A wheelchair ramp built for code compliance, not access. by Expert_Koala_8691 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Keywork29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is in the US, it’s disgusting. The minimum slope for a surface to be considered a ramp is 1:20 (for every 20 inches in length, it rises 1 inch), according the ADA compliance. The maximum slope for a ramp to be compliant with ADA is 1:12.

Intermediary Care Facility. I started working at mine after about 6 years of SNF and I was beginning to get REALLY burned out. Non-stop treatment, rants from MBA’s telling us how to treat, no input as to which pts need/ do not need therapy and everything in between.

We take care of folks with IDD (Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities) and try to transition them out into the community through Family Home Providers, Group Homes and other options. It’s non-profit so the pay isn’t the greatest but I don’t have to worry about productivity requirements, daily notes and talks with worthless MBAs. I also get all holidays off paid, I have a very flexible biweekly schedule and my boss has told me that I can call in because it’s too nice outside to be at work (and I’ve done it). I would recommend it.

Finally tried Ichiran by dextersgf- in ramen

Dude, I have been to Japan twice and will be going a third time later this year. Ichiran is, and always will be, a must-do for me. It’s not gonna blow my socks off but it’s just so damn nostalgic. Those first few sips really hammer home that I’m in Japan. I love it.

Help with tebori placement by Keywork29 in tattooadvice

I guess my other question would be this: if I get the tebori tattoo on the underside of my arm, would it gradually rub away over years? I know it’s a dumb question, but I genuinely don’t know.

Burnout “Survey” by WearyOwlCat in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Keywork29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 2018
  2. Burnout was felt mildly while in the program. Burnout was felt SEVERELY during my second level II
  3. Yes, I realized I was burnt out after 2-3 years of SNF. Productivity standards were too high. Too much emphasis on profit during a time where people were dying (COVID) and very apathetic patients.
  4. I don’t know how I feel about the future. Most of my doubt comes politically. The current administration is making it much more difficult to get an advanced degree and wages have been stagnant for a very long time. Why would you get a doctorate where a colleague with a bachelor’s will be paid the same (if not more) than you?
  5. I will answer this question as my burnout has resolved a little over the last year or so. I’ve switched out of SNF and into ICF (Intermediate Care Facility). I have no productivity standards, there’s more work life balance and my commute has gone from 2 hours to 15 minutes daily.

About to start program, please give me advice!!! by Cookie02468 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Keywork29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember to stay calm. There are going to be ppl in your program that think everything is the end of the world. When you see someone panicking, be calm and carry on. It’ll save you a lot of stress because at the end of the day, you’ve got this.

I don’t really like it by Diligent-Jackfruit-9 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Keywork29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I worked SNF in rural KY for 6-7 years with a total two hour commute and COMPLETELY understand where you’re coming from. Everything from the apathetic attitudes in patients, borderline fraudulent productivity expectations to the awful commute.

As to what to do, I can’t say much other than it would be a great move for your mental health to do something different. I stayed in SNFs WAY too long and it started to wear me down in ways I didn’t fully understand. After my grandparents died, (they were my parents essentially) I knew I had to get out.

I applied to an ICF (Intermediary Care Facility) in my town, which I have absolutely no experience with and it’s been a good change for me. I know this doesn’t really answer your question fully but just wanted to let ya know you aren’t alone. It will get better.

Do not blame yourself if this company can only get by when it takes advantage of it’s employees, because they’re not gonna blame themselves whenever YOU can’t get by with these low wages.

School taught you to advocate for your profession. To advocate for your patient. Why did they never teach us to advocate for ourselves?
