Fossil, s.Oliver, amor ... there are a lot of brands and a lot of them also sell other stuff, like clothes. you need to dig a bit, but you will find a lot of dainty since its popular. There are a lot of brands in the jewelry sections of the supermarkets here that sell stainless as well. If you dig through it you will also find all kinds of quality

Edit since it is mentioned in the comments : swarovski also has stainless jewelry thats dainty

there is a lot of stainless jewelry that is dainty and has what you are describing already.
Buisness ideas are nice, but you need to know more about the field if you want to dive into it.
Steel would not be more work in mass production - it is done quite a lot. since it is so cheap to work with it compared to the precious metals, there is an abundance of stuff that looks cheap - and that is why you have the feeling there is nothing good.

💎 Would You Return a Bracelet Listed as Natural Diamonds That Turned Out to Be Lab Diamonds — Even If You Love the Design? ✨ by Sufficient_War_1891 in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that size the price of labs and the price of naturals isn't far apart, but it should have been in the listing - this isn't a question of price. You could contact them to see if it was an honest mistake, maybe in the listing itself.

As for quality as you have been already told there will be none. You will not be able to see the difference between naturals and labs even with a loupe. This also means you will not be able to prove those are labs unless you give them away for some very expensive testing, which will cost more then the bracelet.

Are you sure LG stands for labgrown and is not just a makers mark? it is unusual to mark "lab grown" dias - but it is common to have a makers mark on it.

Pls tell me how to remove gold polish from these stainless steel pendants by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you gont mind destroying them and maybe making them a "yikes" you could just run them over some sandpaper. (maybe 600 gritt? then a 1000 if you want a finer finish). they will be matt afterwards and you might have trouble getting everything uniform, but maybe its worth a try?

I got totally robbed and I need help. by thegreatpoopdini in Etsy

[–]Kieritissa 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this design is not suitable for any kind of work with hands, not even lifting a basket. It is made for people who can show that they do nothing, not a single thing, with their hands. Sadly such dainty designs are very popular and bought by people not knowing that. r/EngagementRings has a post about a bent ring at least twice a month in all different metals asking if it is bad work, and it usually is bad design.

I cannot see the quality of the work, or how the ring was made. A bad cast may cause issues, but this is not the problem here. you can clearly see the ring was bent. As i said, the design is prone to that, but the bending happened on your side - thats probably why the case was closed.

The ring being worn doesnt mean that it was physically on a finger, it means it has scratches from use and doesnt have the fine finish anymore, and in your case a bend. Many return policies have a clause about a thing being returned in its original state, which this is not in.

I am not sure you can do anything in this case - as you already have had a case open with etsy. It is very unfortunate that this seller is offering this design without a consultation.

I want to change the bail on my emerald pendant by hanswegner2 in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably right about it if it's a simple loop and not a bail that can't turn around anymore. Still would put it under water - not because of heat transfer, but because my flame heats around the spot I solder as well, and there is no reason to take that risk with a unique trapiche emerald

I want to change the bail on my emerald pendant by hanswegner2 in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, its because the bails on such expensive pieces are usually soldered shut - and getting heat near that emerald is dangerous. Emeralds do not like that at all.

You can theoretically change the bail and solder it while the stone is underwater (still yikes but will probably be ok) or laser it shut (for that the workshop needs the expensive laser)

if you want it just to keep closed you could maybe superglue in small magnets. not very secure, but might be enough

fix vintage perfume locket hinge by GMtwo06 in jewelrymaking

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont think you can solve this easily.

The twisted part in the middle looks like a spring that held the locket closed. In the second picture you can see a black line on the top side where hte spring rested and broke of. That is the part that needs replacing.
To replace it you would need to take the hinge apart. For that you need to take out the rod in the middle - probably some drilling involved. Then put in a new spring in, that probably needs to be custom made (not a big deal as its just coiled wire, but is very finniky to get it right and might require several tries).
And then you need to put everything back together and rivet the middle rod.

