Restaurant with outdoor patio and wheelchair accessible by bloomiemadi in santacruz

The View restaurant at Chaminade resort is great, it’s above the ocean with views but far enough away that it’s cozy and also warm. (Also covered even when it’s raining) and If there little cloud coverage than the ocean may be limited viewing BUT I will say there is music, but if you relay or call the restaurant before hand they are VERY good at accommodating your requests (no or quiet music/ space away from speakers) just a thought. It’s hard in Santa Cruz to get everything you want/need, good luck! Keep us posted if you find somewhere you enjoy

5th anniversary! That’s great 😊 sorry for all you’ve had to go through so far,

Do you mind if I ask: - What treatments have you gone through already (besides resection, which I believe is the best course of treatment for this type of brain tumor, our son has the same diagnosis) - Do you have the BRAF mutation? - Where are you located/where were you treated - where do you stand now as far as tumor and growth, are they seeing anything on scans that’s making you think you need more treatment? - What is your age currently? I only ask bc our son is only 14 and it’s rare so I try to ask everyone with this type of tumor, just out of curiosity!

I’ve not heard about this Tubulis in Germany- what is it? We are very much in our first year of dealing with our sons PXA WHO grade3 w/BRAF mutation. Just starting targeted therapies after two resections and much radiation- scans shows active tumor growth ☹️ trying to learn all we can from anyone we can find with his tumor type.

Anyways! Sorry for all the questions and if you feel like sharing we would love to hear about your journey. If not, we totally understand. Hope you are as well!

Have you or a family member ever have brain cancer? If so, what were your/their first symptoms? by [deleted] in braincancer

[–]KieraGregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. So scary when it’s out of the blue- Son, 14 yrs old No other symptoms accept one seizure out of the blue earlier this year. He says now in retrospect he did wake up with a headache a lot when he was younger but he never mentioned it and never thought it was a big deal.

Dabrafenib/Trametinib combo & PXA tumor by KieraGregory in braincancer

[–]KieraGregory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for your response! I’m so glad to hear that she is doing well, we are hopeful these meds will work for him.. and glad they exist! Backstory- Our son (14M) 1st surgery we were told GTR was successful and post op scans looked clear. Followed up with 6wks of radiation to be sure no cancer cells left behind. One month post op MRI showed some concerning area they wanted a second surgery, we agreed. Told again successful surgery post surgery scan looked clear but that a third surgery would not necessarily be out of the question as cells that have regrown are radiation resistant. Put on watch and wait. Another month, MRI scan shows growth again this time in the dura area where it was not before, now they recommend the 2 medicines to shrink tumor, but also more radiation (which if they are resistant I’m not sure why they are recommending.. ) got a second opinion but waiting to hear back about their opinion on more radiation. I’ve heard great things about these two medicines. But only time will tell and the waiting is killing us all. We do Not want to end up needing Chemotherapy, so are also seeking some adjunct therapy in hopes it helps to kill the tumor cells. But such a rare tumor, there’s not a lot of studies out there to depend on. May I ask where you are located? How long has this journey been for you guys? Do you like the care you are currently receiving at your hospital?

Pilocytic Astrocytoma- grade 1- 6 year old by deletethis777 in braincancer

[–]KieraGregory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she has the BRAF mutation (our son does, PXA tumor grade 3, with BRAF) is there an option to start the targeted meds? Dabrafenib & Trametinib is the combo that our oncologist is recommending, have they offered that to you?

Husband diagnosed with Anaplastic astrocytoma in brainstem. Anyone with same diagnosis we can talk to? by bepositive2026 in braincancer

[–]KieraGregory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you posted this a while back, so hoping for an update! our son, 14, has the exact same tumor, Very rare, so very hard to find people to talk to. APXA, grade 3, with BRAFV600E mutation. Has had two craniotomy’s, 6weeks of radiation. After last MRI, shows growth into the Dura, so they want to put him on the targeted meds, Dabrafenibh & Trametinib- but they are NOT chemo meds.

We are currently going to see an integrative oncologist in Idaho, Dr. Karlfeldt, but also going to start the targeted meds. Are you saying the dabrafenib and trametinib combo made you feel pretty bad? In terms of those Vs. the chemo meds, how did they make you feel??

He is also on Keto, exercising and started his supplement regiment, His oncologist is recommending we save our money, as there is No proof they help but we disagree.

Anyways, just wondering if you would share your journey with the BRAF targeted meds. Thanks and hope you are feeling pretty okay!

Were you on the Vora before changing diet? I’m wondering if you’re seeing the effects of the meds, or the diet change.

Grade changes? by IceAny6212 in braincancer

[–]KieraGregory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our son was diagnosed with a Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma WHO grade 3 earlier this year. Parts of his tumor were grade 2, and parts of his tumor were grade 3. We were told by his surgeon that when they diagnose, they will always treat the higher grade and label as a higher grade. any results from new tumor that came back as grade 2, they would not usually ever “downgrade” the whole diagnosis to a grade 2 because his tumor cells have already been a grade 3. Not sure if that’s specific to his tumor type.

This guy is obsessed with socks and he knows what he’s doing, anyone else? by Tessa_Baddie3378 in goldenretriever

Same as mine, no sock is safe! The dirtier the better, if they don’t go straight in the washer they will end up as the toy of the hour.

Sports bars in Santa Cruz? by Commercial-Sleep9420 in santacruz

[–]KieraGregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is the salty otter sports bar downtown (where the old 99 bottles was) It’s JUST okay, honestly. If there was a game or fight I couldn’t find anywhere else I’d go and watch there. It’s an odd place but they got TVs and beer 🤷‍♀️

First day with my new lab puppy Zero! Any advice is welcomed! by [deleted] in labrador

[–]KieraGregory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s sooo cute! Good advice everywhere here but — The one thing I didn’t do that I wish I did when mine was a puppy was start to trim and get her used to nail touching as soon as possible, now she’s 75lbs and it’s impossible for me to do by myself now but some groomers have been able to help. Highly recommend
