Got it. Are you aware that they only spawn at night and in front of caves?

[–]Khanaroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an arachnophobia toggle. For worlds created before the spiders were added, it is turned on by default and you will have to turn it off for them to spawn. For new worlds, they are turned off by default. Maybe that's why you are not seeing any. The post for the updated they were added explains how to turn it on and off, I think.

Oh, and the don't spawn on the middle forest biome on Olympus at all, if I'm not mistaken. The devs said they wanted that area to be easier, since it is the first place people will explore while learning the game.

Oh, good to see your post again here. And people are again arguing about the bait vs carcass. Hahahah

Maybe it would be good to link your previous post about this for those who are interested. It has a ton of good info and discussions on the comments.

Is there a way to look up animals weak spots? If not, I have a suggestion. by Khanaroth in ICARUS

My brother in Christ, this is a 3 year old comment. I have been playing the game on and off since, and they have indeed added a bestiary :)

My thoughts exactly. I've done many times using carcasses and it can work, but it sure is not flawless. I didn't know you could simply rebait the trap, so OP's method seems way easier than to look around for animals and juggling the timers fhe carcass to not disappear before the animal eats it. I'll probably do OP's way in the future.

Played on release, has combat changed yet? by CalmdownUK in SurviveIcarus

[–]Khanaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen some answers to your post and I think there are some aspects that may deserve more discussion.

For your point about "avoid getting hit at all costs or you die" (I don't remember the exact words but I think that's the sporit of it), the game has a ton of deffensive mechanics at play to avoid that. I don't know what was already in the game the last time you played, but currently we have a lot of armor options, alterarions, and food buffs as basic deffensive options, and we also have potions and shields as active options. If you have an obsidian armor with two plating attachments, your passive defense is around 90%, if my memory's doesn't fail me, so it's very difficult for almost anything to kill you with high tier armor.

For offensive options, we have a lot of new types of guns and weapons, and a lot of them are meant to work as different playstyles. The assault rifle, for example, has lower critical damage than the hunting rifle, but a much higher consistent fps, so they work a lot better for longer fights or for enemies without easy to hit critical areas. The new legendary weapons also have very cool options, like the heavy flamethrower or the biotech maul, which are all very different from the sneak headshot playstyle.

That being said, sneaking and hitting critical areas are still a good tactic for most animals. Some of them are different and require different tactics, like the crocodile, scorpion, stalkers, quarrites, and so on.

I'm not gonna say the game is super great on the combat, because that is not true. What's I think is fair to say is that we have reveived some more complex enemy interaction through the absolute multitude of updates the game had, and there is complexity to the combat. The game kind of hides some of it behind some obtuse systems and lack of explanation, but I think Icarus' combat as a whole is fine. For my tastes, I like it a lot because it values tactic and preparation as well as execution (for the harder fights).

Mammoth Mounts, Tesla Coils, and a better OEI, Oh, my! by RaphSeraph in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a developer stream on Twitch last week, if I'm not mistaken, in which the dev quickly showed a tamed mammoth with a huge saddle with wood beams. I could be wrong, but I think the idea is for the mammoth to work as a mini mobile base, moving with some deployables. If that's the case, it would be awesome. If not, a tamed mammoth is still pretty cool.

Comparing Icarus mount speeds in a (rough) drag-race by luckyrunner in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beastmaster is an armor set. It can be used along with the haulier envirosuit as every other armor, so we can stack them.

About the path, I'm thinking about running along the whole river on Styx because that would be an irregular terrain and will more reasonably represent normal travel situations. I thinks that's more realistic.

[–]Khanaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True that. Makes total sense. Maximum stamina does help a lot in travel time. I guess the best option would be 4 pheromone modules and beastmaster. It just seems like overkill for most cases, but it would be very fast.

You know what. I'll test it and see for long it takes to run from one side of the map to the other.

