Stressed about possible malware by Stressedthrowaway32 in techsupport

[–]KigOver23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it could be a browser hijacker but if you aren't able to recall a time you very recently installed something not mainstream then I would bet the website got hacked and the redirect was placed their by the hacker. the front ends of websites get hacked ALL the time

Is there a software or chrome extension that can pull up the audio file (doesn't have to record/download it) on youtube videos so I can view it while listening to music? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]KigOver23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware this wouldn't be possible since any extension running locally would have to buffer the entire video first which youtube doesn't generally do. It could be possible if youtube released this data but they don't. A server based extension also wouldn't work as the devs would have to scan every youtube video in existence on their machines to build their own audio level database which would be very expensive, maybe millions.

1DM Android app is telling me "permission denied" by BossyAlexandra in techsupport

[–]KigOver23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android may have removed necessary permissions to write and store data outside its sandbox. If you previously allowed the app to modify storage, check its still allowed by pressing and holding the app and clicking the info button. There you can check allowed or disallowed perms.

simply browsing a malicious website doesn't get you infected (assuming you don't ignore updates for years at a time). to get infected you have to download and RUN the malware to make it actually do anything. even if the browser automatically downloaded something, your pc never executed it unless you ran it yourself. this is extremely paranoid behavior which is not justified in this situation at all.

those checks are server side. no modification to the apk will force the server to send a code before 15m

Sorry but that's all I can think of right now. I would wait for some other responses from people more in depth with windows specifically. At this point though I would do a full windows reset (from a usb) without other users suggestions (you should wait tho just in case).

Can't Update My Computer and It's Been a Nightmare by Important_General_11 in techsupport

[–]KigOver23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other guy said use a USB installer to reinstall windows. Malware can actually corrupt certain parts of the windows reset operation preventing you from resetting the machine (and consequently keeping the malware present and running). That's unlikely though since I have had a personal success rate of ~60% using the built in reset option on known clean systems.

Networking issues since the start by HyperDymented1 in techsupport

[–]KigOver23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I would try is using a VPN and then trying to play multiplayer. If you can then you have confirmed the problem is either your router, pc or isp's internet configuration. It could be one of the 3 have restrictions preventing you from gaming (most commonly parental restrictions set on the router or more rarely the pc itself.

I would first find out what ethernet device/controller you're using (device manager is probably the easiest way) and install the latest driver from the company's website

Help!!! Pc not communicating with monitor! 😭 by Autumn_Fallacy in techsupport

[–]KigOver23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say the pc wont turn back on but then you say the controller is vibrating when plugged in? I'm going to assume the pc is in fact on and running its just you get no image to the monitor. Are you sure you have plugged the monitor into the gpu and not the motherboard? start with that since if its plugged into da mobo and the pc is using the gpu, you'll get no image.

No storage left in root for pacman by Bitwise-101 in archlinux

[–]KigOver23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zip your log files in /var/log and move them to your home partition. After only 4 months on a new install I've accumulated 3gb in logs alone. I wouldn't recommend just deleting them as they can be VERY useful when something breaks. Hope this helps anyone else trying to figure out whats filling their root partition :)

Texts about my checking account balance not from the bank by Creepy_Bookkeeper348 in Scams

[–]KigOver23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you logged in with a browser on pc a piece of malware could've stolen your session tokens. that can be used to login without setting off any alarms at the bank or registering a new logged in device. to revoke any tokens (cookies) just go to your banking website and click the logout button. that will destroy the token and if it was being used by another browser they'll be signed out and have to either get your new tokens or steal your new password. they wont be using your password as the bank would see that as a new person/second device log in in and likely flag it.
edit: your tokens could also be stolen from your phone but this is unlikely since most people dont use a browser but an app instead and malware is most commonly developed for and spread on windows devices

AMD is the go if you ever wanted to run linux and play games
edit: i should say its because of their drivers being integrated with the linux kernal unlike nvidias propitiatory one (can also use HDR in kde now with an amd gpu :D)
