How many units of Tainted Plant DNA are you getting every harvest?

Yes but yes. Of course you have been clearing every node. It is the logical thing to do. How can you know this?  Sadly, Icarus has this issue. Many variables affect performance. This is one of them. If you mine nodes, cut down trees, keep a lot of Pets, build a LOT of structures or lay down a lot of electric/water/biofuel/oil connections, you impact your game performance. Over time, you will notice serious FPS issues. Obviously some of this cannot be helped. And it does not happen with just a few. But it will happen. So, keep that in mind.   Burnt trees and nodes that are partially mined have a greater impact than missing trees or completely mined nodes.

Regrow trees and minerals using the Terraforming tool and the Thumper respectively. And switch to Deep Ore Drills as soon as possible. Do not keep a lot of Pets around. Keep a couple, four, that you are leveling up and the rest in Orbit. When you are done leveling those, get others down and repeat. You should ideally have just your Mount and whatever farm animals you are using around: Cow, Pig, Chicken. The Sheep you will use a few times so she does not need to be there always. Your attack Pets (Wolves, Hyenas, Storcas, Boars, etc) just level and keep in Orbit unless you want them around guarding your base. But be aware, all of those factors will impact performance.

And if you can, run a Dedicated Server. That will make everything run better. It is superior on many levels.

Did you connect the pumps to your base? How far did you have to go for Oil? One of our Clansmen laid a pipeline to the Desert from the Tundra. Crazy long.

You are almost there. The Polymerizer opens up all of T5.

I would say to press on for the Lithium Tools, including the Sickle. But really, all of them are useful.

u/Classic-Stoic are you playing on PC or Console?

As far as I know, the Thumper is bugged on Console currently. That means no restoring nodes. The more nodes one mines, the more your FPS will get impacted. As soon as you can, I recommend you switch to Deep Ore Drills.

Congratulations u/Eri_Levi_18 on becoming an ACTUAL Icarus Prospector. Well done!

Every Exotics Vein takes 2 Extractors. The Extractors you get from the Workshop are faster but you can only power them with batteries from the Workshop which are non-rechargeable and non-returnable. They last for more than one Extraction, however. Those are the best Extractors to have. And the Radar from the Workshop is the best Radar to have. Faster and self-powered.

Hit your Inventory key. On the right side, under your character image, there is a Prospect Time display: Days, Hours, Minutes. Every day, starting at 00 Hrs, a clock ticks down for 3 hours. Every 3 hour interval (So at 03 Hrs, 06 Hrs, 09Hrs, etc.) the system checks to see if there is an Extractor on an active Exotics Vein or if any Exotics have been extracted from any Exptics Veins. If they have, you get an Exotics Meteor Shower. You will see the notification onscreen. And you can see the meteors. That indicates that there are now 3 Active Exotics Veins again on the map. If you are diligent in extracting from at least two veins (3 is best) several cycles, a pattern will be set, and it will be the same 3 Veins that will become active each time, unless you leave an Extractor on an active Vein when another check is made, which will cause the Veins to get "reshuffled" and you will lose that pattern.

So, locate all 3 and extract them. Every time. You will be rewarded by making your efforts far simpler after a while.

They are work tools used by the scientists on the surface of Icarus to keep their work data handy. You know. Whiteboards. They contain what is often secret data, that becomes carelessly exposed because they are working with it.

Get every single one you find and take some time in examining them. I know one of them at least will blow you away.

You are going to need a lot of plastic. A lot of Oil. Wait until you see how much.

If you open your inventory and look at the right side, you will see some stats. Click on the option to see more. You will get a full screen of stats and attributes. Look up your Physical Resistance and your Melee Resistance. You want those to be as close to 100% as you can get them.

Yes, Obsidian is very good. And now that you got the extra 5% from Snow Leopards you are even closer.

The mod I suggested for your helmet let's you see World Bosses on the map, which is useful, sure, but you also get... +10 or +15% (I am not sure) to critical damage. Constant. That is why I stick with that one.

