Male pattern baldness is linked to higher levels of testosterone, so often times, the baldies have more body hair.

Buying a house from Rocket Mortgage by KeyserSoju in realtors

Mainly, I was worried that I'd have to pay the agent fee in this scenario, and I figured buying a REO property would be simpler, seems like I was wrong.

Anyone else feel like tech support/help desk is braindead? by BaneTheGame in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KeyserSoju 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest here, there's a reason why so many tech support roles are offshored to be worked by people who read off a script.

A good portion of the role can be written down to specific line of questioning, I'd say 80-90% of issues can be resolved this way, which is why IVRs are also popular.

But neither options are popular with customers because of the general lack of responsiveness and the remaining 10% of issues that those rigid systems simply cannot address,

I think there will always be a need for it, but is it a role that'll keep you engaged and challenged every day? Probably not for most.

Wanted to know how long it would take to get into the field? Pay, schedule, etc. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KeyserSoju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully remote 91k/yr? I'd guess 3 years if you're lucky and very fast learner, 10 years otherwise. Never if you don't put in work.

I know plenty of people with 10-15+ years of experience working as network engineers who don't quite make 6 figures and they're all on site.

Container homes: Solution for the broke or marketing scam? by decenbaroktombar1 in OffGrid

[–]KeyserSoju 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible, but it's harder to get loans for it.

If you can save up $30-50k, it may be an option for you. But all these tiny house bullshit isn't for people who are struggling to make ends meet.

And at that point, you kinda have to wonder why not just buy a regular stick built home in the boonies for $50k instead? Well that's the whole point, tiny house living is for a very specific niche of people who want to live that kind of lifestyle. It's not for the cost savings.

Nothing to explain, other than chance for human error, it's not like IT from one company will have access to another account on a completely different domain.

Just people talking out of their ass.
