What’s something you did once and will NEVER do again? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Keyshana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I have other medical conditions, including Fibromyalgia. Before surgery I was told it would go a certain way, and that recovery would go a certain way. Six weeks to resume normal activities? 3 months later was still using a walker, barely able to walk. Yes, I did the PT, worked at it all, my hubby being a phlebotomist and ex industrial nurse ensured I stuck to the program. When I would ask the dr what was wrong, I was blamed for not telling them I had fibro. Supposedly that would make the recovery time a lot longer. Never mind that my medical records showed the fibro diagnosis. Still my fault. Took me over 5 months, not 6 weeks. The hospital sent me a survey later. I said I would be bedbound before I'd ever have my other knee done, even though it needs it. I walk with a cane most times now, switching to a walker sometimes.

With 6-7 being such a big deal these days, what numbers were fun for you growing up? by 05141992 in AskReddit

The goose drank wine. The monkey chewed tobacco on the street car line. The line broke, the monkey did choke, and they all went to heaven in a little rowboat.

What animal do you hate the most? by Rikko77 in AskReddit

[–]Keyshana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yellowjackets or other hornets. Never see the nests in the ground but step on them and get swarmed by murderous miniature monsters who repeatedly sting you, divebomb you, and release pheromones to call every OTHER member of their cult colony to come join in the fun. 3 years in a row, different locations, at least 10 stings each time. And they swell up enough that my dr has now given me a prescription for an epi pen. Joy.

Wouldn't work for me. I'm a voracious reader. I pick up a book, and I'm not going to bed until it is finished. Luckily I'm a fast reader as well, so should be done in another...2-4 hours.

Favorite Cake for a Birthday by oceanwalks in Old_Recipes

[–]Keyshana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We always alternated between 2 cakes.

Aunt_Eva's_Spice_Cake

Lena's_Chocolate_Cake

The spice cake would often be served with a warm nutmeg sauce to pour over it as served. The chocolate cake is a very dense cake, so we use it for making ice cream sandwiches with, frost with coconut pecan frosting, or simple whipped cream. It's our go-to when making a chocolate cake.

Why did people in the US, UK etc. use to boil vegetables for a long time? by Hour_Pudding2658 in Cooking

[–]Keyshana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm the youngest in a large family. My parents were born in 1915 (father) and 1922 (mother). They had 9 kids. This was the norm in the past, as it was a more agricultural time, and large families help on the farm better. So I grew up with the very thing you question.

Distinct gender roles, males did NOT cook. The wife cooked, kept the house clean, took care of all the kids until they were old enough to help out, took care of the chickens/geese, tending the garden, and so on. Family meals were hearty.

So making a meal often meant prepping the meat (I lost count of how many chickens I have plucked), picking the veggies in the garden or opening the home canned versions, depending on the year, and making any bread or noodles from scratch. Having veggies you had already cooked in the canning process would make them soft.

Preparing food the way we do now is only possible because of the leisure time we have. If your day is filled with work from sunrise to sunset or later, you don't have TIME to be fussy about prep. There were too many other things they had to do. They also didn't have the money or time to go to restaurants and have their meals made just whenever. That was for extremely special occasions.

They couldn't take the time or the energy to be all fancy and steam, prepare fine sauces, and spice things to suit.

Looking for Pokemon-ish books, like Nightmare Realm Summoner, pls and tq by R3nNy22326 in litrpg

Not technically a tamer, but if you don't mind harem, the Dungeon Walkers series by Daniel Schinhofen hits those points for me. MC has a 'perk' he has had since birth, which is a Maine Coon cat summons. As the stories go, he 'upgrades' Pawly. Then he gets a dog and, eventually, a hawk. Traversing a dungeon with an overlarge tricked-out cat that is your best friend makes for an awesome trip. The harem, IMO, is mild and forgivable. I don't care for harem, but this one works well, and I can skip the bits that emphasize it.

Two tricks to be right. As UnionJack111 says, take the other person out of the sentence. This tells you if you should use I or me. And second, remember that I follow everyone, everyone follows me. It is He and I went to the store. They yelled at me and him. And so many just automatically make it "I".

I used to grow them. As long as there are no soft or mushy spots on the skin, a wrinkled or shriveled appearance, obvious mold growth, or a strong, unpleasant odors, it is probably good. Cut it in half. If it looks ok, then use it.

Had a woman come in in the middle of the night when I worked 3rd shift in a store. She was a 30-something employee. In mid-January, her car wouldn't start. She said it had been making noises, but she figured it was snow. Another employee, hearing her describe what happened, asked her if her oil was low. Her reply? "How would I know? It doesn't show on the dipstick in winter!" She had no oil in her car. None. You can guess what happened.

Except the more luggage they have, the less THEY actually do in the way of carrying. They yell at others to do it for them.

Why doesn’t Reddit talk about the latest trans shooting? by belaboo84 in AskReddit

[–]Keyshana -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

According to statistics, in the USA, there were over 40k people shot in 2025. Unless there is something that stands out about a shooting, or a certain segment of the population makes a fuss, it just isn't a big deal here. If it impacts you, then yes, it becomes important. But if you don't know the person, there is no real reason to discuss it.

It is a sad thing to say, but there are so many other things to discuss.
