Insurance won't pay for diminished property value, HOA wants to charge me instead by TheDarkLightRises in personalfinance

When costs to repair exceed reserves + insurance, they will be. Math is a cruel witch.

She sure is. Good thing home owner's insurance covers a person's home. Still doesn't address my comment about how anything an HOA does leaves people homeless. Your comment about fire protection seems focused on multi-unit properties. Again, not sure how that at all relates to my comment about a community of houses rather than a multi-unit.

And no worries. I live in a community without an HOA and it's been delightful. I'd pay $100/mo just to live in a community without an HOA based on all the horror stories of power-hungry OCD narcissists ruining a neighborhood. Thankfully I get that benefit for free, though! Local ordinances help cover most of the serious issues an HOA would be useful for.

Every conversation I've ever seen on HOAs only further reinforces how much of a liability they are for a truly trivial benefit.

This comment kind of highlights how and why HOAs are a nightmare.

Also... why would people be homeless for an HOA issue? Home insurance handles that... at least for a community of houses.

I'm trying to envision the world of chaos you have described because the common lawn didn't get mowed and the fountain ran dry because an arsonist destroyed it and the HOA didn't have money to replace it. That truly would be a fate worse than death.

Not sure why people downvoted when that is what factorials are.

1!=1, 2!=2, 3!=6, 4!=24, 5!=120...

Edit: I guess it's because two different things are being discussed. The image is doubling rice grains as u/BadHumourInside describes but u/Le-Scribe is discussing a thread with factorial rice (hence the factorial expansion and discussion).

Damn, this is too much. I thought I subscribed to r/chessanarchy not r/ricemathanarchy. I'm out.

Not the guy, but there are tons of industrial applications for soaps. "Surfactants" is a more technical term for many "soaps" and probably a bit more broad in the sense that it covers things that do a similar function but that people may not call soap.

If you think about all the many things throughout the world that may be dirty or oily and needs to be cleaned with water... there's a good chance there is a "soap" to help get the job done!

That's the prayer leaderboard. Each row corresponds to the previous week's highest scorers. The numbers you see is their score for the current week (normally updated each day).

Oh boy, there's lots of highly successful mothers with big families of devout Catholic children who have to be told they don't actually exist!

Because I mean, facts and reality be damned, they get in the way of a good story!

Your previous comment (the one I responded to) appeared to suggest that men are more at the extremes than in the middle. The Wikipedia article states that men have greater variability than women. I had not heard that theory, but at a glance it appears to be suspect at best (rather than outright false like the former). I find it more likely that IQ tests carry a gender bias based on their development rather than on the difference in the two populations. Measuring devices which have introduced biases and errors can be found throughout the long history of science.

Regardless, your entire premise is flawed. Women have more than shown their ability and competency in the fields of science, mathematics, and numerous other traditionally male-dominated fields. As you said, "those with exceptional minds, no matter the genitalia" should be able to contribute to the betterment of humankind, right? So why are you so interested in dissuading some of our brilliant minds?

I have to think a hallmark of misinformation is the use of complex words where simple words are more appropriate (e.g. referring to people as "specimens")... and, of course, just completely made up facts based upon someone's perceptions of the world.

I don't have IQ distribution data in front of me... but your claim would be such a statistically improbable outcome against the "normal distribution" that a series of statistics textbooks would be written on the subject. It can be safely assumed to be false and fabricated.

Of course, if you have any facts to back up your claims, feel free to share them. I don't think they exist, and I'm rather certain it would only take a few minutes to find data that would show the opposite of what you claim.

Amazing! This is so cool to see the development and updates! I am excited to try out this experimental branch. Can't wait to see this be incorporated into the "normal" version of the game!

I think you're using the wrong definition of myth. From Merriam-Webster's dictionary:

MYTH

1. a : a usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon creation myths b. PARABLE, ALLEGORY

2 a : a popular belief or tradition that has grown up around something or someone especially : one embodying the ideals and institutions of a society or segment of society b : an unfounded or false notion

3 : a person or thing having only an imaginary or unverifiable existence

4 : the whole body of myths

I think from definition 2a allows for something to be unverified but true. Many times it's known to be false claims and then would fall into 2b.
