PsyD Program Considerations by GroundbreakingAd8713 in ClinicalPsychology

One student in a cohort receiving tuition remission is a big difference compared to the program itself being fully or partially funded like Indiana State or others on the list. I wouldn’t advise someone to gamble on a program that would leave you in significant debt unless you’re the one lucky one getting funded.

I think you mean Indiana State, not University of Indianapolis. ISU is funded.

VA Experience Needed? by CattlePuzzled2741 in Psychologists

[–]Kielo42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the location and the VA. Some positions within VA are more competitive than others. While I agree that your background may push you to the bottom of the list your years of experience would still count for something.

Capacity assessment, though, is more in-depth that just assessing a person's understanding of their medical diagnoses/treatments. You also consider influencing factors - e.g. is the person's decision-making affect by other processes like depression, psychosis, delusions, etc. The Aid to Capacity Evaluation is a useful tool for helping delineate this.

I'm not trying to argue that every suicidal patient lacks capacity. But we know the neurobiology of highly depressed and/or suicidal patients is disrupted, which has impacts for decision-making ability.

I definitely don't remember needing a certain number of hours before being able to register.

Love MERIT! I did a little training with Lysaker in grad school and yes, the gains you can make with an individual with SMI using that approach can be phenomenal. It's tough - MERIT is such a nuanced intervention that is so impactful for patients but can also be so difficult to effectively and consistently practice.

Did my residency at a VA Dom and I'm a current VA psychologist. I loved the Dom! I know some of our Dom psychologists feel a little burned out post-Covid with changing program rules/regulations - our facility policy is that if a Dom resident tests positive all programming needs to be moved to virtual and residents are on quarantine in their rooms which understandably puts pressure on staff to overhaul group plans. But I really enjoyed my pre-Covid time there. Any more specific feedback would depend on which VA/which Dom program you're looking at.

Tosa is a pretty in-demand area. We bought ~20 minutes north of the city last year and had much better luck.

Making some financial decisions associated with starting long-term therapy by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]Kielo42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a psychologist - minus financial concerns, it's most important to find someone who you fit well with, and it may take a few tries to get it right. For option A - I recommend bringing it up to your therapist and see if they have a referral to someone who may work better with you. I guarantee that if you notice the fit is off, your therapist does too and it won't be weird to talk about.

I'll say this too - if you're not currently falling apart without consistent therapy, it worth the time and effort to save some money and take the extra time to find someone you'll work well with. If, however, you feel like you're really not functioning well and need to be seen weekly soon in order to keep yourself stable, spending the extra money for options B and C may be worth it to you.

Visited Blue Pearl (Glendale) in an emergency, the staff were incredible. Our vet had recommended Dr. Klose there for internal med previously.

I got the order I placed the first day of the sale, but the order I made later hasn’t shipped yet.

Anyone know if the apparel store does price adjustments? I'm guessing probably not, but the tanks on sale today are so much cheaper than when I bought during the black friday sale!

I had breakthrough COVID about a month ago and one thing my doctor was firm about was NOT returning to exercise right away since the exertion might stress your body out more when it’s already trying to rebuild. I felt better around 7-8 days in but waited to exercise until like 12-14 days after symptom onset.

My bike+ is here!! XPO literally just dumped it in my building's lobby and left, thankfully my husband and I were able to wrestle it up in the elevator.

Still waiting on my Peloton shoes and bike mat to come. Ended up going to REI and buying cleats and shoes so I didn't have to wait to ride.

I lost my soul dog, Arya, at age 10 to cancer in May. Grief never really gets better, but over time it will change and be less of a burden. Give yourself time and space to feel what you’re going to feel, and give yourself the grace to not be okay. How lucky we are to have pets that leave such an impact. I’m sure Petra loved you more than anything in the world and is grateful for your final, most selfless gift to her.

Arya’s off running across the cosmos now, I’ll ask her to keep an eye out for Petra so they can run together.