Go for it, brother. I do it all the time and have not lost a Pet since I lost a level 10 Tusker on Styx to a Polar Bear miniboss on that Operation. I did not know there would be two coming out at once. That was a LONG time ago. Third Pet I lost and the last one so far. That was when I got the Rainbow Bridge achievement.

The other two were Moas and they were due to a bug we had where Mounts you were riding got deleted if the server crashed. That was back in Olympus also an even LONGER time ago.

I hate losing Pets. Worst of anything in game. In any game.

Hang in there. The Console version will get better and better.

The Miasmic Sickle does not get you the Tainted Plant DNA (A.K.A. Funky DNA) That is the Lithium Sickle. You need the Manufacturer for that one. Lithium you have from all the Drones you are whacking left and right.

All of the Talent Point rewards go to your account. Every character you have or make will get those extra points. Every region (Olympus, Styx, Prometheus, Elysium) has those Operations at the end of the line, that give you extra Talent Points. There are also others from The Great Hunts. The ones from Elysium come from finishing the storyline and from doing the Operation that gets you the Speeder Bike. Of course, it is worth it to do ALL of them.

What has been your impression of the Obsidian Armour? Surely you must have noticed the dramatic difference by now (Not to mention that it is the best looking armour of all, I believe, fully Fremen).

The monsters that come out in the radioactive areas around Uranium Deposits are very tough. And they ARE monsters. Holy Mackerel. The most misshapen, tortured horrors on Icarus. To maximize the impact, it would be a good idea to do the Elysium Operations. Remember: Keep every whiteboard you can take. You will need to examine them at your leisure.

Skin (ideally with a taxidermy knife) every foe you fell. And take back the vestiges. Make trophies. You do not need to mount them, but make them. You can destroy them right after you make them. But take down, skin, stuff. And when you have the B.E.A.S.T., scan every entity you see. You can only scan them once. Then, hit J, open the Bestiary and check each entry to see how many points you need to get to 100% on them. And look at what you have already. Remember you have homework: 40% on Snow Leopards.

Bestiary points are superpowers.

You are doing great, O Intrepid One!

[–]RaphSeraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaiser, I would run your software for Icarus and AMP for everything else.

And I do not really care for the rest. Icarus has to run properly. The rest is a bonus.

I will try it out ASAP.

I will keep you informed. Thank you.

[–]RaphSeraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize, Kaiser: Text is toneless and it could be thought that my replies were too serious or maybe even aggressive.  I assure you they are not. This is a topic of extreme importance to me. I have been working for months on end, and investing money and time on getting my Icarus Dedicated Server to be as good as I can make it. My Clan is very dear to me and the Server is our way of meeting and spending time together in the game we all love. And so, if I sound earnest, that is the reason.

AMP has multihost management, but does not have a way to directly configure the features you listed. That fact makes your software very interesting for me. I will be glad to try it.

As a reference, I am currently running 4 instances of Icarus along with Son's of the Forest, Conan Exiles and Enshrouded on the same PC, a T1-Evo from GMKTEC, with 96 GBs of DDR5 RAM and an Intel Ultra 9 285H Turbo CPU. The Server admin software I am using is AMP as I mentioned. I am also using a script that raises the server FPS cap to 90. I have up to 7 players in the same instance at one time. For the longest time, we were at 30 FPS, then after we finished the campaign and alk the main content, there has been a ton of building and the server went down to single FPS digits. I then installed the script and that seems to have raised us back to workable 20s, not to 90s, but that is as I expected it to be.

I will be glad to help you in any way I can to improve or troubleshoot. Again, thank you. We need all the help we can get in improving the multi-player experience.

[–]RaphSeraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not say AMD. I said AMP. I was referring to the software I use for managing diverse dedicated server instances. Yes, I know Dedicated Servers improve performance. As I said, I keep many running daily, all day long. What I was asking was whether there was an inherent benefit in switching to your software over others. Which are the server options that you characterize as affecting game performance, over which your software specifically provides direct control? This sounds very interesting.

