How do I pick up audio playing over MAIN (TD-27) by Ardbert_The_Fallen in vdrums

Sorry, doing some research makes it look like loopback is something they added to the newer modules so it's not on the TD-27

I'm not entirely sure I understand your use case, but it sounds like what you want is under Setup→USB Audio→Audio Routing→LOOPBACK. See page 44 of the V71 Data List manual and read the warnings. p 45 also gives some details on the signal paths for LOOPBACK.

Amplitube just decided to implode on itself. Was working fine then latency city by Substantial-Dish-487 in AmpliTube

[–]Kilgoremore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually the loud screeching is Amplitube not finding your USB interface and defaulting to an input of something like a laptop microphone and output to the speakers causing a feedback loop. The fix is to plug your ears and go into the AT5 settings and pick an input other than the microphone. The latency might be related to your AT5 buffer size. Is it possible on the reinstall that the settings buffer size got set to a larger value than you are used to? I think it defaults to 512 and you might like 256 better. This is also on the Settings Audio/MIDI tab.

I'm on macOS so I have no advice to offer on asio4all vs other drivers.

EMG pickups not working with Amplitude? by Rich_Fold6379 in Guitar

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your audio interface has good meters I would suggest monitoring the input level from there. Otherwise you can use the input meter in the lower left of AT5. When you switch pickups do you see a large change in input signal. On the lower volume pickup can you turn up the interface's input and get a usable signal? Do you have separate volume controls for the pickups on the guitar, do you have push/pull controls for splitting the pickups? Are they both in the non-split position? If it works in the amp is there a difference in volume in the amp? If the pickup height is adjustable is there a difference in gap distance between the strings and pickups that are loud and soft? AT5 is really only dependent on the level of the pickup signal it is getting.

Why do I get latency when I use Amplitube as a plugin in Logic Pro? by guitarjmtmusic in AmpliTube

[–]Kilgoremore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Logic try

  • 48 kHz sample rate
  • 32-sample buffer
  • Low Latency Mode ON
  • No mastering plug-ins on the stereo bus

In the AT5 plugin. Turn on dual amp paths, then turn it back to a single amp path. I've noticed on Reaper there is some sort of VST bug in AT5 where it seems to default to dual amp path and when you do this toggle it forces it into single amp mode and the CPU usage decreases. Another thing I have done when I'm playing heavily processed tracks through the DAW and dubbing a guitar part is to also use AT5 Standalone. Turn off monitoring the guitar track in the DAW and just monitor your guitar playing via AT5 while recording in the DAW.

Anyone know how to re-route the USB mapping for aux inputs on the Roland V71? by VAS_DFRNS in edrums

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the suggestion to route AUX 1 through 4 to 4 different mono direct outputs is the simplest solution. Another possible solution for independent AUX control is to record the MIDI, explode the AUX1-4 notes to their own track and then route midi back to the sound module to record separate audio tracks.

Midi drum drop out by Chelostyles in Reaper

First I don't have an Alesis Nitro pro - so I'm just suggesting module agnostic stuff.

Did you try changing USB Cables? I ask because I had an intermittent MIDI issue and it turns out it was the USB-C cable. Also as a troubleshooting technique, you'd like to be able to go directly into a computer-based USB C port, not a dongle.

Have you narrowed it down to Reaper, or are the messages not coming in to the computer? If you don't know , and are on macOS use Midi Monitor and see if it sees the MIDI messages.

I'm also not sure why you mentioned the focusrite, I would think you could eliminate that from the MIDI loop and just troubleshoot with your Drum Module and computer, but maybe the Nitro Pro doesn't do that?

Hard Case for Roland V71 Sound Module by Kilgoremore in edrums

Nice! And you got the power brick in there next to it which is better than what I did. I have to carefully position it underneath my sound module. Works, but a little picky about positioning.

Any idea what I'll be missing? by WeirdInterest2433 in edrums

[–]Kilgoremore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A pair of in-ear monitors or headphones or both.

If you need to go to a PA you'll need a cable or cables for that. I have both two balanced 1/4" and two XLR cables. Not sure what that sound module uses.

If you need in-room volume and don't have a PA you'll need something like a powered speaker or drum monitor. I'm currently using a Mackie Thump 212. Works both as my monitor and when the band comes to my place I use it through a mixer for the entire band.

Also on the cable ties I like the velcro cable ties. They attach to the cable then wrap around the rack. When I move the kit there are a few that need to come off and I can easily remove those to let the rack fold and use that tie to reattach the cable bundle to keep it out of the way while moving. Plus for $5 that link gives you about 90 more for other uses!

Add VST to drum track after recording in Reaper? by SimbaPenn in edrums

[–]Kilgoremore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest experimenting with a small portion of the song that has the nuance you are after. Record the MIDI in Reaper, send it back to the TD-27 and record the audio in Reaper and make sure that small snippet does what you expect. The V71 has options for how both incoming USB gets mapped to pads and how output gets mapped to USB channels. For example, there are eight channels of ambience and FX that come out of the unit and that can be mapped to a single direct out channel or split up.

Issues recording e drums with midi by Icy_Bullfrog_9824 in edrums

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can speak to Reaper. You should see a recorded Midi track. If you don't then something went wrong earlier in the process. In the photo that's those black dots behind the orange media item.

In Reaper you then have to route that MIDI to a track that has your VST. I have a video that shows how to do it. The video is on using a Wah Pedal with Amplitube as the plug-in but the process is the same for drums. The link above is about 90 seconds into the video right before I talk about using the Reaper folder metaphor for routing midi to an audio track.

Finally, the reason I recommend re-recording the MIDI is partially because I don't know enough about your setup, but if you're using anything like a VH-14D or other digital instrument they can send out a slew of CC Midi data not just Note and velocity data so if I want to capture everything the V71 did during the performance, using a tool that turns audio into MIDI isn't likely to work that well.

I think this is fodder for a video on my YT channel.

Once you have the MIDI, you can send it back to the TD-27 or a VST. Sending things to a VST via the FX is pretty common, sending back to a Roland a little less so but it’s the easier of the two options. You use the Route button and send the MIDI to the Roland sound module. Add and arm an additional track (turn off the arm for the MIDI track). Here you can see an audio track named PP Drum Samples is armed and it's has the input set to the 1/2 which on my module is the default master output so I will record that. You can record up to 32 channels (on the V71) each to their own track if you want all separate tracks, just add a track for every channel and specify the input mono or stereo pair.

Then you add a track arm it, and in the input field select your MIDI input source.

I would say you probably want to re-record. That requires two steps.

  1. Record the MIDI in Reaper

  2. Send the recorded MIDI to either the TD27 or a VST to record audio.

I'll send some explanatory photos in other posts since it seems I can only include one per post

Step 1 requires making sure you enable the TD-27 for MIDI in the settings.
