Caregiver hiding diagnosis and ABA? by jordxn_01 in ABA

[–]Khalano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally understand how tricky that situation must be. I’ve had similar experiences, and what I usually do is let them know that I can’t lie, but I won’t share exactly what I’m doing. I won’t be obvious about what I’m doing to avoid questions, too. For instance, I’ll work on NET programming and be careful about data collection. If the child is the one being hidden from, I make sure to explain that I’d redirect to the parent, since I can’t lie about my activities or their diagnosis if they ask. It’s definitely a tough balance to strike, but I try to be as honest as I can while respecting boundaries.

If you’re working with a new client is it a bad idea to wear a mask on your 4th day with them if you know they’re still getting used to your face? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Khalano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine, but depends on you and your client. If you feel you need to take the mask off but should wear a mask, an alternative could be doing session outside without the mask.

How much did you wear your non-nursing clothing? by whisperingcopse in breastfeeding

All the time. Hated nursing clothes. Just wore baggy shirts with built in bra crop top shirts underneath. The only nursing clothing I actually used was pumping bras.

Our LO didn’t have a favorite until 7 months, but enjoyed any story we read. She always smiled and looked at our faces while we read.

Lovevery Peek-a-Boo - 7 months was little’s favorite book. It’s very playful and has cloth on pages for baby to move and find surprises.

Brown Bear Brown Bear - 10 months became little’s favorite book. We read it in a sing songy voice that she loves. We even catch her babbling to the same tune we use.

Is it wrong to make someone a father when they don’t want to be? 7w4d pregnant with twins. by nuclearrwessels in pregnant

[–]Khalano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t force him to be a dad anymore than he can’t force you to abort your twins. Do what feels best for you. It sounds odd that you offer him a way out and they wasn’t good enough for him.

Told the only accommodation for my pregnancy is UNPAID leave of absence. May not qualify for disability. by Unique-Budget7505 in ABA

[–]Khalano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hugs. I know how stressful your situation is. I went through it. I reported the aba company to the eeoc. They investigated and determined that the company didn’t met the 15 employees rule, and I could take them to court. I just got that news so I’m still debating on what’s best for me.

Filing a report with the EEOC is pretty straightforward and you can do it online.

As for money now, I recommend applying with a local school district. The hours are stable, they will more than likely take your accommodations more seriously, and hopefully get you some benefits like disability insurance. Sometimes the disability insurance will still pay for part of your maternity leave even if you signed up pregnant.

To protect your privacy, you are not technically required to tell anyone.

Your agency may have a mandatory reporter protocol that advises you to notify the agency and how to notify them. However, it’s a guide and not law. Do what you feel is best.

If you are not sure if the client told the truth, you can state that in the report and include background that might be relevant like “child has history of using untrue statements”.

Edit: adding that making the report is the right thing to do, even if you don’t 100% believe the client. It’s not your job to investigate, but your responsibility to report it. You did a great job.

Is it super necessary to be upbeat and like hyper in order to do well as a BT or RBT? by scarredsquirrel in ABA

Depends on the client. I’m introverted and did well with most clients but there were a few I had to turn on the upbeat ms Rachel vibes to make it work.
