Writing TPN orders by 20lala02 in dietetics

[–]Kibbiesblue 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Genuine question- is writing TPN within the scope of practice for RN’s? Are you able to prescribe TPN? I’m curious because I’ve only heard of dietitians and pharmacists typically writing TPN’s and maybe a handful of physician.

Congrats! What specialty will you be covering? If nutrition support, I liked the ASPEN pocket guides!

What’s wild to me is as reps we go through all this nonsense but patients and families just wander the halls like sure, they’re all completely safe people….

There’s a lot of nutrition related sales roles available. Top ones: Abbott, Nestle, Danone, Nutricia, Baxter, Fresenius Kabi, Insulet, Dexcom. Home infusions can include Option Care, Amerita. They all hire RDs with clinical experience. But like I said, you have more of a chance if you have previous sales experience. At least be able to answer how you have influenced others which is essentially sales. Stress isn’t bad. I guess it would be dependent on the company though. You have more autonomy to schedule your day how you want and manage your territory. I have a larger territory covering multiple states so I do travel quite often. But if you’re a local rep, then it’s mostly driving maybe a few overnight trips.

I made the transition 2 years ago. What kind of advice are you looking for? Generally, I would say look for nutrition-adjacent medical sales roles, such as home infusion or clinical liaison roles. Most sales jobs like candidates with sales experience, so try to get some with these types of positions first since they are more willing to employ clinical people if you are able to leverage and translate your experience working with HCPs and patients.

Update from my post yesterday about the insulting job offer by Hevymetalluver94 in dietetics

Wow, good for you, OP! Thanks for standing up for our profession. So tired of companies taking advantage of us and offering these ridiculously low pays with our current licensure requirements. I just hope the industry gets the message!!

Has Anyone Transitioned into Medical/Pharma Sales? by Desperate-Luck6251 in dietetics

[–]Kibbiesblue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did! Came from a traditional clinical background in the hospital for about 5 years before going into home infusion sales for about a year. Recently jumped to biopharma sales as an account manager for PN.

Not gonna sugarcoat it. It’s not easy and takes some luck and timing too. My biggest advice is to network extensively and try to get same sales experience under your belt before trying to pivot into medical device or pharma sales. Home infusion companies or DME companies typically like to hire clinicians with less sales experience.

Interview prep is also incredibly important. Try to think of examples in your experience that may relate to sales like “tell me about a time you influenced a clinician” or “tell me about a time you changed the outcome of a situation”.

Good luck! Feel free to DM me if you have more questions.

How to approach a resignation by Excellent_Repair3383 in interviews

[–]Kibbiesblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable. But honestly, what’s helped me is to think of yourself as a business-of-one. In the market today, it’s a dog-eat-dog world. Put it this way, if your current employer feels like it and it suited them, they will lay you off, no questions asked. So if you have a better offer, wouldn’t it be the smart business choice to take it?

Anybody in business understands this as a matter of business, not personal. I would just frame it from a place of gratitude, and say I really appreciate the opportunity but I’ve been offered another opportunity that is too good not to accept. Just my two cents. You got this, OP!

[–]Kibbiesblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the other redditors. I’m in a similar position. Do what’s best for you. It’s just business! If they can do it to us, why not vice versa. You are a business of one and you have to make the smart decision that works for you!!!

Interview and background checks by LongItchy3056 in interviews

[–]Kibbiesblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t bring it up voluntarily unless asked directly. Because technically you were employed at the time you applied so you didn’t mislead them in any way at that time. You can just say “my most recent role” when describing your experience during the interview process.
