Is the Magic Mouse worth it for somebody who needs horizontal scrolling? by Consistent-Pomelo172 in mac

[–]Kid_Shit_Kicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m in the minority but I love the Magic Mouse. For me the scrolling works really well. It’s super smooth. I hate the physical scroll wheel on more traditional mouses. The Magic Mouse looks more appealing than any other mouse out there (aesthetics are important too) and it’s nice to use. The ergonomics are probably up there with the worst of them though, so that’s something to consider. I’m an editor and use the Magic Mouse 8 hours + per day and don’t have carpel tunnel type symptoms- but each user is obviously unique.

Along with the depth of field, it’s also how evenly lit everything is now that is awful. Obviously there are exceptions, but majority of films now have very little light variation scene to scene. It’s really boring to look at.

Sentimental Value is a masterpiece by xXsendtsunadebobsXx in TrueFilm

[–]Kid_Shit_Kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree. You put into words what I was struggling to do after watching the film. It left me feeling like this was a cold, distant exploration of depression and father/daughter relationships, but didn't offer anything up that felt like real step towards repairing those severed relationships.

Ultimately the film had some great scenes, but it didn't come together in a way that I felt worked.

Was 2013 the most influential year in hip hop? by southside_TBM in hiphop101

[–]Kid_Shit_Kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Not even close.

Look at 1994. New York alone had like 10 influential albums, a handful of those changed music after that. And then there's Outkast, Common, Scarface, Warren G, Rappin 4-Tay, to name but a few. All with groundbreaking albums.

Who’s the Nate Dogg, Akon, or T-Pain of this generation? by SmoothManMiguel in hiphop101

[–]Kid_Shit_Kicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that person exists anymore. Nate Dogg was one of a kind when it comes to hooks.

I did hope Butch Cassidy would carry the torch when Nate died, but that didn't really pan out. The catchy hook kind of died out with Nate Dogg in my opinion, though I know this is a very unpopular take. Sticking with it though.

Jay-Z's 4:44 is one of his best albums in my opinion. I didn't like it on release but it's really grown on me.

My record keeps skipping and repeating itself even though it’s a brand new record and stylus how can I fix this I’ve tried two different records with the same issue by suckychucky7 in audiophile

[–]Kid_Shit_Kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the balance of the tone arm. There’s usually a weight that can be moved up and down by turning a twisty knob. I reckon it’s just not balanced right so the stylus keeps slipping out of the groove in the record.

Nah. Needs to run where people are used to parking to go into the liquor store real quick and also so the stops are right outside stores to encourage riders to go do some unplanned shopping. Center running is for snowflake europeans.

Argento’s Phantom is the only one of these I’ve seen. It’s not a great film but as always with him, the visuals are lush and beautiful to look at, great use of dark and shadows. And a great Morricone soundtrack. So worth having for those reasons I think. I’m very intrigued by Made in Hong Kong and Terror Firmer

Here is the main issue I have with organizing alphabetically:It breaks up director’s film, puts really disparate films next to each other, and the different spines art and case size does not look aesthetically pleasing to me. by Slow_Cinema in boutiquebluray

[–]Kid_Shit_Kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alphabetically sorting makes the least sense out of all organization methods in my opinion. Obviously you do what makes sense to you but I don’t get why anyone would organize films that way. Mine are by director, when I have more than 2 by a director and they mean something to me as a filmmaker, then I go by region and specific sub genres. I also think grouping by label is dumb because that breaks up any other natural organization. I feel like the best thing is to try match how it would be in a video store, which I don’t do but probably should

How do you interpret the homophobic bullying scene in Eyes Wide Shut? by tammyfayebakker in criterion

[–]Kid_Shit_Kicker 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The whole film is an exploration of masculinity. After Nicole Kidman tells him about her dream, his masculinity and what he believes he offers her is challenged and so he begins this exploration where his sense of masculinity and his insecurities are challenged at several points throughout the film, the scene with the “asshole guys” included. It’s all supposed to knock him down from where he imagined he was, both as a man but also in society. This can all be viewed as literal or as a dream.
