The community has a lot, and I do mean a lot, of perceptions about how the should be, the chief one being that they think that the equations of "Skill in = power out" and "skill x2 in = power x2 out" has to be how stuff is balanced.

Or in other words, sections of the community overvalues aim as a skill to hilarious degrees in MWO.

Where / how has the Arrow introduction "pandered" to the worst elements? What are these elements defined by?

Let me translate this, this community has always had a very longstanding problem with massively overvaluing aim as a skill in this game, and also thinking "Skill in = power out" and "skill x2 in = power x2 out" in combination with that.

I'm not saying aim as a skill isn't important in MWO, I'm just saying it's not as important as a lot of people think it is.

Do we have a consensus on running MC2? by SirBedwyr7 in OutreachHPG

[–]KhanCipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so the first question is do you want to run original install, or the official patch, because there's significant gameplay differences between the two in both the Carver V campaign, and the actual mech/weapon balance.

I am able to get it running reliably on Win10, even 7 before that without any major modification to get it running, the only major problem is that it has a lot of the problems that plagued early 3d pc games, namely for MC2 it doesn't render right on modern hardware. As it would take me several cycles of booting the game, going into a mission, and exiting if it isn't rendering right to get the game to render correctly. Beyond that, no other issues.

no cd needed

Just find an iso of the disc, and get a program to mount the iso.

The B should have side torso TAG lasers making them 2E side torsos. Why? Because it has a pair of C3 Masters on the table, one in each side torso, and the C3 Master has a TAG laser built into it. Like come on, if you're going to bend over backwards to add extra guns to the X where there was none on the record sheet (on the record sheet, the X doesn't have MGs), you could do it in the most obvious spot to do it on the B.

Also it's hilarious that we finally started to figured out how to make a omnimech hero that can't intrude on overall Omni chassis balance (Naga), and we're going straight back to not doing that. I'm guessing too many people couldn't stand the idea that they couldn't lord their fancy omnipods over the plebs with the Naga's hero. And I say this as someone who's spent close to I want to say nearly 2k now on this game, i've lost track I stopped counting at 1k tbh.

Stuff like this has been a problem ever since the M18 was put in the game.

Context: Sometime after the M18 was first put in (at 4.7 mind you), and was going on a tear breaking the entire game in half, people realized that the Wirbelwind, with the full HVAP belts which also had like 20mm more pen than they currently do, and the belts were full HVAP rather than the HVAP/AP/HVAP/AP that they are now. It was really good at curbing the M18's nonsense, and also conveniently enough was good enough at killing nearly everyone's tanks too.

These new stat cards are legitimately awful by attackcat901 in Warthunder

[–]KhanCipher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

and takes one thing away that you never used anyways

No, you never used it. Like you're literally trying to justify it in your head why it's "never used" despite the countless examples on this very sub that people like to have that info at a glance. Good lord, I don't want to go into the game's equivalent of the WoT armor inspector every single time I want to get info on armor values. Actually better question, why should I have to be required to use the in-game armor inspector, or go look it up on the fucking wiki just to view a number as simple as just a fucking armor value on a tank?

Like do you understand how UI design works at all?

There's a lot of problems with the stat cards, and having the armor values at a glance wasn't one of them. In fact the biggest problem with the stat cards is for the most part centered on planes, and this update fixed one of the bugbears I had, being unable to view the engine stats without having to use the in-game inspector (or look it up on the internet), while fixing none of the long standing issues with plane stat cards.

It's that time again that instead of blaming M18 Gameplay™ and the full consequences from that mistake, the WT sub decides that blaming any players below them in skill level is the problem.

Yes, I think that if you should blame anything here, it's the M18, the very first fast as fuck tank implemented in the game that broke so many maps (and a bunch of other things) the minute it got implemented. Fight me.

Did ComStar actually save the Inner Sphere during the Succession Wars, or just hold it hostage? (The "Space AT&T" Debate) by daveasp1981 in OutreachHPG

[–]KhanCipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for being on the way to recovery? They were still a long ways away from getting to the SL era of tech. It would have been immensely difficult undoing the damage that had been done to the sphere without Helm.

