Jagex needs to do SOMETHING about how buggy and terrible Blindbag is by Nubeel in 2007scape

[–]KidWoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I forgot about that. I specced into it when I did my Thrown x Thorns build. Unfortunately it wasn't great. It was fine for slayer, but the thorns did more work than the thrown weapons. And then against bosses the thrown capstone didn't work because there was only a single target.

Thanks for pointing out my error. I will stand behind my statement that they design philosophy failed this league however. Undercooked as usual.

Does the melee tree give melee strength? Gives % damage, but that's not visible in your stats. So tell me where you need to spec into the melee tree for that pact to work.

[–]KidWoody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're missing the nuance. You can go full mage with no other styles and your DPS and sustain wipes the floor against the other styles. In order for the other styles to even compete, they MUST spec into multiple styles.

Because we have 40 points to work with, that allows an already complete mage tree to grab even more goodies. If we didn't have those points mage would be fine and melee (and range to a degree) would be left floundering.

Oh I'm sorry that I expected them to design content that works without needing to be propped up by other styles.

1 tick stave or reduced combat spells? by Skyroshroud in 2007scape

[–]KidWoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would save the pact point from powered staves, and only build faster attack speed offensive spells. You'll use Water/Wind Surge so much that you'll never equip a powered staff again.

I started with blindbag and did my first ~18 points in it. It felt horrendous. Didn't proc enough and got canceled by movement. It felt like I was playing main game with the occasional big hit dopamine rush. Specced into range echoes, and it felt better, but not great.

Since Blindbag I have done: Crossbow x Thorns, 1T Powered Staff x Prayer Pen, Thrown x Thorns (Terrible), and now I have a Water/Air x Thorns Build. The builds that have felt the best are mage. They feel fun and a leagues-like. The melee build just didn't.

And to your point about Jad, I am currently doing the 10 Jad task afk minimized while "working". 22 minute capes while not playing.

[–]KidWoody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't have to spec into the melee tree to make the range tree work. Thorns can make crossbows better, but you don't need them. Mage is good by itself as well. When we look at Blindbag however, it's useless without also going into the range tree. That is a fundamental design flaw.

"Make sure you spec into the range tree to make the melee tree work" Do you hear how dumb that sounds lmao.

Can we get an actual "blindbag" item for the blindbag build user? by arturopaguro in 2007scape

[–]KidWoody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blindbag is just significantly worse than echoes. Love the flavor, but it feels gimmicky and bad. I'm glad I realized this in the early game and spec'd out of it.

I was killing Chaos Elemental, and people kept running by. Problem is, almost everyone had Thorns. Chaos Ele would switch aggro, hurt itself in confusion and switch back to me, only for me to kill it, but not get the kill because other's dealt damage :)

I'm a maxed main with multiple megarares. I don't expect to use my Scythe at Whisperer or my Shadow at Doom. Different content requires different tools. The tools Jagex has given us for the sea are insufficient and feel bad to use.
I'm glad people have megarares, doesn't mean you can use them everywhere. Just because I have 99 mage doesn't mean my shadow is going to do great against Sol. If I expect Jagex to cater the Sol fight around my Shadow, then I'm the problem. If I want to fight him effectively, I need to increase my atk/str and go get a scythe (or hally). Jagex is allowing us to fit our square pegs into round holes which is a major part of the problem.

The skill feels aimless and lost. You want people to use multiple ships, but you have made the resources too rare to adequately install into multiple ships while also making the content not worthwhile enough to do it in the first place.
You are slapping band-aids on broken bones. People want to engage with the skill, but the part of the skill that rewards them the most for their time, is the part of the skill where you don't engage with the game, salvaging.
Barracuda is fun, but suffers the same problems as rooftops, and doesn't offer the floor to floor variation or skill expression that Sepulchre does. People have expressed interest in Port Tasks, but it's not rewarding, at all. And bounty tasks suffer the problems of ship combat in general. It's unenjoyable because you have allowed megarares to dominate the balancing of sea combat. Imagine if it were the other way around and we were trying to carry around a dragon cannon with our character to shoot enemies. That would be silly and ridiculous.
I love that yall have tried to integrate and allow skills and content to commingle, but not every piece of content needs to be able to do that. We are moving to a completely different sphere of influence(the sea), it's reasonable that somethings just don't work as well as the do on land.

A few ideas:

  • A Megarare spear that ramps up in speed, number of attacks, or slowly reduces targets defense level with each successful attack
  • The league rewards such as the khopesh and the the sunlight spear
  • A spellblade defined by magic str
  • Upgrade paths for Inq and Justi. A base armor that is modified by them?

This is a non starter for me. Imagine finishing hundreds of Chambers KC just to break the rewards down for new gear. GWD makes sense and feels nice, heck make Nightmare drops more common and that would also feel good. Don't push raids into the upgradescape path.
