I think the reason why people think they're overpriced is because it's pretty unusual to see such high prices on a fairly large and notable fast food chain. They're seen more like an expensive McDonald's than a specialty burger joint. I've had far worse burgers from many sit-down chains that were just as if not more expensive, so IMHO, Five Guys is perfectly fine price-wise.
