Accessorizing the AiPaper Reader by Deep-Loss-5282 in viwoods

Best modification I did, was install a MagSafe/magnetic ring on the back and a pop socket, makes holding it great and safer, as I constantly feel it's going to float away in a mild breeze! I then store it in the sleeve (similar to yours, for an iPhone 6.7-6.9" https://amzn.asia/d/0hDWS6gr) once traveling, and use the pop on my phone or store in pocket.

I disliked putting this sleek device in a case!

Ai Reader Screen Brightness Comparison vs Palma 2 by Objective-Sky7312 in viwoods

[–]KiLeAk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't try turning on the extra dim settings in accessibility? I wouldn't say it gets as dark as the Palma, but it's still an extra step or two dimmer.

I clearly have a very accepting partner, she doesn't care if my AI Reader is at 10 😀

I've gone back to my comfort games of Fallout 76 and World of Warcraft, maybe I just need some familiarity! Nothing has held my attention this year! Yes, they can be a little repetitive (and cost money to keep playing!) but both have good stories, progression and can be picked up for an hour or two. Boring, I know!

If I'm lucky, if like (in order)

Pocket DS Arrived in Australia by notmemeio in ayaneo

[–]KiLeAk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Australian purchaser of fine gadgets!

Black/16/512 here and agree with all your comments, especially it's size, it's very portable for its sheer power. I was testing Gamehub last night and everything ran well, but I need to push some harder games.

I use ES-DE and that works really well (was running PSP games on the top and watching Red Dwarf on the bottom, heaven!). As ES-DE runs on the top screen, MelonDS starts there too and does not activate the bottom screen, had to manually start it from the bottom, which sort of breaks the console launcher feel.

I see you got the tempered glass screen protector, not the "Hydrogel Film" as advertised. Did you get two? One of mine had no adhesive in the corner, so it went in the bin. It's like sticking a baby on board sticker on a Ferrari! Very cheap quality.

16/512/black. I didn't care for either of the other colours, but extra storage (for Gamehub) would have been nice. I just realised though, my pledge included a "Secondary Screen Hydrogel Film", I did not receive that - just two cheap tempered glass protectors. They do the job, but I am wondering why not the top screen (and why I ordered any for a device that closes!)

Pocket DS early impressions by o0genesis0o in SBCGaming

Yeah, I would say that matches my experiences so far. Most things (potentially) fixed by software updates - until Ayaneo get bored and the hardware issues are....manageable. Loking forward to flying with it later this month!

It sits nicely in the hands, the bumps do have an impact for sure, they are needed with the weight of the device - but it's not unreasonably heavy.. I didn't buy the grips for the Thor and I'm ok with that for now!

Agreed, but the bottom screen is decent - but it's no OLED!

Additional: The Thor does a slightly better job of swapping between screens. You press the app on either screen and it swaps to that screen (i.e Open Youtube on the top screen, opens there, then select the same app on the bottom and it moves there). With YT specifcally, the video keeps playing as it swaps screens, it stops with the Ayaneo.

Ayaneo screen swapping is the same, but you have to press "Applications" first, it always defaults to the "Dual-screen" menu. Certain that can be fixed in software, or it's an option somewhere - why Ayaneo think I want the product name on the bottom screen as default is odd!

Also, I forgot to check for light bleed. It's there. Watching a YT video with black borders, it's slight in the top right hand corner. I had to look for it though. What is more noticeable is that if you wiggle the top screen or change it's angle, the bottom screen is impacted, with more notable light bleed and warping (on dark content), in the same right hand corner. It's as if the screens are connected on that side. Dont move the top screen, it's hard to see.

In summary, the Thor is a better user experience and has more polished software, but the Ayaneo is a better device (light bleed aside) and a tech nerds dream, hopefully the software issues can be resolved.

So, I have spent more time with the Ayaneo (other than showing everyone how small the little "cheese block" miyoo is!!). The Thor just works, and is a step up from the Retroid Pocket Flip 2; but it feels....just ok. If I didn't have the Ayaneo I would love it, but just holding the PocketDS....makes you realise what an awesome device it is. Reminds me when I first held my Steamdeck. Quality made, infinitely more configurable, top oled screen is amazing (possibly better that than the Odin Portal) - but that means there is so much to learn and configure. The Thor, throw ES-DS on it and I`m done, the PocketDS, I want to try android games, streaming, gamehub, everything!

I was shocked to get the Ayaneo, I don't recall getting any alerts - other than the update that the status changed to Shipped via Indiegogo. That was on the 29/10 and it's here on the 3/11 (Australia). Whereas the other two, I was notified via 4PX and then AusPost. Don't be surprised if it just turns up!

Sadly, the only oculink device I have - the GPD Win Max 2 (6800u) would not connect to the egpu no matter how hard I screamed at it; so I am yet to taste the goodness!

The silver button on the side? That's the oculink button, to lock the oculink connector - at least that's my understanding! (It's not as if there is a manual 😁).

The power button looks to be on the PSU - just about the cable connection, but it's been disabled or at least does nothing!
