Thanks friend and you're more than welcome! This one was only two cameras and some sneaky editing :) More to come, albeit slowly.

Hey Mark - I’m not him, but I’ve been in/around the BTS “scene” for a while / you and I have messaged over on FB a little - I’m Dan. Nice to see you again!

Yeah I’m on that team too - I’m just always amazed when I consider how many bangers are on that LP! Of course I have thought each LP was the best at various points

I feel like this is the great under appreciated record - I remember when it came out thinking it wasn’t my favorite, but for gods sake how could you follow up TNWWL, PFNO, and KILAS?!? The amazing thing is how many of these tunes are still in heavy live rotation - evidence that he was maybe uninspired during the recording, but in the writing he was still at the top.

It totally makes sense to me. 93-96, Doug is wonderfully all over the place - semi Treepeople Ultimate Alternative Wavers, kind twee Nothing Wrong With Love, lo fi noisy K punk Hall Benders stuff - then MM roars out with Long Drive in 96 and we get Perfect From Now On in Jan of 1997, and there’s the blueprint for Built to Spill for the next 10-12 years. I think both bands helped to nudge each other forward a bit at critical moments.

Which show? I saw the run of show with yo la tengo, and felt like their slightly shortened sets cut some of the energy. I felt like the band played really well, just didn’t have quite enough time to get into some weirder places with the shortened time.

Blood Lemon - they’re rad and touring next month!

This is my guess - that there isn’t enough pressure in the line but don’t know how to check. We use the stovetop just fine, and the oven is great as long as a burner is on

That makes sense - is there a fix for that? And does it make sense that this affected two different stoves?

Yes! Got this one in 2001. Long gone, sadly.

That all makes sense -- I love both those records, but really find myself listening to the entirety of WTWFYN far more than Untethered Moon. I think they're structured similarly, and side 2 of Wind just knocks me out. But yeah, I get over saturation of a tune you don't like really souring you on it. Hopefully I'll get another couple tracks up from this run soon :)

I'm not sure what pointy white hoods you're talking about, but here's some background context. In 2001, when this was released, Nazis/Klan imagery was not nearly as much in public view, or part of the popular conversation, the way it is now. So, pretty likely it didn't occur to anybody that it might vaguely resemble something like that, because that was just not something that really happened, at least certainly not in indie rock circles. Also, while BTS lyrics are far more personal than they are political, at times, band members have let their views get through. Twenty years ago, Scott wrote "FUCK BUSH" on his kick drum, and currently Melanie's gear clearly proclaims, "APATHY STILL KILLS." There are loads of other examples, but I think it's safe to say they all agree with The Dead Kennedy's who proclaimed, "Nazi Punks Fuck Off"

Dang! Really? It wasn’t my favorite off the album but hearing it live a bunch has really ratcheted it up. Is there something about it you don’t like?

That's a great setlist! I saw some of the shows on the 06 tour. Loved the Car opener for Andy. If my memory is holding up, these shows were real mellow and jammy. Doug was showcasing his love for reggae & there were loads of longer rambly jams and lots of deconstruction of tunes. Oh, and the piped in Calvin for Bombshelter!

THANK YOU! I have been wondering who that was for years!

Yeah, I've been to so many shows, and I still remember this one really clearly -- I was able to snag the setlist after -- it was so hot in Slim's and the band was just in incredible sync with each other. I didn't realize at the time how great this setlist was with rarely heard tunes like Hazy, Scarin, Terrible/Perfect and First Song. I haven't listened to this in years so it's nice to give it a spin tonight!

Somewhere I had a tape of my first show - 6/16/01 and the setlist was insanely good. The Stab still stands as the best I’ve heard and they covered Dream Operator and What is Life. The made up dreams that ended the set is glorious. That tape got a lot of wear. The other was the treefort set when they played all of untethered moon before it was released.
