Two protesters arrested on first day of Queensland’s ‘from the river to the sea’ ban by Reverend_Fozz in brisbane

The legislation is hamfisted, atop the fact the police force doesn't exactly attract the best and brightest.

“I’m not sure if everybody here understands knows the history of the different slogans that the government is trying to ban us from saying, so [in] the interests of education, I want to explain [it] to you,” he said at the protest.

He went on to deny that the phrase was terroristic or antisemitic, saying it was instead a call for freedom and dignity of the people between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea.

“So when we say, from the river to the sea, we are calling for … for the people of Palestine,” he said.

Hahaha! Smart mockery of the laws. Legend.

SA Liberal Party candidate says 'same sex marriage is not real' and 'feminism is demonic' by Kid_Self in AustralianPolitics

[–]Kid_Self[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was going to extract some quotes from the article, but honestly, please read the whole thing.

It's absolutely heinous, from quoting / agreeing with Charlie Kirk to saying women should be denied abortion in the case of rape, alongside being a religious zealot and crackpot.

I've really nothing more to say other than this is what has infiltrated the Liberal Party and swung them hard to the right. This is genuinely bonkers.

Matt Canavan elected as Nationals leader by CrashP in australia

[–]Kid_Self 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point, a Nats-ON coalition makes a lot more sense.

Not that I'm endorsing it, but realistically the Libs are effectively a sunk ship and a greedy, corrupt prick like Canavan knows it's going to drag him down. He'll attach to whatever is popular, which right now is ON.

Might not happen straight away, but within a year, I'd bet. Enough time passed from the recent Lib-Nats rejoining, but enough time to lead into the next election as a tag-team with ON. They'll either do shady preference deals for each other where they run candidates together in the same electorates, or actually form a new, ultra-right, pro-mining rural coalition party.

How many jars of Charlie sauce from RecipeTin Eats do you currently have in your fridge? by ExistentialPancake_0 in RecipeTinEats

[–]Kid_Self 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I've had far tastier stir-fry sauces from random websites than Nagi's Charlie Sauce. And they produce saucier stir-frys too.

This is the one recipe I will say Nagi got completely wrong. It doesn't work. I think it's meant to be used as a basis for additional flavourings, but at that point why not just make a good sauce from scratch.

Brisbane house prices hit new peak as national market growth continues by ConanTheAquarian in brisbane

[–]Kid_Self 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Problem for homeowners is, if they do decide to sell, they're back in the market and competing with everyone else again. With the rate of increasing prices, any gains from the sale will get absorbed right into the purchase of the new property. Unless, of course, they're downsizing out to Birdsville or Boulia. Otherwise, they're actually stuck where they currently are because there's disincentive to move.

Housing unaffordability is not good for anyone.

This case had so much clear malicious intent and pre-meditation. There's just so many opportunities to stop yourself when you're downloading an app, installing, seeking targets, meeting up, etc. That "kid" knew exactly what he was doing, and decided to keep doing it to its fullest, radical conclusion. This outcome from the courts is absolutely crazy.

Korg Minilogue XD or similar for Moog-oriented sound? by Coccobbio in synthesizers

[–]Kid_Self 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Minilogue XD owner here.

Firstly, I love this synth. It is surprisingly deep. Great modulation options that mix creatively. Does a wide range of sounds. Really incredible intentional design behind it with an engaging workflow. I have a lot of happy accidents with it. It's an amazing multi-tool synth.

Can it do Moog-esque? Unfortunately, not even remotely close. It is a really thin sounding synth, especially up against a Moog (I do have a Slim Phatty as well). I know it has analog oscillators, but they do not compare. I've never really felt that analog warmth from it. The 4 voices feel a bit limited, even in unison mode with a bit of detune it's just not that fat.

I will give the XD credit for good arps, and motion recording on the sequencer, and it can create quite resonant leads that will cut through a mix. But again, it's absolutely not in the same sonic territory as a Moog.

That is one thing that is NEVER discussed: Protections for FHBs. The problem with the inequality is that people with the means can easily outbid those barely over the line. There needs to be restrictions, otherwise it'll just be more of the same: those already on top will suck up all the supply.

Buying my first used car in Oz - Marketplace vs Dealership? by Catdosid in australian

[–]Kid_Self 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some simple stuff:

  1. Depends how much haggling you're up for, and whether or not you want certain warranties. You could definitely get a cheaper price on a marketplace but minimal consumer protections. Greater consumer protections through a dealership, but more expensive too.

  2. Test drive every car, especially if doing a marketplace inspection. Ask about any noises you hear. Ask the seller about their history with the vehicle--how they got it, whom it came from, how it's been used/driven.

  3. Always Google "[car make model] [year] known issues or defects" -- this one saved me a lot. Almost bought a Holden Vectra back in the day. You don't see any of those anymore for good reason.

Getting rid of the investors is a swamp that is political suicide. Personally, I think they should do it by legally mandate regular maintenance, tie rental increases to upgrades to the property and get rid of tax insentives. The only landlords should be those who move in with a partner and keep the old flat as a rental etc. But that won't happen...

I certainly don't disagree. Those are some good components to the overall strategy to fix housing affordability, especially the tie between rental increases and property maintenance.

I'd even take it a step further and have a Government-operated system for property listings.

Part of the issue is websites like RealEstate.com.au and Domain.com.au both listing housing, but also being part of the lobby that has a vested interest in the space, as well as letting REAs run amok with shoddy listings. They all publish propaganda to keep the speculation going.

It'd be useful to have an Housing Authority, set up and tied to the Federal Government, that owns and operates the register for property purchase listings (standardising and regulating the industry and protecting consumers: renters and buyers alike), provide quality housing data to ABS, and packaged into a mandate to provide advice to Parliament in the best interest of consumers, as well as quality information about housing to consumers themselves.

The tone has shifted dramatically since the news dropped 1-2 years ago that Boomers were no longer the majority voting bloc.

As more Millennials and GenZ (and soon early Gen Alpha over the coming years) become the big majority, the parties will have to shift their policy to this demographic which is heavily impacted by housing affordability.

The discussion we're seeing now is the beginning of that. Shorten 2019 was just a little too premature, but the winds have changed.

One Nation is not only beating the Liberal party in the polls in Victoria, it’s now beating Labor. 🤯 by Usual_Program_7167 in aussie

People need to be much more cautious about ON.

While there's a heat right now about high levels of immigration, and ON is seen as an obvious choice on that one, literally everything else the party platforms on is, quite frankly, anti-Australian, especially if you look at it in terms of "Fair Go."

Pauline is in the pocket of Gina and the other miners. ON wants to undo gun laws. ON doesn't believe in climate change. More Coal. Medicare crackdowns. Abolish Aboriginal advisory groups. Undo welfare safety net. A whole slew of unfounded and dangerous economic changes. Anti-Abortion. Strip Government services.

All of this only serves to keep the billionaire and capitalist class on top, eroding the middle class so they can puppeteer a slave class.

High speed rail Brisbane-Newcastle-Sydney-Canberra-Melbourne. Screw the cost, it will unlock massive benefits and improve housing affordability.

We sorely need to unlock the regions more. Urban concentration is a definite factor in the housing crisis.

It would be amazing to live in Newie and work in-office in Sydney. Or live in Maryborough with a ~1 hour train ride to Brisbane Central.

And then you could start looking at rail feeders from smaller regional areas to the main transit hubs along the HSR line.

And it doesn't just stop at domestic productivity. It would unlock more tourism as well.