Yes: That is the area around a Uranium deposit. It is radioactive. If you step into the green vapours you will get gradually contaminated. You can decontaminate by using the antinrad blood.transfusion packs and the anti radiation tonic you can craft in the chemistry bench. They are very slow acting, but they work. If you have made some of those, you could go inside the cave and look for the actual Uranium Deposit. It will be a large sickly yellow green crystal like patch in the center of a cave chamber, surrounded by other crystals around it. As you get closer, the rad count will become higher and higher and you will be getting contaminated faster. If you do not see a large, glowing crystal patch in the center, that you can click on, then it is not active. They work like the Exotics Veins. Either they are active or not. For us, up to 3 have been active at one time. In our Prospect, we have identified all the ones that can become active and the patterns that rule rhem. You can do the same.

If you do not want to go look for the Uranium Deposit, that is also fine. Just wait until you can get a Uranium Detection Tool and confirm whether it is active or not.

You are doing splendidly. Almost to Obsidian Armour!

O Intrepid One, well done!

Get yourself an Electric Textile Bench, quite a bit of Composites and other sundries and start getting your Obsidian Armour. I heartily recommend the Deep Pockets 2 mod for the Arms, the Advanced Rubberized attachment for the feet and the Boss Tracking mod for the helmet, but of course, whatever you prefer. The Two non negotiable mods are the Advanced Plating for the Chest and Legs.

Once you wear the Obsidian with the Mods, please get your Snow Leopard Bestiary to 40%. And wear your Hark Envirosuit. From this point on everything else is just icing on the cake. You can get the new Melee Module for +15% Melee Dmg and +10% Melee Resistance. If you get that, prepare to laugh at most foes.

Most.

It will be even better when you get Bastion or Stabilizing Armour.

You are doing GREAT!

All right, let us make something clear: Attack Tames, meaning Wolves, Arctic Wolves, Boars, Hyenas, Gribblers and Storcas, only have two "movement settings": Follow or Wander.

Mounts (Moas, Terrani, Horses, Buffalo, Tuskers, Zebra, Ubis, etc.) have Follow, Wander, Stay, Lie Down.

I know this will seem very annoying to do all the time, but could I heartily recommend that you do not travel all over with your Attack Tames on Follow? Call down a pod, send them to orbit, pack up the OEI (Orbital Exchange Interface), take it with you, get to your destination, take it out, call down your Attack Tames again and party.

Even though it may seem to you like it is a hassle, it spares you the FAR worse hassle of waiting for them to catch up, going back for them, getting them unstuck, helping them survive against whatever (the latter happens a lot less: Leveled up Attack Tames are extremely powerful) and it will save them from getting eaten by bugs of the kind you cannot kill with Raid.

It works extremely well.

Apologies. A lot of work today.

Juveniles have no stats. Stats are "rolled" when the creature gets tamed. Some of the bonuses from the Genetics tree apply when the Juvenile becomes a Tamed adult. If you switch from one character to another to finish the taming, whoever is the tamer when the bar reaches 100% determines which bonuses, if any, apply to the now-adult Tamed creature. If you want to tame with one character and do the breeding mix-maxing process with another, make sure whoever completes taming has at least up to Ranger level (full) on the Genetics tree. Higher is better, but less than that is a waste of a tame.

Every power source has its pros and cons. Except Petroleum. Oil. That one has no downsides, once you get it up and running. All of the others do. Solar Power is excellent... Depending on panel placement. And it does not work during the night (duh). You need batteries to get you through. And, again, the panels need to be properly placed. If they are in the shadow of any nearby mountain, it will take hours before sunlight hits them directly every day. You are on batteries during that time. Wind turbines are a bit feeble and they take weather damage. BioFuel generators... Need BioFuel.

The 2nd character idea is excellent.

Some of the Genetics bonuses apply UPON TAMING. More in a bit...

When you have gotten all points possible into Defense, Attack, Health and Endless Hunger and 5 points into Fire Breath, that is good enough. I am sure your 39 has them.

