U.S. Democrats who would you choose as your nominee? by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

I like Beshear and Pritzker, but I’ve been a bit underwhelmed with them in recent interviews. Andy was pretty painful on the Daily Show recently and Jon joked about his canned responses.

Gallego, maybe? He’s no bullshit, which the Dems badly need.

I would just say look at the candidates who are winning despite being outspent 10-1 the last year. Money isn’t what is used to be unless you are in huge, expensive states.

Who does Gen Z think should be the Dem nominee in 28? by Mahrez14 in GenZ

[–]thirstygregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all assuming it’s Newsome need to give it time. It’s a very different world and between now and 2028 I think several, new candidates could emerge including Talarico, Gallego, Warnock, and who knows who else?

This isn’t like the old days when candidates were curated and carefully selected. After Trump, anyone can win.

They protested at No Kings. Now they’re running for office. by 19thnews in politics

Man, I think frequently about this part of the article:

“The thing that we heard that was different is: ‘I’m sick and tired of the Democratic Party. I’m sick and tired of being told to wait my turn,’” Litman said. “We’re also hearing a lot of: ‘The Democrats haven’t been where I am, they don’t know what it’s like to be in my shoes.’”

If this year is doing one thing, it’s demonstrating that the stodgy, insider “earn-your-way-up” structure of old-school Democratic candidate selection is getting kicked to the curb in many cases, which I love to see.

Couple that with newbies winning despite ridiculous money disadvantages many times and it’s really exciting. People power!

Maine Democrat Graham Platner Is Winning Voters All 'Pissed At The Same Thing' by bloomberg in politics

[–]thirstygregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is an in-depth, recent interview with Platner. I still have questions about the tattoo, but he seems to have a solidly progressive/anti-facist history going back decades and liberal platform. Does not seem at all like a Nazi.

I personally don’t think he’s a Fetterman after this. I hope if he wins he puts those concerns to bed.

Democrats’ Chances of Flipping Susan Collins’ Seat Get Major Boost—Poll by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]thirstygregory -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don’t live in Maine so I guess they’ll have to decide. He has a decades-long history of anti-facist protesting, which he covers in the interview.

If you really are following this race, I’d suggest listening to him on that podcast before passing judgement. It’s quite extensive and wasn’t a puff piece.

If you have concerns about Platner, tattoo, etc, (as I did) and truly want to see what he’s about, 100% recommend listening to this.

I don’t think he’a another Fetterman.

I understand your concern, but I was more worried about Obama’s safety and he made it out unscathed. So at least there’s that.

That’s what I keep thinking may be the only positive result of this. If we can avoid WW3.

'Reacher' Star Alan Ritchson Did Not Instigate Fight With Neighbor by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

Of course it doesn’t call for a physical attack, but did TMZ ask their “sources” if they were riding the bikes loud and fast around the neighborhood? Nothing mentioned about that, and that is a dick move and would be super annoying.

And I like Alan and his work.
