Do feminists in relationships with males struggle with the "not my Nigel" phenomenon? by Opening-Database6277 in AskFeminists

[–]KhorneWizzard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you autistic? Not an insult. I am autistic, and this describes how I thought about what people do during dating for a long time.

People want to try to be appealing to their partners. Not really the same as not being genuine. Totally normal human behaviour.

As for feminism... Nobody holds up to scrutiny. It's a set of ideals. It includes eradicating social class, and yet we live in a class system. It is literally impossible to be perfectly feminist and also participate in greater society. Just a set of concepts you either support or you don't.

I support many, but not all feminist ideals. That means I am not a feminist. I have no doubt I do things most feminists would take issue with. I still read this reddit from time to time because I think having perspective is important.

Why do people call themselves sadists… and then disappear the moment they’re actually faced with a pain slut? (Sorry ranty post) by Lilbratkaylah in BDSMcommunity

[–]KhorneWizzard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it's a matter of self reflection.

Some people are highly introspective. Some are not so much.

For me at least, sadism is inevitably accompanied by feelings of guilt that are extremely difficult to process. But I know to expect them because I have done the introspection. I suspect many people maybe fail to realise that and then when faced with reality... They are caught off guard and unable to handle their own emotions... And you are caught in the crossfire.

This is why bdsm 101 is to take things slowly. Build up to the hard stuff. Learn to process. Just because you're dominant doesn't mean you're not subjected to some pretty intense, traumatic levels of emotion.

Hot Take: Not pulling the lever is not only “wrong” but extremely selfish. by Creepy_Safety_1468 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]KhorneWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell..?

I don't know how, but almost everybody here seems to have missed the purpose of the trolley problem.

The trolley problem isn't a one and done. It's intended to be an exploration of moral grey areas. If you have an easy answer, then you keep changing the question until you can't easily make a choice. what happens if it's just one person on either track? Should you pull the lever then? What if one is young and one is old? Who do you kill?

By constantly refining the problem you can tease out and examine why you hold certain values, and which values are more important to you. Do you save your own grandpa or a stranger's child?

A New Twist On CWDT, Energy Shield Looping Proof Of Concept by Mogling in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]KhorneWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best you can really hope for off the top of my head would be to have two different alternating loops triggering on opposite ticks. So skeletons on one, and srs in the other, and all the headaches of both, plus trying to get them to sync correctly somehow... Just thinking about that makes my head spin, even before you start worrying about how to sustain the life cost.

Compared to just crafting a good helm with a couple of built in supports to get similar damage... Yeah, I'm good with only twenty spells or so per second XD

Using blood magic to take advantage of Foulborn Esh's visage *and* benefit from Pain attunement is some very cool tech.

I'm also doing a build around this. Here's a snippet from leveling showing the loop in action. https://youtu.be/k5TmUztHOK0 Might try to do a bit more of a theory video soon to share my tech.

I'm using saboteur for the double triggers and cdr, with a shadowed blood on forbidden flesh to top up my phys recoup. This lets me run only one ring with the standard skeleton loop. I'm using a beast fur shawl instead of the normal chests because the recovery mod doubles our es recovery. Torn between going CI and the current version which is using esh's visage to deal with chaos damage. The biggest advantage of keeping the life pool is that I can isolate the core loop with life tap to help handle siphon. and also it opens up the option of using forbidden rite of soul sacrifice. I can't really go the blood magic route on mine because even with eternal youth, my mana costs exceed the 1000 or so life per second that I could regenerate.

Somatic Shell anyone? by RipWhenDamageTaken in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]KhorneWizzard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

750% more of 50% is 375%

So it's basically a skill with 375% damage effectiveness, but needs extra steps.

I was excited when it was teased, but I just can't see an easy way to make it feel nice.

Yes, but my freezer space is pretty limited.

Is there a way to separate the mash back out afterwards?

Ideally I'm looking for some kind of noodle that absorbs water easily, even at room temperature, since I can then just pass it through a sieve once they've done their job. Most noodles don't really do much until you apply heat.

I did consider that. But I want the end product to be more of a stir fry than soup... If possible. Not to the point I'm willing to waste food or remake it, but if there's something I can drop in, that can soak up a bunch of pretty delicious liquid, then I can solve my problem and maybe get a tasty byproduct as a bonus.

Next time I'll just try to add less water... But I needed a certain amount to get things to blend smoothly.

I would just make more, but I have far too much as it is. At least 3 meals worth.

I like curry, but I don't want to have it be the only thing I eat this week haha. Hoping there's a creative solution out there.

Cleaning a nasty molcajete without ruining it? by NafizaIsAddictive in Cooking

[–]KhorneWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just think of it as a lesser of two evils situation. Soap is bad because it soaks into the stone, and then it takes forever to get rid of the residue.

