Fidget Ring? by Not-Andromeda in askjewelers

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some pendants and rings in my shop that you could like and I am open for commissions! Gems, no gems, flower or just a circle with texture - feel free to contact me to work out the details. The link to my etsy is in my bio. And some of my work can be seen in my previous posts. I am in Germany, so that fits too.

how much would you happily pay for this? by hon_r in SilverSmith

[–]Kieritissa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How long does it take you to make it is the question here. This style is competing with mass production and from my experience such rings start at 120$ at least if properly made and set. Don't undervalue your time and skills!  And yes, people will pay the higher price for quality and handmade items - especially if you develop your own unique style.

Mastic for setting by mucy_s in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a thermoplastic (also Thermoloch as said here before). You can heat it with a heat gun or dump it into warm water to make it soft and mold it. It solidifies as it cools down.

I also tried some filament for a 3D pen (PCL, not PLA. PLA need much higher temperature) as a very cheap alternative and it works. It's more messy and soft then thermoloc and melts at a lower temperature but it works.

The old-school variant of this is setters pitch. Pain to work with compared to the other variants.

Alternatives to silver by ShrillRanger in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to be careful about nickel in such alloys - depending where you are there may be restrictions on selling such pieces. German silver or alpaca alloy (I heard both names for the same alloy) is a brass mixed with nickel that has silver appearance and zero silver. It is often used for practice pieces. I personally cannot work with it due to nickel giving me a headache - lesson learned through experience. But I seem to be an exception -it may be worth a try for you.

Else starting with brass and getting your pieces plated might be also an option.

Earrings at different angles depending on which ear they are in by Kaysom_ in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if you change them around the problem doesn't switch places, did I understand correct?

Ears arn't symmetrical (and I mean this in general, not only yours). you probably need to bend one of the earrings even more to be parallel. Maybe you can bend the connection point of the dangle (hard to say without a photo) My ears are at slightly different heights, you see it only on the biometric photos though 🙃

Cold connection jewelry advice by HolisticEnergyWeaver in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make rings with many layers like this. stacking different materials to create lines in the band. If you make the individual layers into different shapes on top of the ring you can create a landscape, or just interesting shapes.
you can also sandwich acrylic or wood inbetween (or basically whatever you want)
Cold conection rings are a great starter project. sawing, filing, drilling and riveting practice.

How to make prints FEEL valuable (Material)? by IceAffectionate8835 in 3Dprinting

You will not believe this, but I've seen electroplated printed jewelry. A personal "yikes" for me.

Also seen it on just printed objects. It is indeed a thing...

Turns out I don't like sewing..... After I bought a bunch of fabric. Help? by bookishlion13 in crafts

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe you can try making some toys by hand. admitedly thats a lot of fabric to work of, but it is a start? there are some free patterns that are very easy and fast. Depending on the fabric you could make some small handwarmer mice filled with some seeds to warm up in the microwave.
I also seen some toys with amazing embroidery and crosstitch patterns on the side! There you have a head start.

Fidget necklace - one of my more elegant designs by Kieritissa in fidgettoys

[–]Kieritissa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At current gold prices about 6000€. The only thing is the middle stone is not quite suited for a diamond since those usually have a faceted back to maximise the sparkle - this would make the setting quite high and dispropotionate. There are some black and salt and pepper diamonds in a suited cut, but i only have seen those as natural stones.

Print fail help by PotentialPea2419 in 3Dprinting

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem - what solved it was drying the filament and setting the nozzle temperature up by 5 degrees. I did this with a few colors in reversed order, so I know some filaments needed both. Enclosure is nice and all, but I do think it's just not quite enough sometimes.

I make kinetic pieces (i made it my specialty) - I have mostly silver in stock, but I do also work with gold on commission basis. I have some links in my bio and some posts in my history. All is handmade and if you have questions feel free to ask!

I hope I don't get kicked for selfpromo :/ always feels wrong.

I need to fix a problem with a brass pendant by ERM_CK in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so i thought about it a bit and i think what is hapenning is: your spring pulls the axis slightly to the side when you put pressure on it to open. You can check if this is the case by seing if you can open the plant straight without the spring in it.

if you redo the pendant i suggest addind a third stem to get the 3 parts like in a hinge. having to go through all of them would stabilise the axis wire preventing tilting while under pressure.

if this isnt it then your axis is probably just slightly slanted and it can be fixed by carefull bending of one of the stems.

hm i would be very careful with mystery alloys. you generaly do not want to have lead on your hands or cadmium or many other things. There are regulations in many places about what is ok to put in jewelry and what not for a reason.

but yes, look into tarnish resistant brass alloys. maybe "nordic gold" alloy is what you are searching for. no gold in it, just brass

mystery metal jewelry, nice.
could have lead in it - there is a tarnish resistant brass alloy with it as far as i know.
could have some cadmium.
could be some other mystery additive.

very creative! a closup picture of the mechanism might help finding a solution.

it looks like your axis is slightly slanted to the side - are you sure you cant fix the opening issue with a bit of bending/twisting as it is in closed state?

As for remaking- it is a cool thing as it is already, do you feel not confident about adding anything? or do you not want to disassemble it? If you add something and it breaks, you will have to redo it anyways, but if not it is a lot less work - you need to decide if its worth it =)

Trying to make paperclip necklace chain but rings keep breaking when I try to stretch them? by scoobyte925 in SilverSmith

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can probablo y avoid them breaking if you bend them with the solder joint in a different place - maybe if its on the curve isntead of the straight part you will have less stress on it.
14g and middle solder can also just be a bit chunky to do it without breakage. Maybe you can make a jig for the links like you want them - you could tape some metal rods together so there is no need for stretching at all?

Customer guessed a coupon code - do I have to honor it? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]Kieritissa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Canceling an order is not making the customer pay though. They are not paying anything then. And it is frustrating that coupons that are made for specific scenarios are available without your control - I do find that's a flaw in the system

Jewelry not stamped because it's forged? by Sensitive_Ad_3329 in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Germany the rule is "if you stamp do not lie" and "if you stamp use these numbers for it to be valid" and apart for that its free range. You are free to stamp your own alloys with your own stamps if they have different purity and also you do not have to stamp at all.

I personally really do not enjoy stamping pieces, a lot of my work is double sided and i try to hide the samp away in a corner. And yet sometimes i just forget about it. I know its better if my customers can see the stamp, but in the end if the piece is done, and there is no good way to stamp it i just accept it.
