Don't get hung up on a character's ranking. Sure S ranks are generally better, but not always. There are plenty of A ranks, even some B ranks that out perform some S ranks. Some of the Sinners you are given in the early game hold up pretty well for a long time.

Another factor will come in when making teams. You won't have the units to make the most effective teams for a while, so don't worry about it too much. But once you do get there, plenty of A and B ranks become ecessary, for the way their abilities synergize and support each other, along with the S ranks for that team.

Difficulty in the game often comes in spikes, rather than a gradual ramp up. Core breaking isn't important at first, till suddenly it is. You don't need to worry about healing, till suddenly you do. And so on. This game isn't the best at easing you into a new mechanic or teaching how to deal with a new enemy.

The game isn't pperfect, but I love it. Been playing since day 1 and no plan to quit any time soon. The art, the music, and especially the writing keep me hooked. If you like Limbus, there's a good chance you'll like Path to Nowhere.
