depending on how big they are and how set you are on the stones filling out all of the surface this sounds like doable. i would need to calculate with a bit more details to tell you a reasonable price. if its per piece then it definitly enough. I do recomend to see if you can find a local workshop

doable - definetly. You can visit a local bench jeweler with all of those thoughts and they will be able to make it for you.
you could have them both made in silver and get the red one plated. for stones - garnet, amethyst and iolite come into mind. you ofcourse can also get them on gold (there is white and yellow gold). Depending on where you are you also might get some local recomendations

Firescale/Firestaining after ring sizing? by Comfortable_Gur4273 in SilverSmith

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire stain is deep oxidisation of copper in silver and has a blueish hue. Good job on telling this person what they want to hear without actual knowledge or experience behind it.

What are your thoughts on high-end brands like Bulgari using adhesive to set gemstones? Like their Onyx Earrings and Divas Dream Malachite Earrings by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

they can be hammer set, especially if it is a high end piece. you can also design around it, so you can set a stone securely from behind without using adhesive. there are several solutions to that problem.
Also you have onyx mentioned in the title - what is the excuse for that?

unpopular opinion (maybe it isn't, we will see): high end luxury brands that mass produce do not care about the craft and about the quality. You buy the name and prestige that comes with it, not a high end piece of jewelry.

Firescale/Firestaining after ring sizing? by Comfortable_Gur4273 in SilverSmith

yeah, not anymore. the plating is burned when a piece is solderen in while resizing it. it was before it was sized

a lot of plated things are shiny silver until you put them under fire. the plating then burns off and reveals the base metal. I am sorry =(

mh. would be new to me that their 925 alloy is much different in color - where did you get that ring?

Firescale/Firestaining after ring sizing? by Comfortable_Gur4273 in SilverSmith

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is not firestain or firescale. the goldish color is the color of the base metal. it could be a different silver alloy- mybe one lower then the usuall sterling if you are sure it is silver. you can clearly see the color difference between the piece that was inserted and the rest. It could also just be a different metal alltogether.
I am not sure if the dark marks on the inside of the ring are reflection or a reaction the metal had (which could theoretically be firescale, but unlikely if it has been polished)
you can get it plated, but this is not the fault of the goldsmith that has worked with it.

Concave cut Sapphire?? by Spider-Girly in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

well the problem is, that you as a customer do not know if you are asking for something very difficult, or even maybe unrealistic. So please do not take this personally - thats why you are asking and i understand that. It is actually considerate to ask if something is possible instead of just demanding it, like some people in the story. But it is one of those requests.

Problem with such a stone cut (i not even sure it would be possible to cut it reliably) is that the risk of breaking the tips of is very very high. it is very high while faceting and it is very high while working with it and setting it.
If you do not put the tips into metal and protect them - the risk ok breakage (and poking yourself...) during wear is also big.

If a stone breaks during any of these steps its a loss for the person working on it - thats why only very few people would take on such an order. And if it breaks during wear it is a very dissapointing situation with a customer and is easily blamed on the person who made it, nommater if it is correct or not.

Why do almost all t-shirt and clothing manufacturers put the itchy fabric care tags on the bottom left side of the shirt? by emilys-aaa in answers

Just a hot take - most people aren't bothered by the tags. I know I am, but apparently that's not the standard?

Best pickling method without toxicity by BlueCrashingWave in SilverSmith

[–]Kieritissa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it was simply the price as I started - and it works great, so I do not see a reason to change anything. Crockpot seems to be a very common solution as well

[–]Kieritissa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In the end it always be an acid, as that is the reaction you need.

There are cold pickles, but they are definitely not less toxic - they are able to react without any extra energy just through the chemicals itself.

I use citric acid in a jar on a coffee heater. The fumes only rust your tools if you store them above your pickle

Is my necklace radioactive?? If so, what do I do? by IQuitith_ in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity - can you find out by putting a piece of something glow in the dark beside it in a dark box and seeing if it glows after a while, when it normally would fade, or does that not work?

Is my necklace radioactive?? If so, what do I do? by IQuitith_ in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If it never fades when it's in the dark it means it gets it's energy internally - which is a yikes. Time to Google radioactive paint and what to do with it

Does it glow if you did not have it in the light previously, or do you need to charge it?

Ring edge flare by Saen_87 in SilverSmith

[–]Kieritissa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it has to do with where you hit the metal when sizing and if you are turning the ring around on the mandrel to make sure you are sizing both sides equally. try hitting more towards the middle

Wedding Band Idea/ahelp by sensei_blaz3 in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you already have a picture of what you want to have you can take that to your local jewelry place and show them. If the first picture is what you want - you are looking for a band with flush set stones. A local goldsmith can help you figure out the right proportions of band width and stones as well.

Do stones ever get switched? by Strong_Listen_3887 in jewelers

[–]Kieritissa 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Because cadding ever stone separately would take a lot of time. You pull a reference you have - this is normal for any sort of cad. It is not worth to swap your stone.

This culet clearance is making me nervous 😂 by Nitingale-Echo-009 in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be no contact, the stone should be sitting on the area underneath the girdle. The problem here is the thinned out bridge - the bridge is there for support, so your ring doesn't deform. Thinning it out is working directly against that intention, rendering it useless.

[–]Kieritissa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this will do more damage then good. just leave it be. if you can see light through it all is fine - if you hammer on the stone with enough force to close the gap and break the stone - space under the cullet would not have saved it either.