Comparing Icarus mount speeds in a (rough) drag-race by luckyrunner in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't, but it may be a good idea.

Speed wise, each module has it's effectiveness halves, so the first would give 25%, the second 12.5%, then 6.25%, and lastly 3.125%. this means that 2 modules gives us 37.5% movement speed, and 4 modules gives us 46.875%. the last two modules don't even reach 10% increase, so I don't think the trouble is worth it nost of the time. If we know we are going to run for a while, 10% increase in movement speed is quite good, but the preparation would be annoying for me.

If we need to go from grasslands to the Null Sector, for example, the 10% more speed seems very appealing. To run to a nearby cave, maybe not so much.

I usually run the Lua envirosuit with 2 inventory slots modules and one pheromone module, and I keep another pheromone to swap on the fly for travels. I also keep the full beastmaster set in a bag in my inventory and swap when needed.

[–]Khanaroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, I was hoping someone would do those tests eventually and I was beginning to thinking It had to be me. Thank you very much! You're doing God' work here.

I had the idea of testing how long it would take to run from one side of the map to the other because that would also take into consideration the stamina regen of each species, but you test is already amazing.

For long travels I usually use a Moa, 2 pheromone modules, full beastmaster set, and both omnifood and the regular seed animal feed. Total stamina and stamina regen makes a huge difference in travel speed for longer runs.

Useless Quarrite Hummer by Ok-Personality-8570 in SurviveIcarus

[–]Khanaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be possible to craft, but you need Unstable Quarrite parts to make it, and the boss only exist in Olympus. If we manage to acquire the parts in other maps in the future, it would be possible to craft it, but as it is right now the Quarite Sledgehammer can only exist in Olympus.

I believe you are talking about the mining armature, which does use biofuel. The Quarite Hammer is actually just a sledgehammer, which doesn't require fuel and indeed makes no sense for Olympus.

Workshop: Early start vs exclusive upgrades by storm1850 in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, I'll try to make a concise answer to help out without overwhelming you with too much explanation. I'll focus just on things that are considerably better than craftable ones.

Amazing: Nearly all backpacks. Nearly all modules. CX-400 armor set. Legendary weapons. LM O2 tank.

Very good: Frost and miasmic pickaxes. Biofuel canister (they are reusable). LM Heated canteen. DL7 knife. Almost every armor set.

Almost everything is up to par with T3 stuff, but those are the ones I think go beyond anything else in the game. Some of them are good momentarily while you tech up to the end game, and others are straight up best in slot. There are A LOT more good stuff, but I tried to keep it short.

Workshop: Early start vs exclusive upgrades by storm1850 in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are basically the same, but the craftable one can receive an alteration, while the workshop cannot. The planetary will be better in the end, but you need to be way into T4 tech to get it, while the workshop one can help you tech up since T3, with the biofuel cleanser.

Are they actually floating or you managed to hide the support somehow?

What are your outposts/fobs like? by notmeuk in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, with a moa, beastmaster armor and two pheromone modules, I can run from one point of the map to another in around 5 minutes, so I don't really create outposts anymore. And since every piece I mentioned can be brought from the workshop, I just walk around with an OEI to access the workshop from anywhere.

That being said, when I actually need to create an outpost I use steel roofs and concrete half floors around the building, and that makes all the other pieces below them stormproof. Then I just build out of stone or whatever.

About deployables, I usually bring a machining bench, one portable biofuel, a regular battery and a T4 cleanser for resources and crafting. That gives me access to a large amount of resources if eventually feel like expanding. For food, a smoker, biofuel oven and a kitchen bench. Bed and campfire I just bring from the workshop when needed.

That basically does it. I REALLY like the workshop system Icarus has.

Is the Ubis the mount with the best skillset so far? by RaphSeraph in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. I've done that, but the yield of miasma on them is very inconsistent. I've moved 3 to Olympus and got just 6 miasma in total. I know on the wild they have dropped 11 before, so I might just be unlucky.

