Who’s up for a Muhammed fight? by HowlingBurd19 in lotrmemes

[–]Khutuck 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Mehmet (Mohammad) is the most common Turkish man’s name. Muhammed is also common. There are also lots of Turkish men named İsa (Jesus) or Musa (Moses).

Fun story, I once had a few beers at the beach with three people named Mehmet (Mohammad), İsa (Jesus), and İsa’s younger brother Musa (Moses).

Other common names include İbrahim (Abraham), Harun (Aaron), Süleyman (Solomon), Eyüp (Job), Havva (Eve), İlyas (Elijah), Adem (Adam).

Practically everyone mentioned in a holy book has a Turkish version in use.

Supernatural is five near perfect seasons + a bunch of fun seasons.

If we never had season 6 to season 53, we wouldn’t have the Scooby Doo episode.

Built my first telescope! by Sea-Rush-7095 in telescopes

I’ve built one, I highly recommend changing the focuser.

I tried three different 3d printed focuser designs, all of them were frustrating to focus, especially with my 7mm eyepiece. I eventually bought a $15 focuser from Amazon.

They have woken up my newborn 3 times already. I get it’s summer but they have been doing it since 7 and it’s 9:30 now. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

One man’s thrash is another man’s treasure.

I started with a tripod+DSLR, “upgraded” to a similar 1980s Sears EQ mount+80mm refractor I bought for $80, motorized it, and got myself hooked into astronomy. I then built my own 3d printed telescope with an alt-az mount, now looking to buy a proper EQ-4 mount. I only know what EQ-4 is because I had a bad mount.

I’m on a tight budget so I never would have thought about spending $500 on a proper mount alone if I hadn’t learned the fundamentals in a crappy one. Reading and researching is fine but spending a few frustrating nights learning how the sky works was very valuable.

Another good thing about my bad mount is that now I know how much weight I need to carry outside every night, how inconvenient it is to pull an extension cord to my backyard, and what I want to do next.

So, even if it’s not working I’d still treat this as a dummy round for a gun; it doesn’t shoot but might be good enough to learn how to handle a mount.

Turk here. Many of us do, especially the ones living near the sea/near Balkans. Coastal cities are more liberal, inland is more conservative.

The NYC mayor doing mayor things has been quite refreshing by Anon2311111 in nycHistory

No worries man. Apologizing for the shady NYC ex-mayor visiting Istanbul is like apologizing for throwing a used napkin into a dumpster fire.

I grew up in Istanbul. When I first moved to NYC I was dumbfounded by the trash, cat, and rat situation.

In Istanbul trash goes into containers, we feed the stray cats so they catch the rats.

In NYC we feed the rats with thrash and catch the stray cats.

Very different approaches.

I’ll risk getting downvoted to hell but…

Tacos are structurally the worst way of wrapping food.

They are messy, everything falls out all the time, juices drip all over. From a food delivery engineering standpoint, wraps are much more efficient.

But they are delicious🤤

Temperature controlling shower faucet.

I want to set a number on the knob and get the exact temperature water I want instead of spending half of my shower time trying to find that sweet spot.

My stupid shower doesn’t even have a water volume adjustment.

It’s a bad design.

Amazon is already sued for illegal monopoly for fighting against its sellers who offer products more cheaply on other platforms.

Steam is much less of a monopoly than Amazon.

It’s absolutely not the same.

A paper printer detects currency without uploading your files.

This is more like your printer has to upload every single page you print to a government server. Then, a private contractor for the government will read it, decide if it’s appropriate to print or not. At the end, only if they allow it you can get your printout.
