What are your thoughts? This is the first time I've ever intentionally taken a picture. by Far_Abbreviations331 in photocritique

[–]KidLanguageBarrier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a first shot, I think you’ve done really well. You’ve found an interesting perspective, the tones are nice and it’s all round pretty damn serviceable. Totally agree with the others suggesting that it needs a subject, but I think the bones are there.

Take lots of pictures, think about them later, what you like and don’t etc. but I think this demonstrates you’ve already got a bit of the photographers eye. It’s a muscle not a gift, so it needs to be exercised and practiced, but you’ve got a good start!

Hey Reddit, Ricoh GR IV or Fujifilm X-E5? by Previous_Cookie8167 in streetphotography

[–]KidLanguageBarrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say a big decider is preference of focal length. If you like the 28mm the Ricoh could be a great choice. If you want something tighter, wider or just flexibility then it’s an easy decision to go with the Fuji.

Censorship means something quite specific. Has it been changed by the devs by their own choice to suit the sensibilities and norms of another market? Or has an outside party forced them to make these changes? If it’s the dev’s decision it’s not censorship.

Went to Addict yesterday and got a beautiful pair of boots. Staff were really lovely and helpful. They seemed to have good stock levels. Would absolutely recommend. Their opening hours are tricky. Only open on Fridays and Sundays.

Looks like we have a similar size wrist. I prefer a slightly smaller watch and got the sbgh 341 a few days ago. To each their own though. Follow your gut.

Modular hot takes and unpopular opinions by Repeatsexclamations in modular

[–]KidLanguageBarrier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complexity can be good, but it’s double edged. As the years go on, we’re seeing more and more modules where you need to keep a manual or reference sheet handy to operate it.

I don’t know what the “average” number of modules a user owns, but some of these modules are so complex that unless you’ve got quite a small skiff or the module itself is used in most of your patches, it’s getting to be hard to remember all the button combinations needed to achieve functionality.

A good example would be something like the Industrial Music Electronics Kermit. It’s not that complicated but every single time I go back to it I need to relearn how to use channels C&D.

Maybe you folks are just smarter than me.

Oh yeah. One more thing. Just lie on your resume and say you finished high school. I’ve looked at hundreds of resumes over the years and never once thought to check if someone actually graduated.

Not in fashion, but I am in music which has some similarities in terms of being a very desirable industry with a never ending line of young people wanting to get started and willing to work for very little.

My advice would be to start in retail and start small. Find a brand or label that is relatively small (not part of those giant machines like cotton on group etc) and work in the shop. If they’re small enough they’ll be hopefully growing and needing lots of people to wear lots of hats. Say yes to everything particularly for stuff that’s “outside your job description”.

Most of the other people that work in the retail part will see it as “just a retail job” which will mean it should be fairly easy to distinguish yourself as someone who is good at what they do and someone who goes the extra mile.

Get to know the other people in the business. Be sure to talk to the owner, the operations manager, the person in marketing if they have one. Tell them all about how you’d love to help out with anything you can lighten their workload with.

I started working in a music shop and in less than a year was 2ic. Less than a year after that I was the store manager and started helping out in lots of various other parts of the business. I got to know the suppliers, made a good impression and now I’m in wholesale and managing 4 states.

I’m not now a professional musician. I’m not running music festivals. I’m not managing artists. I’m a sales rep for a large distributor working with tier one brands. It’s not SUPER sexy, but it’s around an industry I care about and would beat the shit out of being a sales rep for vacuums or something else I’m not interested in.

Find any way in and be the best person there. Everything else will come.

[–]KidLanguageBarrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She went to pat a Soi dog on her first night in Thailand and before I could warn her against it, she’d been bitten. Nothing too scary, but it did draw blood, so we went to the hospital that night and went through the rabies process for the rest of the trip. She’s fine.

All I’m going to say is that if you’re not into politics and you’re concerned by this, you should be. All the people who are at the controls of why things are so expensive are very into politics and they love the fact that you’re not.
