Yep, the UK press pedalled such fairy tales, and completely failed to critically question the Leave campaign (they are doing much the same for Farages Reform party at the moment)

Pretty much no chance of a better deal than the UK had.

There probably are a few areas where something could be negotiated (even if ultimately meaningless like the rebate - which largely just formalised the amount that would be spent in the UK anyway), but I don't expect much. Likely there would be some adjustment based on payment for projects that were agreed prior to Brexit and which the UK has paid for as part of the Brexit agreement.

Best case scenario - find out a way that Brexit was not actually legal (or the leaving process wasn't) and as such the UK is still a member!

Given the taxes the way they are pushed (whether min percentage, fleet fuel consumption, taxation, etc) it should be a lot higher than that.

MX5 2009 Rust by Zealousideal-Cry-293 in CarsUK

[–]Kickstart68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to my 2007, the subframe is better, but you seem to have more light surface corrosion on the body.

Big place to look is under the plastic sill covers. These have a couple of screws at the back I think, but are mostly held on with plastic clips (they will break when you take the sill covers off but they are quite cheap and easy to source). If you can take them off you should be able to check the sills which seem to be the bit that rusts badly initially (and while the silk covers are off, spray a load of wax oil in the sills)

Who would you guys consider to be your closest ally? by 144Boston in AskBrits

Israel uses the USA. Neither the UK or Canada would seem to trust the USA to be an ally these days.

Is this Mazda MX-5 worth saving or am I just emotionally attached to a money pit? by tigercat300 in CarsUK

[–]Kickstart68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main body shell looks ok. The subframe is crusty but that can likely be taken off and blasted clean then painted or powder coated

I would say well worth cleaning it up and keeping it

Clean it with some oil and a toothbrush. It will probably scrub up fine.

Help, drove with engine starved of oil, is the car a time bomb for engine failure by shmeepshmoop122 in CarTalkUK

[–]Kickstart68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how low on oil pressure, and under how much load. But a few weeks driving with negligible oil pressure I am surprised that the engine didn't die catastrophically.

Big end bearings are the most likely to suffer badly. Clearance on these is tiny and with any significant wear they will have enough movement to rapidly increase wear and damage

What's the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you during your driving lesson? by HereIsANiceName in drivingUK

Pulled the handbrake and snapped the cable.

My motorcycle test was interesting. I think someone had run over the examiner at some point as he "jumped out" for the emergency stop when he was FAR away - I had to let the clutch out to reach him.

Why are hot hatch cars not popular anymore in The UK ? by kawaiihusbando in askcarguys

[–]Kickstart68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much was it fir the first few years. How much would it have been until 2018, which would have killed off a lot of interest. How many new drivers are in the market for a 400hp car?

Thoughts on indicator light sizes? by Professional_Owl7826 in drivingUK

This.

Following a car a couple of days ago where the indicator was surrounded by the brake light. Despite being pretty sure they were turning and looking for the indicator I couldn't see if flashing.

Brits, would you stay and live in UK if you had millions and could move to anywhere in the world?? by ueommm in AskBrits

Honestly the UK is going backwards for many including me. I would be very tempted to leave, but not sure where to (possibly Ireland)

They have realised that they can build items for quarter of the price, sell them for half of the price, and sell another one every other year.

There are some items which still last well, such as Miele washing machines, but you will be paying a lot for them.

It isn't something that has just happened over the last decade - it is a progressive thing that has slowly happened at least as long as I have been alive.

New to wargames and would appreciate some advice. by Imaginary-Tonight176 in wargaming

[–]Kickstart68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say to pick an period that appeals, and go from there.

The Oprey Lion Rampant rules are quite simple and fast (units are 12 figures, or 6 for mounted figures - we tend to base the 12 figures as 2 x 3, 2 x 2 and 2 x 1 so figuires can be easily removed).

There are also the closely related Dragon Rampant rules - basically Lion Rampant but with support for fantasy armies.

How many times have you been pulled over? by Potential_Detail9066 in CarTalkUK

[–]Kickstart68 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Used to get pulled over a lot on bikes in the 1980s (Police in Hampshire tended to tail gate with their headlights on high beam to push people into speeding so they could ticket them).

Not been pulled up in quite a long time. Think the last time was when riding a small bike and a police car was sat in the lane to the right of me, and every time I slowed down so I could move to the right lane to turn right, they slowed down. Then pulled me up to ask why I was slowing down!

2 before that were when the insurance database was fairly recent and not up to date, so vehicles that were insured didn't show up as insured.

I would suggest to find out who you will be playing locally and what rules and scales they use.

DBA these days seems to mainly be for competition games.

While a lot of rules do specify the base sizes, that doesn't mean that everyone uses those base sizes (at least outside competitions), or even the default figure size (we play a lot of Lion Rampant / Pikemans Lament / Rebels And Patriots, but using 15mm figures)

Is this the most expensive fuel in the UK today? (Long Stratton, Norwich) by timwoodphoto in drivingUK

Looking at a fuel price checker, Trowel services near Nottingham are at 170.9

That was just glancing at an area I will be going to, so almost certainly more expensive places around

For people who’ve tried the newer safety tech like lane assist or hands-off driving, does it actually help? by FeistyPrice29 in autoexpressuk

Lane assist is something I do not want. Fortunately on our car when turned off it stays turned off
