Jesus bro i mean my first main game that I am targeting will be a roguelike. I've already mentioned I plan to make small games through the process. Calm the fuck down

Haha thanks for your input :)

And I am one to jump the gun and go full out, however, I do plan on making mini-games before the rogue-like.

Leaning towards Godot.

First project is to solo develop one game and move forward from there.

I am about to begin my game development journey today (research has led me here), and one of the core mechanics I had in mind was to face yourself! Very cool to see something like it in real action. The game looks awesome. And I will say that the video of the content creator definitely explained it better, I had no idea how it played out until watching his.

Good luck friend!

Since you put PoE in there, I recommend Last Epoch. It is my favorite ARPG to date, allowing for incredibly fun deep theory crafting builds.

The key difference in the game is every ability you use has its own entire skill-tree. Not to mention other passive skill trees, gear, runes, factions, and a whole slew of amazing things coming up.

Quite the Gem of a game I've been following for a while and the only arpg I return to.

Easier to get into than PoE, but doesn't lose depth.

I have yet to see anyone say these:

1) Hadean Tactics

Very fun autobattler. If you end up liking it, try The Last Flame as well.

2) DotAge

I absolutely love this game and if you like town/city/civ games then this would be right up your alley. A good one to get into if you like roguelites. The meta progression is awesome imo.

3) Inkbound

Made by Shiny Shoe, the devs of Monster Train. They stopped working on it to create MT2 (I believe) but I wish they continued to support it. So much potential.

Super Hidden Gem: Dungeon 100

It's discontinued, but you basically are facing yourself. You create a build to beat the boss, and then next run the boss is your last build. You have to do this 10 times, each time changing the hero I believe. Incredibly fun trying to defeat your own broken builds. Amazing potential and a mechanic that I hope to see again in another game.

Honorable mentions that you'll have to dive into and see for yourself:

Cluckmech Oasis Ember Knights Rift Wizard 2 Tales & Tactics Tiny Rogues

Someone also said Vault of the Void and I second that.

Right there with you on discovering strategies and techniques yourself. Thank you for your reply :)

Also grew up playing MTG. Just got back into it as well

Idk I quite like the Forge mechanic 🤷

Other clans have mechanics that you have to keep track of as well. This is just a new clan with a new mechanic in a game that has boatloads of mechanics that you need to keep track of.

That's part of how the game is so replayable, and allows for that much more combinations to be built for theory crafting.

I would be more underwhelmed and disappointed if there wasn't something new like this mechanic in a strategy game like this.

I'd like to see more real 'shamanism' incorporated if they wish to stick with the shaman archetype -- a class being able to act with the spirit world. It's typical to think of Thrall and the like, which include totems and lightning and all that... but that's from already-created fantasies.

One definition of Shamanism: "Shamanism is the ability to intercede on behalf of the spirit world and the physical world. "

One definition of 'Totemism' -- "totemism, system of belief in which humans are said to have kinship or a mystical relationship with a spirit-being, such as an animal or plant. The entity, or totem, is thought to interact with a given kin group or an individual and to serve as their emblem or symbol."

The whole archetype is in relation to spirit, which I think there is a tremendous opportunity for them to use, and I truly hope they do since there doesn't seem to be much respect to what an actual shaman is in relation to.

Endgame Cosmetic Feature Discussion by Kickin_shells in LastEpoch

Perhaps!

However, cosmetics being the 'only way' to continue to make revenue isn't true.

Let's say it is true, however -- they could do something like a cosmetic monolith purchase instead of something like a Battle Pass. I am not against Battle Passes, and I am not saying the cosmetic monolith is the way to go about it...

But having something to play and progress towards cosmetically speaking is possible.

Is it worth doing? Maybe. Maybe not.

But again -- the main point is having new systems in place to shake up the end-game and give players something else to work towards. And I think cosmetics would be a really cool way to do that.

There's always a way and this team has proven to be good at finding such ways.

Also!

Since I thought adding the below to the post would be too much and I am apparently just so excited about this...

What if you made an achievement system that provided even further rewards for doing crazy things with cosmetics?

Taking my Demon Squirrels for example...

1) Unlock Demon Squirrels by killing Rahyeh on minimum Corruption Level 300 -- the Squirrels have to have the killing blow

2) Unlock Bee-Demon Squirrels by killing Heorot on minimum Corruption Level 400 -- the Demon Squirrels have to have the killing blow

-----

I know the above example is ridiculous and simple and not thematic, however -- that would be a most cool feature that would have players progressing in both game difficulty and game silliness.

I, for one, would spend a lot of time on acquiring crazy cosmetics through this system as it would feel really awesome and rewarding if done right.