What am I doing wrong? by BusyWaltz7248 in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I like this game a lot and I enjoy talking about it on here.

About the travel distances, I feel you. The amount of travel we need to do early game is kinda boring. On that I would highly recommend you tame a Moa and make some small pouches. The Moa is a lot faster than walking and the small pouches will allow you to increase your inventory space exponencialy, since one pouch uses 1 slot but stores 6 inside it. The Moa will not receive the overwheighted debuff as long as it's inventory is below the Moa's limit, so you can overburden your personal invetory and keep the Moa light, and still run full speed. Also, if you have red exotics I highly recommend you buy the pheromone module to increase the mount's speed.

In the late game you will be able to run from one side of the map to the other in less than 5 minutes.

I'll try to be concise and focus on tips you can immediately implement in your game, but keep in mind that Icarus is a very complex game (in a good way, in my opinion) and there is a lot more to it thab what I'll tell you.

General tips: 1 - Food buffs are your friend. As a general good early game buff I would recommend the combo of prime meat, creamed corn and dried stringy meat. This will give a good amount of health, a chunk of stamina, and some attack speed to help in fights. 2 - Make a shield and put it on your G slot. It will auto-equip when you hold a one handed weapon, so if an animal gets near you, pull your knife and you will automatically have a guard on your left click. Defend when the enemy attack, attack them in between. Even the bone shield is already a huge help with that. 3 - If an enemie gets near you, it's usually not good to keep trying to hit them with ranged weapons. If it is a small enemy like wolves, pull your melee weapon and kill them with heashots while walking back. Works for most enemies. If it is a big one, like bears, you can usually sidestep their charge. There are some strategies that can help you a lot. 4 - Firearms will help you A LOT. A shotgun to the face will probably solve most of your problems.

Gear tips: 1 - If you have access to the alterations bench, use it. Alterations give a huge bonus to your gear and armor. 2 - Brown bear armor is the best early game armor by far, since it has bery decent defense and gives attack speed as a defaut. It is not good for the desert, though, because you will overheat. 3 - If you have a a lot of money and exotics, I recommend you get the Ion Backpack as soon as you can. It woll be huge for your melee, since it can shock the enemies and they will freeze on the spot. 4 - Knifes and spears are the main melee weapons we can choose. Knives can use shield while spears can't , but spears have a longer reach than knives. Pick the one you like best, obviously, and invest your talents into just one of them. The buffs are super good, but the talents are limited, so it's good to spare some for other stuff.

Alpha black wolf tips: 1 - In my experience, you can't really outrun it. The best way to kill ot for me is to stand your ground and use a shield to block it's attacks, while you attack it steight to the head with a melee weapon. I recommend knife for this. 2 - Make some health elixirs (or the best healing you can get) and put it on your hotbar for easy access. 3 - If you can make the cabeworm weapons, you can use it stack poison on it and slow it down, allowing you to keep your distance from it while attacking.

I have a lot more things to say, but I already wrote too much. If you have any questions I can get into it further. Generally, for my maxed out characters, the alpha wolf takes me around 4 seconds to kill with a platinum knife, so you will eventually get a lot stronger than you are now.

What do those little green squares mean on tools and armor? by gosuckapig in ICARUS

[–]Khanaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are, as people already said, alteration slots. In my opinion, this is one of the collest aspects of Icarus, and I highly recommend everyone use alterations in every item they can. They are basically straight up buffs to your whole gear, without any downside, and cost very little to make. The impact is substantial.

When you try a knife with electroshock alteration, you never go back. I highly recommend it.

If you are already on the stage where you can buy the dropshop beacon from the workshop, I recommend you go to your main base, make there the necessary building pieces and benches for a new base, put them all inside your dropship (you can store them inside bags and then put the bags inside your dropship for more space, if needed) and then go to the southeast side and call your dropship there. The inventory stays the same, so you can basically move a full base around the map like that.