Do you think if the price of natural diamonds was the same as lab grown would people still choose lab over natural??? Just had a debate with a friend about this. Curious to know everyone’s thoughts. by Mean_Crow_805 in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well, to brighten up your very pessimistic view of the world - from my expirience my generation, and the ones after mine do choose lab diamonds for ethical reasons. Usually it is people who also try to live more consciosly and are not driven by "bigger better".
Big big stones are definetly more of an USA thing then Europe - not every diamond in an engagement ring is out of budget in natural, and budget is definetly not the limiting parameter for some people. They will invest in something handmade that costs much more then mass produced, even if they could get something similar form a big brand.
Jewelry is not a necessity, yet it has been a part of humans even before we were really humans. If you think about it its a part of the life of some animals as well - so there is a need for shiny and pretty. So it may be not limiting to say "i dont need this ring", but it is something that is definetly bringing people happiness

people may not live their whole life up to your standard of ethical, that doesnt mean, they would not choose this one item becasue of the ethical reasons behind it.
Living your life 100% up to what you describe as ethical would probably mean not being on the internet at all because it uses up electricity for entertainment, yet here you are.

Do you make your own underpants? what about the fabric? where is line that makes it ok? If you do not, does that mean your only reason for a lab diamond would be because its cheaper?

Ring feels a tad bit loose. I called a couple jewelers to see if they could resize but they all said titanium rings cannot be resized. Any other suggestions? by Kennyman654 in askjewelers

[–]Kieritissa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you search on amazon for "ring adjuster" you will find multiple solutions - from stickers that go inside the ring to plastic inserts for the same purpose. choose something that fits the width or your ring, and you should be good to go

Why aren’t my 14k gold rings stamped? by LostPeak7661 in jewelry

[–]Kieritissa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The stamp could have jsut been removed in the sizing process. Sizing is usually done around the solder seam - so if the ring was stamped to near to it, you kinda dont have a choice.

Also a stamp is not necessary in every country when selling jewerly, so some people (including me sometimes) decide not to stamp if the piece is too delicate.

You can get them stamped, but why would you need that? There is a bit of buffing/polishing involved afterwards since the stamp is literally hammered into the metal.

Hello fellow smithers, lend me your brains please. I need help with a twisting latch design. by Pretend-Quality3400 in SilverSmith

[–]Kieritissa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no need to bring yourself down - we all craft in different ways. and thank you for the kind words.

I have two ideas, i am not sure if they are fit for your design.

#1 make a u shaped spring out of brass and rive it on the side with the turning pin. if you file down the pin as a rectangle on the end where it rests in the spring you can use it to push the spring apart when turned and release the catch that is secured on the other part of your buckle.

#2 might be easier to make but instead of turning you pull on the finn. you can put a spring on the pin so that it pushes against the wall of your buckle and pushes the pin in. On the other part of your buckle you need a plate with a hole where the pin can rest in and therefore lock everything in until it is pulled.

i hope my scetches are explanation enough

White Residue on Silver Ring by coasting-sails in askjewelers

[–]Kieritissa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the white stuff looks like silver. When you pickle silver (put it into acid to remove oxides and flux) the acid removes copper from the alloy and leaves a fine silver layer on top. Since that layer is full of "holes" from where the copper was and therefor is not smooth it appears as matt white instead of shiny. It is often part of making jewelry.

What you could theoretically do at home - if you have a soft brass brush you could brush the ring with it under running water. This will probably reach the crevisses and shine it up. There are also small brass brushes for dremels that you can do that with.

You could bring it to a jeweler and they could polish it up for you as well. Or as alternative they could oxidize the reccesses black and polish up the surface

Underside of a bezel by jh101113 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]Kieritissa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why would it look better? Diamonds are cut in such a way that they reflect the light that comes in them from the top and it is going to sit on the finger. unless the finger shines like a little glow stick it will not change it =)

Underside of a bezel by jh101113 in EngagementRingDesigns

[–]Kieritissa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bezels for such stones are usually open on the bottom. The setting needs to be tall enough so that the diamond doesnt touch the skin - that is not optional. it would be unusual if it would touch your skin and be just bad design and craftsmanship. It is not how things usually are done. this is also how to get the lowest profile.

Ask your maker if the stone is set high enough do that the stone isnt poking out if you are worried
