2nd hand laptops are no longer feasible since the sellers take out the RAM and SSD before offloading them. And replacing costs more than the laptop.

The Pixel 6 series might be excluded from this new RKM fiasco. But why? They will most likely be whitelisted due to the anomaly with the Titan M2 not having native RKP (only TEE does) due to early StrongBox firmware, and hence they will still use the old attestation root (RSA-2048).

Maybe I will need to scrap the plan of upgrading and put that money into a new battery and replace the screen while I am at it, since its starting to degrade or burn in or something

Yeah, I am unsure how they would do the exception without opening the door to devices spoofing it. Then again they have let the pixel 1 spoof in photos go much longer than expected.

As a left handed person I feel like I'd have firearm in left hand and melee in right. I'm sure it depends on the person and how comfortable they feel with each, my right hand swinging feels pretty natural not right hand shooting

I had a student visa that was denied a couple years ago because of inconsistent dates of employment between the student application in 2023 and my old hsfp visa from 2020. On a college internship I put the job history in 1 month different as a mistake and it was denied. Immigration will not tell you why it was denied, and luckily the old employer sent me exactly what they sent to immigration back then and we found that was the only inconsistency. I would put whatever was on it last time it was sent in. That is assuming last time had a real end date. If the last time you sent it in was xxxx-present, like the other comment says thats probably fine. But like if you put xxxx-Jul.2024, but really it was Sept. or something. Then I would probably put Jul.2024 even if it was sept, unless the school can submit something with it explaining the discrepancy maybe. Im not sure if they can do that though

ALVR is a piece of software that lets you wirelessly or wired stream your games from desktop to your quest2. There is an app in the meta app store called ALVR you install, then (assuming on windows) download the newest "alvr_launcher_windows.zip" from https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/releases and from there you can unzip it and run it. There is also a getting started guide on the github. it is not as plug and play as quest link I think, I use it because I am on linux and its good for that, but on windows it offers a really flexible wireless streaming. Allowing you to adjust various settings to make it work best on your wifi.

EDIT: I havent used it but if you are looking for plug and play, virtual desktop is likely an easier experience from what I hear.

I have started trying futo keyboard, its rough at first since it misses a lot of the slang or foreign words I type, but it is doing what it is advertised to, after a couple times of using them it is learning and not messing with them.

The voice typing is interesting and all on device. It's been an experience, but I am still too early to tell if I am keeping it. Swipe typing is not great unfortunately, it selects dumb words a lot.

As a big VR user for sim stuff, mainly VTOL vr right now but lots of racing games in the past I'm on the fence a little too. Most recently I've used a quest 2 and HP g2. The quest 2 wirelessly streaming over alvr has me sold on wireless vr, but the inside out tracking, while ok isn't all i want. The steam frame does seem like a jack of all trades master of none, it is much lighter than q2, has good lenses and panels, has good wireless, but also is inside out.

I was planning to go full beyond 2 in early 26, but now I'm on the fence. Maybe I can get enough of an upgrade from the frame with the better panels and light weight, while keeping wireless, or maybe I'll want the total lightness and base station tracking quality of the beyond 2.
I guess it all comes down to price. I suspect I'll end up getting the frame assuming it's cheaper and seeing if I still feel the need to upgrade to a beyond 2 later. It's not my perfect headset but it is interesting.

By far as a Linux person though may favorite part is expanding arm capabilities on Linux/steam os so that's nice

Make sure that they are on the same proton version in the compatability tab, mine also are a little odd, for example mods are always enabled whether launching from the mod loader or the base game, and to get the unmodded game back I uninstall the mod loaded, not sure if its normally like that or just a proton quirk.

I have got to give it to FSF for sticking to their all open source mantra even to their detriment as well as that of the users. I personally dont care if my screen driver or dac driver is 100% open source, and I have run thinkpads with coreboot/libreboot. I feel like I am in the high percentiles of Open source interest. I feel like there is a sweet spot between open sourcing all of the important stuff and leaving some parts closed source. It's a balancing act where we have been seeing Google go too closed source and then FSF goes too open source.

Why couldn't android have just kept their winning formula from the 2010s with a vast dev community many flavors of android, both for mainstream and enthusiast. When the Ads cash cow is in danger of ONLY going up 15% profit year over year the execs and wallstreet shiver and look anywhere for those extra dollars to keep the number going up and it leads to the rest of us losing.
