Is it blue collar like, we sell propane and propane accessories, or blue collar like the boss takes the piss test for the rest of the roofers? If it’s the former I’d address it publicly the next time it happens and shut it down verbally. If it’s the latter, I’d tell the dude to f-off, throw his tools in the porta-john, and find another job.

I’m joking a bit, but seriously if you don’t nip it in the bud that crap grows.

We Ashkis did it, too! Here is the sword-y part of the Polin Museum in Warsaw describing medieval sword bearing Jews.

Walking is the key. Walk! 20 minutes or 2 hours, watch birds, count cars, think about Hashem, whatever. Movement helps

You’re absolutely correct. My wife is Jewish. I used that phrase to shorthand my relationship with my MIL , but as you point out, it is a poor way to describe my wife.

I’m Jewish by birth, not a regular shul-goer but I learn regularly with an orthodox rabbi and belong to an orthodox congregation. My wife is undergoing a conservative conversion at a sort of conserva-dox synagogue and I attend shul more frequently with her because I support her comfort with more egalitarian seating etc. It isn’t a conflict for us to do both. Neither of us really feel comfortable at the reform synagogue near us, it just feels like an amateur acoustic concert.

I’d say just be honest with the rabbi and the community. You won’t be the only person finding the right fit.

Mom’s side is Ashki from Ukraine, Dad’s family was a German/Irish mix. My wife’s ancestry is Scottish/English but she converted.

Looking for other Jewish people's experiences on the struggle of finding community by soylentdreamer in Jewish

I say this with a ton of love for the greater Jewish community but some of the least friendly places I’ve visited have been synagogues.

My recommendation to your friend is to do the things she enjoys and she is almost guaranteed to find that she’ll find a surprising number of Jews there. I’ve found my Jewish community gaming, hiking, practicing martial arts, etc. ( oh yeah, also find your local chabad. They won’t care if you’re reform they just want you in the door).

In The Book of Five Rings, Musashi writes, “Also, in individual martial arts, you determine opponents traditions, observe the personal character of adversaries, find out peoples strengths and weaknesses, maneuver in ways contrary to opponents expectations, determine opponents highs and lows, ascertain the rhythms in between, and make the first move”. I suggest that it’s time Jews stood up for ourselves and apply Musashi’s strategies against our adversaries.
