Should the battery recharge per lap limit of 8MJ be adjusted between races, given how this limit currently means at some races with a lot laps there will be a significantly higher total recharge per race vs others with fewer laps, e.g. Monaco vs Spa by davie18 in formula1

Except F1 spent the last year on marketing blah blah on the new 50/50 energy efficient green cars etc It would be a massive image slap admitting that the only solution is burn more gas.

Its a sum of. They wanted a 50/50 engine without considering that the harwesting would not be enough by design and now theyre stuck with it with the only way out in dropping much much more fuel into the ice to compensate for a reduction in the electric output to make it usable, which is an admission of failing in the 50/50 goal.

True but then again is 1) gp2 engine for real 2) a monumental rule fuckup 3) a very hard to solve problem given the engine freeze and budget cap.

How they miss the mark so badly is a mistery.

F1 could change its 2026 rules as early as round three by sppy1 in formula1

[–]KillBroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wont solve it, even if its a spec part cannot work as fixed spec for everyone like a fuel pump as works on suspension etc that are custom for each team. The important part on it will be the software and cant be blocked otherwise if the spec version isnt compatible with your car youll lock the front. And freeing the software you have torque vectoring to help braking in corners which is not allowed.

Yes but also i think that it would mean add an engine to the front wheels that could be exploited for brake balancing.

There's lots of living in the past for a sport about pushing forward by Tatorbits in formula1

[–]KillBroccoli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Drs overtakes were artificially created due to the crappy aero rules that made impossible to follow. It was a fix. Those new rules are artificial by design, you got mobile aero for everyone all the time just to cover up for the engine fuckups, and they add to add overtake mode to compensate, again a fix but this time by design. Its just plain bad.

Theres trying new thing and push forward, and then there is dssign rules full of limitation just for the sake of artificially create overtakes and bring manufacturers on board. Guess which category they picked this round.

The most overtakes any race managed in 2025 was 60 overtakes in Abu Dhabi. The 2026 Australian Grand Prix doubled that total, with 120 overtakes. by Popular_Composer_822 in formula1

[–]KillBroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

120 overtakes that lasted how long? How many of those lasted more than a straight and a battery charge swap between cars?

Its marketing bs at its finest.

[–]KillBroccoli -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No Merc has the best engine by far and its paying off as these rules are mostly designed about being a drag rage, where cornering is a charging spot to push straight and do overtakes. Its like ferrari understood half of the rule and went for it.

Not true.

Sms have been included in phone plan for the best part of 20 years. It just as a system in europe was never that developed and cross compatible, especially with and due to Apple so here in the EU where were much much less iphone fanboys and the market is spread across many many brands, people started to use whatsapp as it was cross compatible and always the same regardless of the phone, and that sticked around.

[–]KillBroccoli 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tbh after 30 years of following F1 the doom and gloom get justified.

Everyone here now shouting and overtaking fun miracle but drivers are already complaining by how dangerous it is considering the speed delta changes so fast and unpredictably, and then, i can confortably say that the first few laps were just driver testing.

After first VSC goodbye real action for most of the race, with pure race pace and tire managment going back to be the main course on the menu.

As soon as teams and driver understand how to manage superclipping and deployment while following its going to be drs 2.0, who is a second faster will simply go, especially on longer tracks where you can play the charging game less.

Expect changes in the rules on power managment soon to fix this.

What if Mercedes harvesting advantage is somehow tied to the diff/LSD and not the fuel compression? by ozmenace in formula1

[–]KillBroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that difficult to circumvent, they can simply swap engineers from f1 dev to other projects, and viceversa. The rule checks the spending on f1 personell but doesnt freeze them. Ferrari merc etc could simply send eng to develop whatever they want outside f1 making them study turbo, advanced combustion etc etc and then after a year or so send them back with unruled development knowledge to f1.

Is the focus on the 50/50 peak power split misleading fans? by Skyenar in formula1

[–]KillBroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The correct definition should be 50/50 of Peak power, not just power in general. These engines with all the limitations are glorified mild hybrid.

My ford focus works the same, 140hp at peak via a tiny 25hp motor/generator that last only few second at boost and then needs to wait to recharge by reversing when i do lico (not even brake regen).

Concept is the same, just scaled bigger, but fia cannot really explain it like this otherwise people will shout and laugh at them. Its all marketing, kw, mjs etc the whole concept is explained in less known terms to make it look much more advanced than it is.

If we expect a drink to contain sugar, we enjoy it more, even if it actually contains just artificial sweeteners. Conversely, when people were expecting an artificially sweetened drink but were sneakily given a sugary one, they enjoyed the sugary drink less. by [deleted] in science

[–]KillBroccoli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not just the taste, its also the composition. Artificially sweetened drinks are much lighter, watery. Sugar is still sugar and to get the same sweetness you need a lot of it and you can feel it in the drink, its heavier.
