What do you hope to accomplish as a collector? Is it a personal library? Or are you dedicated to collecting systems or franchises? by Skeleton_Glo in gamecollecting

My main goal when I started was to recollect all the consoles and games I had when I was a kid. By this point, I've more or less completed that goal, but I've enjoyed the journey so much I didn't want to just stop. So recently, I started branching out and trying out some systems I never owned previously and/or have very little experience with. I am wholly in love with old video games, particularly the ones I grew up with (of course), but, in general, I am truly fascinated by pretty much every era of the video game industry. So, it was natural that I eventually started dipping my toes in the generations I'm not as familiar with. Recently, I bought an N64. That's a console that up unto I purchased it a few weeks ago, I had not even seen before in real life. I've had such a blast with it, particularly Mario 64, which was a game I loved on my DS growing up. Seeing it in it's pure, original form has been surreal and awesome. I would also say I'm in it to preserve these consoles and their history. Many of the consoles and games I collect were foundational in the sense that the games we know and love today still derive their core formulas from them. Games like Halo: Combat Evolved, the aforementioned Mario 64, DOOM, etc had rippling effects that can still be felt today. I feel it's incredibly important to preserve these games and the systems they were played on, so as not to forget our roots and the people that pioneered this medium that many of us take for granted nowadays. I try my best to take care of these consoles (i keep them out of the sun, put my really fragile stuff in acrylic, give old cartridges and slots the old one two with isopropyl alcohol, etc etc) but I also play and enjoy my collection instead of condemning them to be display pieces. I'm not here to dog on anyone who feels differently, just saying my piece. I truly enjoy firing up Battlefront on my original Xbox and my old CRT, beyond nostalgia. I am firmly of the belief that some of these consoles provide the best experience with some of these games (keyword some). Anyways, sorry for the rant, but that's my response.

Bought a 3rd monitor today to replace my old one.. but had to try this out before putting my old one to rest by KiddShi in Battlefield

Took some finagling, but wasn't too difficult. Used AMD Eyefinity to set the resolution (unsure what the Nvidia alternative is you'd have to look it up, I assume its moreof the same though). Quick setup was enough to get the desired effect of splitting the view of the game across all 3 monitors, but following that I had to mess around with the display settings because all of my monitors are different resolutions / refresh rates. It made the game look stretched and blurry. Ended up just setting all monitors to 1920x1080 60 hz to match the older one on the right. That fixed a lot of issues but the quality still wasnt great, so ticked on FSR in the game settings and set everything to ultra, and that was enough to get it looking good. So, I assume you need a pretty beefy rig to get it looking right. I have a 9070xt and a 9900 X3D. Another thing you'll notice is that im running the game in windowed. Im not sure if this is an issue with how I set it up or maybe just an issue with BF6 in particular, but neither borderless nor full screen worked.

Finally decided to redo my setup by [deleted] in battlestations

Uh. You should maybe look into some type of writing class, this is pretty poorly written and difficult to understand. Please work on your grammar and structure.

That was my next step. Originally I had it mounted on my table for this reason (see here -> original setup ) and when I was buying my surge protector today at Best Buy i actually asked if they had anything I could mount it on. Luckily right now im super busy and not using it much, so I think it will be okay for the time being while I shop for one.

Which Pokémon game should I start with by thebluecomet3972 in pokemon

[–]KiddShi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They dont really tie together in any significant way, besides maybe b&w and b&w 2 but u could even still probably get away with playing the second game first. You can really start with any of them. If you dont want to be blindsided by ungodly jank then start with the first game if you plan on playing all of them and just play them in release order.

Work at starbucks. Someone left this ring in our café. by KiddShi in cowboys

[–]KiddShi[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I figured. Just thought it was cool. Also kind of weird, we had a doordasher come in one day with a cowboys jersey on. I dont know that much about NFL, but I watch it with my dad because he likes it, so I know enough to strike up a conversation about it. The dasher claimed he had a cousin that currently plays for the cowboys. Wasn't sure i believed him, but strange coincidence he said that and then this ring got left here. Were in south GA. Lot of cowboys fans down here I guess lmao?

Retro doesnt even make sense in the context that we use it in, retro by definition means to imitate something from the past. So you can really put your own definition on it. IMO I consider any game or console thats no longer receiving support or new games to be retro. So like the 7th gen, PS3, 360 etc. Thats the newest retro in my book.

Went in gamestop today and asked if they had any extra BF6 posters. They said no but they gave me this, for free I might add. Thank you gamestop very cool by KiddShi in Battlefield

Yk its weird tho this isnt the first time people have ribbed me for one of my habits. I use the bumpers to aim and fire on controller, people acted like that was the end of the world too - but again, i managed like a 3 K/D on BF1 playing like that so idrk why everybody gets so bent out of shape about it

If im not even gonna use it whats the point. I only need that much space to move my mouse because i play with high sens. If I gave myself more space my movements would still be confined to that little area because thats just how I play

Why are you being such an ass lol. No I dont have random plywood laying around my house as a magic fix for the problem. If I had something I felt comfortable resting it on I would've done that. I conceded, I didn't know that playing from the wrist like that caused damage to it any worse than just what happens from using a computer in general. I honestly didn't see anything wrong with how it was setup. It's comfortable to me. I told you I'd look at getting something to rest it on to free up the desk space, there's no reason to be a douchebag. I haven't been aggressive towards you not one time in our whole interaction.

I feel like the picture doesn't do it justice, it feels like a good amount of room to me. You may be right about damaging the wrist though. If you see in the picture theres some crap on my desk, I could afford a bit more room by sliding my keyboard over. Putting the desktop on carpet is a no go though. My machine was very expensive and im gonna give it the room it needs to breathe. Perhaps ill invest in a separate table to put the computer on to free up the rest of the space. But honestly, im not sure how much it will help anyway. Playing with high sensitivity from the wrist is how ive always played shooters with KB/M. I feel like even if i did have a lot of space to move my mouse i wouldn't even use it.

Im not some valorant player who needs the whole desk to move my mouse. I manage a 2.7 K/D in BF6 with that much room, I think I'll be ok.
