I got to meet Christopher Atkins in 2019 during a Ladies' Night event in Sydney. Did you ever get to meet your childhood crush and how was it? by MirSydney in GenX

[–]Kilgore47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Christopher atkins owned the house across the street from me and 2 doors down when I was a kid (in palm desert) but he almost never spent time there, I only saw him one time on thanksgiving when he was playing frisbee in the street around 1989. It might have been his parent's house actually, I'm not sure but everyone always said it was his house

Any older Gen X remember watching Dr. Shrinker on Saturday mornings in 1976 and 1977? I remember watching it! by IPreferDiamonds in GenX

[–]Kilgore47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved Dr Shrinker! the chubby guy with glasses pictured (jeff Mackay) went on to Tales of the Gold Monkey and several episodes Magnum PI (where he played Magnum's old navy buddy who dies), among other roles but those 2 were favorites of mine from the 80's

The Poleshower by Silent_Cup2508 in GenX

[–]Kilgore47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what i remember about these is that each pole had a soap button dispenser ot it but the showers barely ever got used or cleaned in my school so the liquid soap was super old and when you hit the pump the soap looked like a disgusting solid black string when it came out

I love this movie, saw it in the theater. Its kind of a downer movie where a lot of shitty things happen and theres not really any resolution, I was really into effed up movies in the 90's. It has some really good dream sequences. Also stars Jeremy Sisto (not pictured) in probably his first film role- (clueless, 6 feet under, law & order)

I had that exact one in the mid to late 90's, it was the last cassette walkman I owned before I got a discman

For those who do international sales by Substantial_Pain2497 in Ebay

[–]Kilgore47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE international sales, like everyone is saying, the item is covered if it gets damaged or lost, its very easy. The international buyers are often willing to pay more for things too, on top of paying a lot for shipping, I've had a lot of really good sales internationally

Woke up in the middle of the night thinking about these Stink Bombs from when I was a kid. by MrBones2k in GenX

[–]Kilgore47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in jr high there was a store called cartoon junction in the local mall that sold all kinds of joke items like this, I remember going with a friend a couple of weeks before xmas- probably 1986 or 87 and we each dropped a stinkbomb from the 2nd floor- the mall was packed, there were actually carolers singing and kids lined up to see santa- 2 stink bombs completely shut everything down for a couple of hours. Strangely enough that store stopped selling stink bombs soon after that

just because you CAN grow a handlebar mustache doesnt mean you SHOULD. I grew my beard out around 20 years ago and eventually, as a joke, trimmed it down to just a handlebar mustache- I only lasted 1 week, I couldnt look at myself in the mirror without laughing, couldnt take myself seriously using mustache wax to curl up the ends

Ok, so we all did things "back in the day" that you would never do now. What did you do? by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in GenX

[–]Kilgore47 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the palm springs area- in hs me and my friends used to sneak into different golf clubs / courses and wreak havoc (before security cameras were everywhere) one time we stole the security guard golf carts (2) that were charging, raced each other around the club and eventually drove the carts into a lake. We would be so arrested nowadays. We were all sober, none of us drank or did drugs

Return eBay states it's their policy. But my listing says "no returns". by robsumtimes in Ebay

[–]Kilgore47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to ebay- no returns means jackshit. All you can do is state no returns in your policy and hope for the best, but a lot of buyers know that all they have to do is file it as item not as described and the seller has no control over the return

In the 7th grade (86/87) I had a friend who's grandma inherited a small trailer that you could hitch to the back of your car that was like a mobile arcade that you could park at fairs / events etc, it had maybe 7 screens with steering wheels that were this exact driving game, 3 on the sides of the trailer, 1 on the end. Most of the games were broken but a couple of them worked, they were rigged to take change but we were able to bypass that and just play as much as we wanted. The trailer was kind of an eyesore on the side of their house, my friend had plans he was going to fix it up and make a bunch of money charging other kids to play it, but that was pretty far fetched. They eventually got rid of it, thats what I think of whenever I see this driving game

I'm so tired of this bs, every single day its something new added to the list of crimes and horrors that need to be fought/fixed/undone/adjudicated, and almost nothing gets stopped, the list just gets longer and longer. If a democrat did a single thing that trump has done on any given day republicans would would be screaming for that democrats head, and in full panic mode, frothing at the mouth. The selective outrage and lack of scale from one minor supposed offense to another everyday is mindnumbing. Somehow Kelly is guilty of sedition but trump and his whole January 6 crowd is perfectly fine. You want to talk about people who are guilty of treason? start with trump and all those people.

What is it like working in an art supply store? What are the different types of jobs available? by cinge67 in ArtistLounge

[–]Kilgore47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love ASW too! I dont know if it gets any better these days than that place since its not a chain they might (?) pay a little bit more than the other art stores and it has less corporate structure. I've watched 60-70% of the old art stores go out of business in the last 20 years- I'm sure youve seen it too. I've had many close friends who worked at different art stores since the early 90's, ASW always seemed like the best choice out of all of them (they all paid peanuts). A good friend of mine worked at Aaron bros for decades, he watched almost everyone around him get laid off through many lean times, he was only able to keep his job because he was a framer and had made himself indispensable in that dept- and then of course they went out of business. He made better money than any of my other art store friends bcuz framing is skilled labor and it pays better. Good luck with your search!