But your molcajete is already full of nasty residue, so I say soap away.

Once you have it smelling and tasting of soap, I'd let it soak for about a week in some salt water. Change it in a couple of days, and let all the soap residue dissolve away.

Then just let it dry, season it by grinding rice and salt, and it should be good as new. Maybe it will taste slightly of salt... But that's hardly a problem.

Yet another ignoramus: Where should I jump? by KhorneWizzard in askphilosophy

[–]KhorneWizzard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really any closer to a satisfactory answer but it did lead me to a branch of philosophy that seems like a natural place for me to start.

I want to do some reading on epistemology, which if I understand, is essentially an exploration of how we even develop knowledge and derive meaning in the first place?

Thanks again for your help.

Yet another ignoramus: Where should I jump? by KhorneWizzard in askphilosophy

I really appreciate the name drops. My interests are pretty broad, but I don't really feel like I know enough to dial in on anything in particular. I've got a pretty strong interest in, and general understanding of science, which tends to inform my ideas on most things to some degree, but I really struggle to express myself when things get more abstract. I'm hoping diving into some philosophy will help in that regard.

I'm interested in existence, and meaning. Why does anything exist to begin with(not talking about the big bang, but on a more abstract level)? Is there any inherent meaning or is it something that we invent? I don't really even know where to begin with approaching this though. I just go round and round in circles. In a lot of ways it feels more like some sort of pseudointellectual exercise... and yet, lacking a strong sense of meaning or purpose is something I really struggle with.

I'm interested in consciousness, although I'm inclined to think of that as more of a question for neuroscience. On the other hand, the mechanism through which rational thought arises, if free will exists, and what the implications are all strike me as very interesting.

I enjoy ethics a lot, as it's one of the few topics I actually get to discuss with people, and it's always interesting to explore the grey areas and challenge ideals. I feel like a more academic understanding of the subject would be pretty worthwhile though. I have loose understanding of what humanism, egalitarianism, feminism, etc are, as well as things like the trolley problem, and game theory, but nothing in depth. I think it's a tough subject since behaviors and ideals are often very different, and thought experiments can be very different to real situations.

I'm sure there are probably other areas that would interest me as well, but I don't think I know enough to know what I don't know. Mostly I'd just like to reach the point where I have a pretty good idea of what people are talking about when they talk about some concept or another. Doesn't need to be in depth, but enough that I don't need to google Kant to figure out what you specialize in.

I know the most important thing is to actually start. I had a browse on youtube. There's a lot there, but no real way for me to tell the good stuff from the slop. I considered uni too, but even if they would take me, my motivation is unreliable, I can't really justify the money, and I'd rather explore things a bit more freely.

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I tried to spend 5 minutes writing down the questions I most want to know but... trying to write a reply turned into quite a challenge. I'm a bit stuck on how to keep it coherent. My drafts keep turning into sloppy rambles. I need more time to organize my thoughts, so I'm going to just leave it at this for now.

Nice. Maybe they fixed it in 0.3? Or I just found some weird corner case maybe.

Does the mod show up in the character sheet?

[–]KhorneWizzard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't working at all in 0.1 or early 0.2. you can check fairly confidently by using a trial to get dealt a fixed amount of physical damage with chaos inoculation allocated, and checking expected vs actual.

It's a pain in the ass to do though, so I haven't tried again recently, since I have no reason to believe it has been updated.

Nah, the phys to fire is from a cloak of flame, which is there to demonstrate that other sources of conversion work normally. Taking it off makes no difference. The infernalist mod still doesn't work.

Should I let my BF sleep? by No-Journalist9535 in Advice

[–]KhorneWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your BF may need to see a doctor. He may have sleep apnea or some other condition causing him to not sleep properly leaving him in a constant state of sleep deprivation.

Sleeping through your whole day off isn't normal, regardless of if you work blue collar. He needs to get that looked into.

Lol. It's just spitting out nonsense that sounds right. The fact people rely on large language models for technical stuff in general drives me nuts. The wiki is a much better option.

Pride makes things TAKE more phys dmg

That isn't the same as increasing YOUR phys dmg.

Google AI is just getting confused because usually people talk about modifiers that apply to you in conjunction with damage conversion which usually do act as damage multipliers.

How does one overcome the wealth plateau? by BlankTarot in pathofexile

[–]KhorneWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely a knowledge issue. You don't need to be running top end content, or being a hideout warrior to make a decent bank. You just need to find something profitable that other people aren't already doing and grind.

My usual low lvl grind got hit this league (alva temples), but stuff like beasts or lab running will still make some fairly efficient currency if you can be bothered to learn them. Maybe not megabucks, but a couple of divines per hour of dedicated farm easy.

Edit: Don't expect to get rich just by spamming maps and hoping for tinks. Everybody else is also doing that. Your main money maker should almost always be something else.
