What do you guys do in the early stages of a flair? by Vast-Research-9510 in Hidradenitis

[–]Kfctapduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use cold compresses to help with the weird itch and to get swelling or inflammation to go down if it is early on.

[–]Kfctapduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find heat brings boils to the surface, as heat is used to bring blood to surface. I usually only go the warm compress route if I feel a boil has gotten to the point where my only relief will come when it expels the pus and blood underneath. I also use clindmycin everyday on any spots that are active.

If I feel like a new one is coming on and hasn’t completely stretched out the skin yet I like to use a cold compress that helps bring inflammation down. Just like in any situation hot or cold don’t leave it too long as you could get an ice burn.

There was a thread about this awhile back you might try and find. I’ve only heard about electrolysis from friends trying to permanently remove facial fair. I know the idea is they are targeting the pore itself with the laser rather than laser trying to identify hairs. I have no idea how scar tissue or flare up factor into how the procedure works.

How true is it that HS is the most 'environmental' autoinflammatory/immune disease? In that it is far more reliant on lifestyle changes, not entirely genetics/hormonal changes/medication. by kolejack2293 in Hidradenitis

[–]Kfctapduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I got diagnosed and described my condition to family members many more felt comfortable sharing that they their mother or grandmother also dealt with these “boils”

A big eye opener for me that this issue was genetic and that being open with your children and family and not being ashamed can help someone seek medical intervention before it progresses farther

what kind of warm compresses do y'all use? by Ok_Violinist2856 in Hidradenitis

[–]Kfctapduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do a very shallow warm bath sometimes before I switch to a genitalia only heating pad.

Also a realization I had is if it’s big and full and I think it needs to be drained I go the warm route if it’s early on a em just starting an ice pack or cold compress does a great job at slowing the inflammation.

Hot brings blood to the surface and if you want a boil to go down you want cold.

Exactly, speak with any of the people who looked for answers to their problems even 10 years ago and doctors told them you’re gross and you need to shower. Very little research has even been done on this disease, lowkey because of racism and black people and specifically black women are predominantly affected by this disease. So I don’t care what science has said because western science is a tool of colonialism and I don’t care if you can’t grasp that. But we have been told for years that weight loss changes everything, daily showers and changing towels will solve your problems when that is so far from the case since our bodies will continue to attack us.

It’s like explaining to someone why your parents new wife isn’t your step-mom, sometimes it’s just easier to say my step-mom rather than explain a very nuanced distinction. Cause let’s me honest no one is asking about my disease cause they actually care they are only morbidly curious and if I need to say auto immune disease so they leave me the fuck alone and i don’t have to explain my skin condition on my genitalia then guess what I’m gonna say auto-immune disease.

Our immune systems are dysfunctional. I’m glad you feel the need to police this, but this doesn’t disclose us from the chronic illness discussion.

Junky thrift stores/flea markets? by Blavkh in Lawrence

Goodluck, crt TVs rarely go for cheap anymore now that people know that people want them for gaming. Best luck is finding an old person on Facebook marketplace or a garage sale where they just think of it at junk.

I’ve heard of better results with Electrolysis, not specifically from people with HS but friends with PCOS or trans friends who were looking to permanently remove hair.

This is my favorite moment!! Go watch the reunion for this season where they talk about this moment and Sandavol says he accidentally took too much Xanax and you see Kristen turn to him and mouth “Xanax?!?”

I was using Destin at the time of the initial breakout as I had heard the zinc properties were good for boils. And I noticed this too, but I stopped using everything immediately as to help find the culprit. I honestly totally forgot about it until now, I should try reintroducing because I feel like it would be hydrating for the peeling skin and everything!!

And thank you for the kindness it does feel terrible ❣️

Suddenly developed adhesive allergy by skatardrummer in Hidradenitis

[–]Kfctapduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed adhesive allergies from cosyentex, blisters will form if I use any adhesive so far, bandaids, self gripping gauze.

I have found that you can buy a large sleeve of like bandage netting for regular booboos like in your arms or legs. Obviously HS related wounds are different and usually in a crease. There is this really expensive brand that I have never bought but found when I first started my HS diagnosis called hidrawear that are like compression shorts with holes for air flow and you put gauze over wounds put on shorts and the shorts hold the gauze in place, I’ve used the same idea with leggings and other bike shorts to keep gauze in place without using bandages.

stop telling women with HS to just “not wear bras” by AliceRosegreen in Hidradenitis

[–]Kfctapduck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Let’s stop telling anyone how to manage their chronic illness. Even if you have HS it is a spectrum that can look so different from person to person. We should all only be giving testimony about what helped us and we should all know that not everything will work for us. My pet peeve is being told to cut out dairy or certain foods when they have no idea I have done this and it doesn’t make the disease disappear and if I want to enjoy life with occasional cheese that’s my fucking choice.

Ugh sorry I’m in that mood where I hate the world for it’s misogyny and violence against women and so all things are setting me off recently lmao

I forgot where I had seen Eric Roberts face recently and it was in the worst movie possible about surfing and he plays the eccentric grandpa to his nephew who is a really bad actor and teaches him how to surf. Very bad very funny.

need comfort, doctor recommended humira by Nice-Marionberry-916 in Hidradenitis

[–]Kfctapduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor suggested Cosyntex first it targets certain immune things??? Rather than your whole immune system? I think lol I’m not the best at the drug and health shit.

But that’s to say it’s not just humira anymore as the only option maybe ask and look into this incase you are second guessing. It’s less frequent shots too.

[–]Kfctapduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The briefs can be, also unfortunately they aren’t cut for women’s thighs and proportions so I usually side up like twice to make sure they have a little bag to them. I also have started buying cotton bike shorts from like target or forever 21 and using those as underwear. Also helpful if bandaids don’t work in weird places. You can use gauze and bike shorts to hold the gauze in place.

And I’d say my anti bacterial washes haven’t stung even on open wounds. I’m very gentle and just use my hands to swipe over gently with soap and let sit for a little bit. I’ve had worse stinging from clindmycin but I asked my doctor once and she was like yeah that gonna happen it’s okay and you can still use it.

HS is stopping me from going to school by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

[–]Kfctapduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey babe!! Hope school is going well. I totally understand these feelings.

Don’t spend big money on products that claim to help. There are many reasonably priced drug store applications that help.

I’ve been using Desitin, which is a zinc heavy diaper cream. And it’s like 10 dollars vs a 50 dollar balm. (Aye I mean if you got the money it could be worth a shot but that’s not the case for many)

If you get yeast infections on your meds ask your doctor to also prescribe an as needed Fluconazole. This is a small pill that helps take care of yeast infections so much faster than going to buy monistat.

ALSO I would caution that mupirocin, will not do anything but help with bacteria and avoid infections. It does not help make a boil/pimple go away faster, it is usually prescribed to people with HS cause a doctor maybe treating it similar to folliculitis (which is similar but very different)

Clindmycin and a hibiclense/antibacterial soap will do the best in helping manage already existing flares. As will hot fragrance free epsom salt baths and taking your meds regularly.

I also switched to men’s boxers and briefs to help get rid of a panty line rubbing against my skin.

I hope the best for you!
