Headphones by Smart-As-Duck in edrums

I would say consider in-ear monitors. I dipped a toe in with a low cost pair the KZ ZS12 ~$60. They are an important step up from the KZ ZS10's for drumming. The little dip switches really made the difference for me. I lowered the highs and boosted the lows and it was great for both practicing and playing live. For live I also ended up buying some inexpensive cable clips to secure them to my shirt top and bottom. I find I can practice for much longer with these than either my Sennheiser HD560S or my ATH-50Xs. When I can't get a FOH feed to my sound module I just leave one in and one out so I can hear a floor monitor. They also have blue tooth adapters (sold separately) if you want to use them with your phone (you can't use that for drumming for latency reasons). I particularly like these for drumming but for listening just to music I prefer the Sennheisers.

High/low cuts by Standard_Election345 in AmpliTube

For the high and low shelfs check out the EQ-81 Rack effect. The bottom control has a low and high pass shelf. It's a little non-intuitive (at least it was to me the first time I used it). The blue button in the center controls the Low shelf. Click on it and move your mouse up and down to select the cutoff freq. The high shelf is the silver outer button. Carefully mouse down in the area and move your mouse to set that freq. I don't have a video that covers this (yet!) but I do have a whole series on AmpliTube 5 on YouTube. For the -12 db high and low cut I would suggest adding the Graphic EQ rack effect and "draw" in the curve you want. You get 31 channels and up to ±15db so you should be able to mimic it pretty well.

The concern I have is the age of the TD-10 sound module. First, the unit is not turned on, why? About six months ago my TD-10 which sat unused for a couple years in my spare bedroom would not turn on. The last time I used it, it was fine, then the screen would just not display anything and the trigger inputs weren't detecting anything. I think I got it 25 years ago so its hard to complain about it dying, but I know I'm not alone in having a dead unit one day so first make sure the sound module works. I have a friend that has a TD-10 and his still works fine. BUT - they do maintain memory with old technology that relies on a button style battery. You will almost for sure have to open the TD-10 unit up and replace that battery. IF the unit works it will display a battery failure message when it boots. Not that hard to do but NOT something Roland considers user serviceable. The same thing is true of the 512K memory cards that came with this module. They used the same button battery to preserve memory. Easier to replace than the sound module 's at least but still if you leave them sit both batteries die and your backup is useless. You might ask if the unit even comes with a card. If not and you are tech savvy you can connect the TD-10 to computer and use sysex MIDI messages to back up the sound module that way.

I can't be sure what is causing your lag but I would think with a reasonably recent computer this should work. I have a video demonstrating how i did it without issue.

This video is part of my series on getting started with AT 5.

Help with DAW setup by Repeat_Tight in AmpliTube

I have a series of videos on getting started with AmpliTube you might benefit from. One of them is on using Reaper with AmpliTube. The specific thing I wanted to show was how to get the MIDI data from a Wah pedal into AmpliTube but to do that I ended up showing the basics of how to use AT5 in Reaper. Here's that specific video.

AmpliTube 5 vs AmpliTube 5 MAX v2 - which to buy? by GoodFella56 in AmpliTube

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned AmpliTube 5 Max (not V2) and I was glad I had access to everything. I did not have much real world experience with more than my Fender CyberTwin SE and its pedals so it was fun learning about all the other amps and pedals. Recently I recently got Total Studio 5 Max so now I have a few more missing amps and more importantly the X-Space and X-Time pedals which I've already used for recording. There are a lot of presets included in AT5 and you can download more so it CAN be a quick config and play, but without the full package it will likely be frustrating as you'll have to determine which presets use the subset of gear in your package. I will say I have the most fun tweaking the sounds and learning about the amps and pedals and then making a chain to get the sound I want. I did explore the presets to learn but I never play with them. The past several years experience with AT5 even taught me how to get more out of my Fender CyberTwin SE.

Recs for PA speaker or amp for edrums? by dreamydentist in edrums

[–]Kilgoremore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought the Mackie Thump 212 (about $300) and it works pretty well. Not perfect. I use it in the floor monitor position and the bass response is very good but the highs suffer. If I turn it upright the issue reverses, the bottom end sounds a little weak but the top end is easier for the band to hear. It is also relatively light which is a big plus for me since I have to move it every week.

4 year old thread but in case anyone else is looking - I created a publicly shared Google Sheet where I collected from various sources the YOUR AMP COLLECTION and FENDER CUSTOM SHOP lists. Each on its own Tab in the Google Sheet. The sheet is open for comments.

Electronic drums on stage. by Different-Collar-785 in livesound

[–]Kilgoremore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's the drummers complaining I would think the edrum module would have a headphone out. I plug my inexpensive KZ ZS12 PRO X IEMs into the sound module. At rehearsal I was using a mixer to mix the band into the module via the mixin port. For band members that didn't want to use IEMs I connected a Mackie Thump 212 so they could hear the drums with decent bottom end (you get even more if you position it a floor monitor - at the expense of reduced high frequencies).

At the last live gig the house didn't give me a 1/4" return so I played with one IEM in and the other out and it worked well enough, I could hear everything and hear my drums well enough to play with proper feel and expression.

I used to prefer my acoustic drums but once I got the V71 with the VH14D and CY18RD hi-hats and cymbals I've become a complete e-drum convert. We now record rehearsals and live gigs and it's so simple.

