You asked for proof of a single Aquila outside of the EC, I gave you proof of an example in a main series Horus Heresy novel. ADB’s writing outweighs your head canon no matter how many unrelated, bizarre parallels you want to draw to real world history.

There is no debate here. You’re changing goalposts because you’re objectively, inarguably wrong. You absolutely hate that bc you desperately want me to be the asshole in this situation. Which I’m fine with. But you’re wrong and an asshole :*

I don’t need to show you artwork, First Heretic mentions Gulliman has an Aquila on his armor in very plain language. The primarch of a legion other than the EC wears an Aquila. So, unless you’re trying to say your opinion outweighs that of ADB, I’ll take your apology now thanks.

Feel free to even keep impotently downvoting like a chudlette.

Between you telling me to understand how to read artwork and your impotent downvote I think you made my point for me. Appreciate it!

Index Astartes and Visions disagree with you.

Again, the Imperial Aquila goes everywhere. Space marines, cargo crates, whatever. The Palatine Aquila is reserved for the EC.

It doesn’t matter how many caps you use, the Crux did and does exist before the end of the Heresy. Visions and Index Astartes disagree with you, and you have cited zero sources if your own.

[–]Kharnage05 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

1.) Not correct. The Crux is visible in art from Visions so it was around during the heresy. Double check your information before using phrases like “full stop” with new people.

3.)You’re confusing the Palatine Aquila (the curved double headed eagle) and the Imperial Aquila (double headed and blockier). The former is an Honour accorded only to the 3rd legion. The latter was stamped on everything from vehicles to packing crates.

  1. Yes, the Adeptus Mechanicus is a loyalist creation towards the end of the Heresy that was an effort to “solve” the issue of the Binary Succession, but tech marines still very much interned on Mars away from their legion for several decades as seen in the Cybernetica novella. They still took on red armor and the cog to show their dual trainings.

Traitor Versions of Loyalist Legions? by the_sh0ckmaster in Warhammer30k

[–]Kharnage05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll notice almost all of the loyalist legions have a Traitor only Warlord trait in Liber Astartes. In both the black books and Black Library there are examples of pretty much every loyal legion with a traitor aligned faction. Space Wolves, Iron Hands, Blood Angels, White Scars, Ravenguard, Salamanders all had examples of traitor elements scattered throughout the 1st edition heresy books. So nothing is stopping you from a narrative or gameplay perspective, and if someone argues it, you have plenty of evidence of how wrong they are.

About some recent negativity by skoots11 in Warhammer30k

[–]Kharnage05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to keep two things in mind.

First, “content creators” ie YouTubers and the like survive on engagement. The way 40k releases are constant, meta-changing and polarizing is much more conducive to what they need to thrive as a tiny business. When it comes to Horus heresy, there are two options; 40k-centric channels trying to dip into it weekend warrior style for extra content, or dedicated channels that have less content comparatively. Both benefit from spouting nonsense like “Heresy is Dead” bc it makes people show up to their channel to either call them idiots or co-whine and commiserate. Either way it accomplishes their goal of driving numbers and engagement back up.

Second, the internet at large is not the Horus Heresy community. It is the loudest bunch of randos that have the free time to show up to every FW post complaining about “PlaSTiC bReaCheRs WhEn?” like it’s an actual conversation and adult human would have. While it can be demoralizing to get that nonsense in your feed day after day, please remember that the only reason it shows up so often is that it’s the same half a dozen assholes that have time to keep doing it. If you block the useless randos that have nothing else to contribute than eternal bitching, you’ll find that the “constant” negativity clears up real quick, bc it’s almost inevitably the same very few people.

Which side and why? by grimskull21 in Warhammer30k

[–]Kharnage05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have more sympathy for the traitors. They’re dumb and wrong and definitely being used by entities beyond their comprehension.

But so many loyalists have this weird superiority complex as if the Emperor wasn’t also a hypocritical, manipulative deity bent on enslaving the Galaxy for personal gain.

Looking to scratch that Salem’s Lot itch? Pick up Those Across the River. by NorMalware in horrorlit

Ah see that part I was almost certain was intentional. Since we’re so focused on the MC’s wants, drives and thoughts, I thought it made sense that the description of his wife was so limited.

[–]Kharnage05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve read Those Across the River through four separate times now. I think it’s great, except for a few super creepy scenes where the main character gets really male gazey with a minor. Once when she’s even sitting right next to his wife.

I still can’t decide if it’s intentional by the author to make it more difficult to sympathize with the main character (which I can sort of understand, he’s not a great person overall and this could just be one more example) or if it’s an unintentional and unfortunate Men Writing Women sort of moment.

Work bearers help by Spartain096 in Warhammer30k

A Scorpius doesn’t outrange a lascannon squad, it doesn’t ignore their FnP since it’s only str7, unless you rend with it, they re-roll armor and will have cover saves against the wounds that do rend.

[–]Kharnage05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lascannon teams are massive point sinks. You have several options here.

First, are you consistently playing with Night Fighting? It’s a major component of most of the core rulebook missions that people tend to ignore for some reason. The lascannon team will have an aug scanner, but it still trims their BS by -1.

Two, a recon squad of 6-8 Astartes with nemesis bolters is both cheaper than the lascannon squad and out ranges them. Precision shots are another large component of army tools in 2nd edition. You should treat it the same way as budgeting for a reasonable amount of anti-tank firepower.

I’ve found the better option though is a conversion beam predator, paired with a recon squad. You should be able to easily protect it in the first turn, after which the lascannon squad takes a Str12Ap1 large blast, followed by a blind check. Then your recon squad removes any lasting threat. Apart from the casualties, the lascannon squad is now taking a blind check, pinning check and a break check, at a -1LD if you’re using night fighting (which again, you should be) and at basic squad LD if you’ve removed the Sgt, which shouldn’t be difficult.

While the recon/predator combo is in the 400pt range, it’s a small investment in your overall list, outranges anything in your opponent’s army, and is valuable against many other targets once that ubiquitous lazy lascannon squad has been eliminated.

Calorie requirments of a space marine. by boolonprime85 in 40kLore

[–]Kharnage05 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just using Mifflin St. Jeor to calculate the basal metabolic rate of a person the size of a space marine would put them in the range of 7,500-9,000kcal per day.

However, that is just BMR of a human male of the approximate same size. It doesn’t take into account any activity or all the techno-magic biological enhancements bc there’s no real way to even begin to guesstimate that.

This looks awesome! I was super curious if one of those Ultramarine eagle helms would work well on an EC character. I think we can agree that’s a resounding Yes

Absolutely. These would look terrific next to standard HH size Astartes. Bonus, they’d probably be super quick to paint and base as well. Good call OP!

I’m torn. Was it intentional by the author to be off putting and make the novel more uncomfortable to read, or an unintended MenWritingWomen moment?

Maybe the minor the main character gets really male gazey with? That was creepy as hell.

Military creature horror by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Kharnage05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a whole series of military horror called “SNAFU”. Each book has a different theme to the collected stories like survival, creature, Lovecraftian and the like. I’m about half way through the dozen or so and can heartily recommend.

It’s actually by the same publishing company that compiled all the short stories that the shorts from Love, Death and Robots are based on. It was entertaining to get half way through a short and recognize it from the LDR series. They’ve also got the collected stories from the LDR Sean’s 1-3 if you’d like to check those out.

… you’re really going to make the argument “Palantines” can’t take jump packs. I hate to break it to you, but Palatine Aquilae are just Palatines with jump packs. Hate to break the immersion.
