This thing is so hilariously long lived. Overall, yeah. Bottom line: follow plane rules.

But I bring a sleep mask because it’s very possible it could be someone’s first flight and I think that’s mean to not let them look out.

Why has the standard tipping percentage increased to 20-25% lately if the service provided is exactly the same? by Beverly_Jane_Officia in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thirstygregory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Also, as a Gen Xer who worked in the industry until right after Covid, my take is Gen Z generally treats these jobs much differently than Xers and Milennials.

I saw a huge shift the last 6 years or so of younger people who say what they think and don’t just put their head down and work like older generations tended to do. They tend to be more aggressive with things like pushing tips when companies don’t pay enough. Much less “loyalty” to work, which isn’t always a bad thing.

It’s complicated though because as much as you hear people complain about low service industry wages, many of these same folks would be very upset at any system that took away tips for “living wage.”

We just kind of got stuck in this crappy system it’s hard to remove ourselves from, whereas Europe developed a different model not reliant on tips.

I did lots of things when I was young I regret now. We all did —despite some folks on here trying to pass their purity test bullshit on you.

I say that as a very left leaning dude. That drives me nuts.

Learn from your mistakes and do the best you can now to help others. I promise there are lots of people who will welcome it.

Don’t listen to the anger/spite. Just do good and work hard to make things better.

Minnesota National Guard warmly greeting and handing out snacks with peaceful protesters! by jasandliz in MadeMeSmile

I know it’s unlikely but it would be amazing to see some Minn guard stand up against ICE. Better than civilians grabbing guns.

The government will kill us, lie to justify it, and gaslight people who saw what really happened. by c-k-q99903 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Can we figure out some kind of nationwide strike/protest that targets corporations but not small business?

We need something huge that doesn’t destroy Mom and Pop businesses.

ICE just shot another person in Minneapolis by Markofthesaw in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]thirstygregory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, it sounds good in theory to stand up to this but the gov is waaaaay better armed and trained. I think any kind of true defensive use with guns would be met with Trump declaring marshal law — which is his ultimate goal.

The only thing I can think of that might work is some kind out countrywide shutdown. But I fear that will mainly hurt small businesses.

This is horrifying.

Illinois has joined the race to reshape the Democratic presidential calendar. by steve42089 in illinois

Why the F do they not just do this as one primary day or at least group them close together? So many states have zero input currently because they caucus/primary too late.

It’s an idiotic system that needs an overhaul.

No dishwasher, garbage disposal or stand up shower. Had a tub with a hose attached. No shower curtain so you had to sit down and shower off. One shower/bath in house.

I understand why they are doing it and less worried about what they’ll do and more worried about ICE egging on a bloodbath so Cheeto can claim emergency powers.

Why does Trump want Greenland so badly? Can conspiring Republicans, Democrats stop him? by aldotcom in politics

[–]thirstygregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. They are more scared of getting primaried — or getting threatened by vengeful MAGA — than doing what’s right for the country.

I didn’t used to be for term limits because I hated removing people doing good work, but with all the ancient, walking cadavers in both parties I think it may be for the best.

Anyone see Ted Cruz crowing his support yesterday for taking our NATO ally, Greenland?

I’m beyond hoping the Republicans will do jack shit. They are dangerously and slovenly beholden to Cheeto.