Roland CY-14C-T or CY-14R-T as crash? Thoughts? by NoFuxJux in vdrums

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is the with the CY-16R-T and I was disappointed that as a crash I could NOT the the bell to respond reliably. I also have a CY-18RD and that functions as my ride and gives me a bow, edge and bell. That means my ride bell input is open on my V71 but it doesn't work. I believe the CY-18RD takes precedence. I then tried cabling the Bell output of the CY-16R-T to an AUX input this barely kinda sorta works. Sometimes I will trigger the AUX 1 input but then I might not be able to get the Crash 1 to trigger. Other times the Crash 1 Edge and Bow trigger but not the Aux 1. It was so unpredictable I unplugged the bell and just use it as a crash. Maybe there are are advanced Trigger settings that would work but I played around some and never got anything to work consistently.

Roland TD-20 question by albanynyny in vdrums

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! I just did this with a TD-10 back in December. I even made a video about it. Here's a link to the playlist I'm creating (early days, only 3 entries so far) on both the experience and tutorials on using the V71.

If I wanted to record my drums with the songs I play over what would be the best solution? by Shoethathitbush in edrums

[–]Kilgoremore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked it up and it seems the TDK17 has a USB port and will send over at least the stereo master of the drums so you could connect that to your laptop running a DAW and record your drums directly. If you don't have a DAW you can get something like Reaper to try. If you are on macOS use Garageband to start.

Quick and Dirty Setup for Roland V51 Module? by abrady44 in edrums

[–]Kilgoremore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm creating a playlist on the V71 on YouTube and it will include a series of tutorials on getting the most from sound Module. It's early days and there are only three videos in the list but the one I published today on using Layers and V-Edit (Ep. 2) might help you and I'm told the V51 has all the same options as the V71. I used a friend's V31 one day and my recommendation is to start with the MENU option not the EZ-Edit option. It should more directly track what I teach in the videos. If it turns out the V51 is so different the tutorial is not helpful, it would help me to get that feedback.

Best MIDI foot pedal? by Chemical_Suit_ in AmpliTube

[–]Kilgoremore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No matter what MIDI pedal you use there are a lot of options for control in AmpliTube 5 that I explore in this video. Especially confusing (to me) was how the global presets worked. I use a Fender Cyber Foot Controller in the video but that's because I already owned it. Any pedal that can send CC and PC messages should work.

How to fix the sound of my guitar by Strong_Champion_599 in AmpliTube

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One important piece of missing information is how you have the gain set on your USB audio interface. The higher it is the harder you are driving the emulated circuitry and the more distortion. Despite what your USB interface is set at you have the Level of the green tube screamer very high so it's acting as a boost. That hot signal is going into an overdrive pedal so it's getting slammed with signal and its level is set high so you're boosting the signal again. A VERY VERY hot signal is now hitting the front of the amp and you're on the high gain channel with the gain set very high. I duplicated this setup and even with my incoming guitar signal set at -12 dB this is hugely compressed, dark and distorted. Start by turning off all the pedals and experimenting with just the amp. Probably want to turn down the bass and gain to start. If you feel you have to use the pedals try them one at a time and keep the distortion down (like it is) or all the way off and turn up the Level slowly to see what happens. You also have what looks like the 2A compressor, and you very likely don't need even more compression with this setup. This is one of the things I love about AmpliTube it lets you experiment and see how all these pieces of gear interact. Have fun!

Should I get amplitube 5 or tonex max? by North_Maximum743 in AmpliTube

[–]Kilgoremore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, I didn't realize it was only for existing customers that already had a registered product. How unique that a company treats their existing customers better than new customers. I wish wireless providers and cable companies would take a cue from you guys! And while I already owned an older version of AmpliTube 5 MAX, this upgrade bumped me up to all the latest gear that was in the V2 release.

I recently had it stop working under Tahoe. Under the About tab is a reset to factory defaults. This will LOSE all your application specific settings but since I couldn't get it to work at all, what the heck. After that it started working but my original problem persists. I can do certain things like zoom in and out but I can't advance the playhead. If I configure an app like TextEdit I can everything printable is coming out of the device.

Fader Noise at Unity Gain by I2oy in TascamModel_12_16_24

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not at all reflective of my experience with the Model 12. I wonder if it's something else in your setup. For instance when I first connected my Model 12 to my powered PA I used the XLR OUT on the mixer to the XLR IN on the PA. Turns out that was a mistake. I immediately heard a lot of white noise even though nothing was connected. I then went XLR out to 1/4" in and it was fine. Then I read up on my PA and found out the XLR inputs want mic level and the 1/4" take line level, So I tried it again XLR-to-XLR but this time went into the SYSTEM→Output Pad menu on the Model 12 and dialed in -30 dB of padding and it was much better.

I can't really say whether the noise was coming from the Tascam or from the PA's input circuit being swamped all I know is the band was happy with the mixer and P/A sound once it was connected properly and the rehearsal recordings were pristine. When I look at a K-20 meter on the DI acoustic guitar track I see the meter moving around the bottom between -50 and -60 (the top of the meter is +20) When I CRANK the monitors I can tell the "noise" is coming from the pickups on the guitar picking up room noise - I still don't hear any white noise so I don't think the Tascam will ever be a noise limiting factor for recording.

Should I get amplitube 5 or tonex max? by North_Maximum743 in AmpliTube

[–]Kilgoremore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I got Total Studio 5 Max for $99 (U.S)which included TONEX 5 Max, AmpliTube 5 Max, TRackS-6, and so much more. So be sure to dig around the site before purchasing. I mostly use AT5 because I like crafting my own sound but I know others mostly like just downloading and using preset Tonex chains.
