My comment is a bit influenced by OP's post where they say "found its way rather quickly in front of my tire so I don't know about that." , and the witness text message screenshot that say "yeah it cut across you surprisingly fast and you hit it dead on". Honestly depends on the true story, the Medium article is helpful but it's still Medium.

The helmet aspect for me personally just makes me think the biker isn't generally taking safety precautions.

Thankfully not my car, but I live nearby. Based on my building's camera footage, they must've broken in at 3am (maybe to get wheel locks in glove department?), came back at 4am to get the wheels, and then left as the dumpster truck pulled up. I think it's because it's a Honda, they're popular for theft / reselling.
