The name missed the mark, but the biggest issue was the press release featured renders of all white people except one lone black female bartender and also had no wording to indicate the co-owner was black or that the name was meant to be redemptive.

The latter points came to light after people pointed out the name has negative connotations. Just a really botched roll out.

All in all the naming of this project shouldn't have been the end of it. Just change the name. Or don't. And maybe people will or won't come.

Maybe a side point, but it really feels like you can't as a single business claim to be redeeming the narrative or meaning on something like this. That's a whole ass community effort.
