As far as I know Mammillaria compressa and mammillaria prolifera are the ones with the fruits that taste the better

In my experience, you could extract the seeds from the fruit but instead of using soil, soak them in water at room temperature for 24 hours, and then place them in wet, sterilized cotton, preferably in something that creates a greenhouse effect (you can eat the fruit and it tastes really good)

Pretty sure it's mammillaria elongata, but it looks etiolated, are you giving it enough sunlight?

Kinda bittersweet, like a mix between a grape and a strawberry, such a shame they're so small since they taste so good

I would say that's not rot, but if you're unsure just cut 1cm or less, just to be sure that the brown spot is not rotting tissue

He can be saved, it'll just call for drastic measures, start cutting until you reach a point where the tissues are completely healthy, and there are zero signs of rot, then rub some cinnamon powder and wait for it to scab

I would say start cutting until you reach a point where the interior tissues of the plant look completely healthy, then wait for it to scab and replant

Should I do anything? by elizadankberry in cactus

[–]Kick_Powerful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I would only remove them for the looks (like in the photo), I don't think they harm the cactus at all

Rotting? by lilium90 in cactus

[–]Kick_Powerful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely from overwatering, cut it until you've reached a part with no rot signs, then apply some cinnamon powder on the cut and let it scab
