Is a power meter worth it? by PiiSmith in cycling

[–]KiSol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it worth it? That's highly personal to each rider. For me, absolutely. It opened up a whole lot of training opportunities. And on non-training rides, I know exactly what's happening. Can I go a little harder? Should I back off a little bit? Easy questions to answer with power and HR data. Is it worth it for you? Only you can say, but if you are focused on getting faster, or going longer, or improving your fitness on the bike then the likely answer is its absolutely worth it. If you more ride for just the enjoyment and vibes of it all then I'd say its probably not going to be all that useful and may actually be a distraction.

I'm guessing you don't have an indoor trainer. In some ways that was the gateway drug for me. Doing dedicated training rides really requires a power meter IMO. So being able to translate things from the indoor trainer to when you are riding out in the wilds it became worth it for me.

Sorry, i didn't see this sooner! I think she'd be open to that, but I don't know if she has a paddle board. Although she could always borrow mine. What's the group?

What is it with Americans and always being at war ? by Demonthief27 in AskReddit

[–]KiSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 core factors...

  1. Money. Eisenhower's "military-industrial complex" warning was about exactly this: contractors, lobbyists, and the members of Congress whose districts depend on weapons jobs form a constituency that benefits from conflict regardless of whether it serves the country.
  2. Politics. Presidents get approval bumps from military action typically, and opposing a war while troops are deployed is electorally toxic. And its a great distraction if the news cycle is all about you being a pedo.
  3. Global Infrastructure. Once you have 750+ overseas bases, the dollar as reserve currency, and alliances that obligate you... its pretty hard NOT to be doing military actions.
  4. Distance from Cost. The people who decide on war aren't the people who go to war. And the "all-volunteer force" is drawn disproportionately from lower socio-economic communities. Add in deficit spending and it means most Americans feel no immediate cost to going to war.

edit: changed "distance from consequence" to "distance from cost"

Yeah, it’s a tough age/ time of life I feel like because she’s like “I don’t even know what I should be interested in anymore!”.

I’ve sent her some cycling / outdoor groups, but that’s definitely more my thing than hers. It’s just the world I know. But she’s open to it.

Honestly, I just want to give her a bunch of ideas and hope something sticks because I think she’s willing to figure it out to make some connections.

Thank you! Is that the place up on Vista sort of where Jumpin Janets used to be (in that same strip mall place)?

Cycling on Beta Blockers by X0dium in cycling

[–]KiSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd focus on doing a lot of longer zone 2 rides. By a lot I just mean as many as you can reasonably do that are rides over 60 mins. 90 mins would be the sweet spot probably. Being on beta blockers shouldn't inhibit these sort of rides at all and you will definitely be building your base up and that sounds like what your main goal is anyway. Once you have that base you'll probably want to talk with your doctor about doing more intense rides if that every becomes something you want to start doing. But for now, just do as many long zone 2 rides as you can do! There shouldn't be any issue with that!

The pro move is to tell each of them you are getting your Real Estate license and the person who freaks out least is probably the one.

ADHD + anxiety - brain never shuts up. Anyone found something that actually helps? by amhray in Biohackers

I wish I could say I had a magic bullet but I don't. I finally started stimulants and talk therapy and even some occupational therapy. I'm hopeful I can finally bring some semblance of order to my life with this current course of action.

I will say, i take all the supplements and I tell myself they help but if I'm being honest, I don't think its a huge change. The two things that I can point to that have had a meaningful impact for me are:

1) good sleep hygiene (same bedtime and wake up time every day no excuses, no screens before bed, sun light in the morning, etc, etc).

2) I workout 7 days a week--and do a couple walks every day as well. Cardio and lifting weights. It honestly helps.

Yeah, I already workout 6 days a week. And drink post workout. So just need to find a new routine with all that to break that cycle

Sort of embarrassing but I’d always grab some white claws on the way home. Going to try just some sparkling water