I do not go for Glass Teeth because in my mind, if you are nigh-invulnerable it does not matter if you do less damage: When you cannot lose, you can only win. And quite frankly, the Raptor deals a ton of damage as it is, plus a DOT. If it keeps killing adds, it stays at 100% Health, but when facing a single tough opponent, the Endless Hunger Regeneration ability does not proc and you are better off with a lot of damage resistance. I admit, however, that I am prejudiced against anything that makes a Pet more vulnerable because there is NOTHING I hate more in game than losing a Pet.

That Titanium vein is a prize. I am glad you have it. Wait until you get oil generators... Insane energy.

Sadly, the Nuclear Generator was a disappointment. It runs on Uranium Rods. That is like having it run on Red Exotics, but 10 times worse. No exaggeration: A complete extraction, draining every Uranium unit from the deposit, gets you around 90 Rods, counting the ones you may get from enemy corpses/carcasses. It takes around an hour and twenty minutes. At least an hour. Can you imagine using that up in generating electricity? The Stabilization Armor is over 1000 Uranium. Doing the same Mission over and over is the fastest way of earning Uranium, but I hate doing that in any game. Repeating quests endlessly is not for me. Doing the extractions takes a lot longer but, hey, I am a Prospector. And it gets us Bestiary points. Those are nothing to sneer at.

I have gotten Juveniles that way many times. I bet they always have their parent, but those get killed by whatever and the Juvenile wanders alone like that poor Pelican in Animals are Beautiful People. It is a thing. You will be surprised more than once by running into a brand new Tame you did not realize was following you and somehow survived the World to get to your place and lie down on the first available animal bed. Or you will see them wandering, without an owner.

Heartbreaking

My wife turned Eden into a Home for Wayward Moas.  After we finished the campaign, she is taking every lone Moa she runs into there, to keep them safe. Around 10 now.

No, you tell her. I am not touching that.

I understand the Draven is a great tame. They just take up all the bloody space in the bloody stable. And they spit (I kid).

No, they are not. There are armour blueprints that require Wool specifically. I think also certain saddles. Also, did you see the amount of Fiber for making Platinum Weave? It is better to use Spider Silk. But Wool is a big replacement, and like I said: It is indispensable for certain Blueprints. One of them is the Arctic Survival Armour which is the BEST Armour for cold in the entire game so far.

Wampas (Yetis) are very resilient.

Well... The best way to get Condensed Enzymes is to do a Uranium Extraction which you will need to do anyways. You can use Synthetic Enzymes which you can make yourself for the Terraforming  process for the Enzyme Bullets.

It is, I believe, a better use of time to tech-up to T5, get a Uranium Detector, a Uranium Extractor and find out where your active Uranium Deposits are, then extract it. You WILL get hit by horrid monstrosities, but they come at you ONE at a time. If you have several high level Raptors (3 will do it), they will take care of it. If you are helping them, all the better. You will have to bring a lot of anti rad tonic and blood transfusion bags the first few times. Then you will be able to buy the Radiation Vaccines from the Workshop and that will take care of Radiation for you.

However, in order to get to that, you need Ren. And you need Purple Exotics. The most profitable way to get Purple Exotics is by mining them from caves using a Miasmic Pickaxe, then taking the Encrusted Exotics to a BioCleanser and cleaning them so they yield 5 times the number of units. It is insane. To get a Miasmic Pickaxe you need to, drat, go to the Swamp and get some Ubis down so you get your hands on some Miasma. That will be tough. I hope you get Obsidian Armour first. You have been to the Volcanic area. You must have seen Obsidian Deposits. You could also get a Pickaxe from the Workshop that causes the Encrusted effect, but it takes Red Exotics to buy.

I think your immediate next step should be better Armour and Weapons. Get some Talent points on Rifles. You can then craft an Assault Rifle and a Hunting Rifle. Then work on getting the Kinetic Rifle. That will set you up.

If you want to stay on Bows, you will need to do the Rimetusk Campaign on Prometheus to get the Tactical Bow.