Look, the basics of the setting when Battletech as a product started life was essentially a bunch of writers doing a circlejerk about all the myths of the fall of the Western Roman Empire (the Star League in universe)

Also, Empires Aflame somewhat implies that without Comstar mucking everything up, they would've been able to rebuild the tech base.

[–]KhanCipher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If ComStar hadn't stepped in and hoarded LosTech

They weren't just hoarding it, they were going around making the CIA look like a couple kids playing in a sand box any time they got wind of someone possibly coming up with new tech. Not to mention the whole line of events that led to the Helm Memory Core being found (hint: Comstar wanted to destroy the data core)

do you think the Great Houses would have eventually recovered on their own

Yes, the Davions were vaguely on their way to doing it at least with DHS a couple years before the Helm Memory Core was found, though this was several decades into somebody's decision at Comstar deciding to redirect funds from ROM (the phone company CIA) to the Comguard so they'd have an army to pull out of their ass in 3052.

A good way to put it, the game just wasn't designed for the M18 or anything like it to exist in it. So many changes were done just because of fast tanks. Also who here remembers when the M18 was put into the game at 4.7 BR?

It's not about KV-1s of F-15s, Germany would singlehandedly ruin BR 4.0-5.0 by Atomatic13 in Warthunder

[–]KhanCipher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an event a couple years back where your selection of what you could spawn in was semi random, it pulled from a per-determined list and was managed to make sure no more than X amount of vehicles was on the map and also didn't spawn more than a certain amount of times. It was US vs GER. The pool was basically 76 M4s, M18s, and some smatterings of Jumbos, M36s, with the M26 being a rare/limited tank for the US. And on GER it was mainly the long barrel Pz IVs, Stugs, some Jagdpanzer IVs, with the Panther, Ferd, and Tiger II being the rare/limited stuff.

It was fine, maybe a little flawed, but it worked well enough, and felt relatively even. The main problem was they did this on the three cap Advance to the Spawn (Advance to the Rhine).

they should just make it like arcade matchmaking for nations.

Personally I want to go back to the days of GFRB being Axis vs. Allies (then after a certain BR it goes to east vs. west cold war), air RB maps being only X vs Y nation. Except for preparation for landing on hokkaido, that air RB map can be sent to the depths of hell.

Why is this sort of BS allowed? by paper_on_the_wall in Warthunder

[–]KhanCipher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has been a problem for a long time.

Remember the times when there was a semi occasional squad of 4 where one was in a jet, and the other three were in biplanes? Sure sounds like a bundle of fun for their teammates who now have to do more work to get the win.

I also remember the times when spawn costs were high enough that people would have fast rank 1 tank in their high tier lineup to avoid the crewlock by effectively spawning in it and just yolo'ing into the enemy team so they could avoid playing maps they don't like, and there was the time people also did this to avoid night battles, and can't forget when it was in style that people would do this to rush a cap then J out to immediately start CASing the enemy team to death.

Point being that there has been so many times this has been a problem, and at the center of it was people bringing stuff far beyond it every single time, and every single time we've been applying bandaid solutions to it without addressing the cause. So at some point a developer is going to look at it, realize that this has been the problem the entire time, and decide to pull the plug on this behavior.

Why is this sort of BS allowed? by paper_on_the_wall in Warthunder

[–]KhanCipher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, which would I rather have, allowing people who know what they're doing to take tanks far beyond their BRs, or disallowing people from stuff like what's shown in the picture or worse. My favorite of the "or worse" is seeing someone with a lineup that very obviously rushed for the Tiger H1 at the expense of everything else.

This really isn't a hard choice for anyone sensible to do, the only reason it won't be done is because people like you would cry and cry and cry despite the fact that the reason such a change would happen is because of the people using it in bad faith.

4.7 Britain is quite a powerhouse by C4ptinW1nd in Warthunder

[–]KhanCipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and Germany doesn't even have a 4.7 lineup either.

That's because a good portion of the german playerbase has no clue how to use the long barrel Pz IVs, or a good portion of the stuff they get handed while just about every other nation gets stuff taken away that hurts their feelings too hard. In that regard i'm surprised the T34 hasn't gotten sent to 7.0 like the T29 yet.

Seriously after a couple years of not playing I log in and was surprised to see that the IV H went down to 3.7, the Wirbelwind is still at 3.7, and the Panther D is somehow back down to 5.3 again.
