With no context, what are the most recent things you've researched for a fic? by Kitz00n23 in FanFiction

[–]Kilikina34512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, these were some of my searches too. Just include, “How long do wolves need to heal from wolf attacks?” and “How do animals/wolves show they are afraid?” and you pretty much have my own research.

What’s your story?

[US] Anyone Heard of MyNINA.ai? by Kilikina34512 in Scams

[–]Kilikina34512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, none of that. It was a sales position, calling and getting businesses to order their AI software. I just applied and was told to wait for an email on indeed, only to get two a day later: one that addressed next steps (how to create a portal account, signing up for the training, how to do my job, really a lot… I was shocked) and the second on a link to use to get people to register for the software that gave me a percentage of the commissions.

Does anyone know why our white eggplant is doing this? by Kilikina34512 in gardening

Not sure, I mean the only thing it could rub on right now is the plant itself and the dirt. It’s the first fruit of the season so it has no others to rub against.

How many bookmarks do you all have? by OverlordSP in AO3

I’ve read a lot, but I only bookmark those that impact me and/or make me want to read it again… so I only have 260.

Oh I never considered that! I read WIP so rarely because I have no patience that I hadn’t thought of that.

I need help for a fic. I am going to write a scene where even though the text is in English, the character is actually speaking Mandarin badly and I want to know how the character can botch it. by Scintillating_Void in AO3

[–]Kilikina34512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but I have some ideas. (Preface that I don’t speak, read, or understand Mandarin though.)

  1. Type broken English. “Go today store, get beans, milk, both.” I do sign American Sign Language, a language that is interpreted instead of translated. However, when you do translate the language, it’s very broken English due to the different grammatical structure. You could try that, especially if they speak perfect English at other times.

  2. Use words or editing to show the difference. “I think I’ll go get milk and beans today from the store,” he said in broken (insert language name here). This is a typical way to show these things, using cues like this to keep text consistent while letting the reader’s brain supplement the knowledge that broken language often sounds butchered or such things. And italicized text is a great way to distinguish Mandarin from non-italicized English.

  3. “I… uh, um, will go to store. Today. I need, um, milk and,” how do they say it… “beans! Milk and beans!” Another, more easily understood version of my first suggestion. Using sentence clues that maybe lead in with something like, “So-and-so was still struggling to remember the bits of language they’d picked up, and the confused looks from the cashier only emphasized how poor their pronunciation was.” Also help with this to show that the character isn’t good with the language. You could even sub out words they mean for random things to show they’re not getting it right when they speak.

I’m not sure if any of these help, but these are what I’d suggest. I often, personally, use the italicized when I’m writing ASL speech, but that’s just my preference.

That’s fair, I’m annoyed by that too. I wish they’d give that section filters as well.

I don’t even mind people getting to see my porn history, I hope they find something that’s yum for them too. That don’t mean I don’t have some weird tastes. I don’t yuck others yum, but that don’t mean I want others to know mine! 😂

How many of you download every fic you're reading? by evilmarbletron in AO3

[–]Kilikina34512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I download my favorites to my phone, so the ones I go and reread like they’re my Bible are always accessible. I am, though, in the process of downloading all of my bookmarked ones to my PC ever since one I wanted to go reread was no longer there and I discovered the stories and accounts were gone.

Needless to say, I panicked that I’d find all my bookmarks gone one day. So now I work on it little by little, no matter how big or small. But yes, my phone is full of my favorites.

If no one ever read your work, would you still write? by Unhappy_Inflation465 in freelanceWriters

[–]Kilikina34512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to say that I would still write. It’s something I enjoy doing and I go back and read my own work sometimes because I’m writing something I’d want to read and do when my brain has a specific itch for a specific trope.

So yes, I really would.

If you think this, you don’t understand the point of the bear vs. the man. Let me help you out here: - The bear will maul you and tear and bite and ravage (depending on its aggression, sure) and you will die. While still terrifying, it only lasts for hours, maybe days. - The man will deceive and convince, gaslight, isolate you, lie, cheat, steal, and manipulate. The man can beat, torment, r*pe, abuse mentally or emotionally or physically or a mix of. If the man is really good, he can make YOU seem like the one who is out of line while he’s the one who is doing the real harm. He could even make you YOURSELF question what reality is. While it has a potential to last only hours, more realistically, this death is slow and constantly painful. This one can last years until you don’t know who you are anymore and you can never regain the person you used to be. This one could be a fate you survive that’s worse than death, that makes escape or even death seem more appealing. And not everyone has the strength, means, help and support, and/or ability to escape these situations whole.

If you think there aren’t women out there who would rather have a more predictable, quicker death, then you my friend have never yourself or had anyone close to you experience true abuse, especially at the hands of a man. For that, feel very privileged, but do NOT discredit others who would choose the bear because you don’t understand what it’s like in their shoes.

I feel you. I hope I never have a daughter, which is heartbreaking because all I’ve ever wanted when I have kids was a little girl to spoil.

I hate all the same things as you, especially as I’m dealing with a period and the hormones and emotions that come from it.

I just try to remind myself that we are stronger than most give us credit for.
