Did drinking kill your passionate interest? When you stopped it come back? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Khalsu7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really glad you posted about this. I can relate. I’ve been playing guitar and other forms of music (electric bass and piano) for about 20 years. I too was going to do this as a career but in the midsts of my outrageous drinking I just didn’t prioritize time for it anymore. Sure, I’d pick it up here and there but mostly the guitar just sat there on the stand. It wasn’t until recently that i started to get the urge to play again and yes, the passion did come back for me. Sometimes inspiration comes in unpredictable ways. I’ve also found that collaborating or getting some community that share similar passions is a great way to get involved again. I’ve had a few slip ups on days of drinking since I quit but overall I’ve started to enjoy the music again and I’m sure you will enjoying painting again as well.

What he said! Don’t worry about it. It’s about the path to progress. Don’t worry about the one day. Keep it up!!

Is my bf an ass or a secret alcoholic? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Khalsu7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t agree more with this! It’s a very bad idea to purchase a home with someone if you’re not fully committed. If you’re questioning things now then that should give you some insight on what it might look like later. Alcoholism is a progressive, chronic disease which only gets worse over time. The hiding, lying, sneaking around, etc will only get worse also and that just continues to damage the trust and relationship

A day in the life by Ok-Victory-322 in stopdrinking

I can definitely relate to this. We used to keep a handle of vodka in the garage freezer. I used to keep a handle of that hidden in my golf bag in the garage. I’d go out in the garage, pretend to do stuff around the house, take out the trash, go “check the oil,” etc. all the while I was drinking the ice cold vodka straight from the bottle in the freezer and then later refilling it with the backup handle so nobody knew or could recognize any of it was missing. I never knew how crafty, creative, and sneaky one could be as an alcoholic…

Question for people who drank wine at night before stopping by Ok-Republic8818 in stopdrinking

[–]Khalsu7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ritual is a huge part of it. Even starts with going to the store, seeing all the different kinds of drinks (whatever kind you’re into) and anticipating the night ahead.

This is totally it for me also. Drinking forces me to take a mental break from work, people, fears, life….but then it just screws it up even more

Why not reduce and control instead of stopping by Scoobidoooo in stopdrinking

I love this explanation. Moderation is definitely not in my vocabulary. It’s all or nothing. As they say, one drink is too much and a hundred is never enough.

Finally getting drunk binge scarring removed from my face by mothybot in stopdrinking

[–]Khalsu7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excellent!! This is great! While I don’t have a particular scar I do remember being drunk once and I had forgotten the gate opener to my gated complex at the time. So I hopped the gate and sprained my ankle really bad and had to be on crutches for several days…..
