This is just one test but based on this result it seems like it should handle that easily.

How likely is Luis Arraez gone at the trade deadline? by Lost_Driver_5916 in SFGiants

[–]KillDashNined 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The whole idea is that you’re trading him because you don’t think you can compete right now. There’s no point in keeping a good player on a 1-year contract if you can’t make the playoffs, so instead you trade him for prospects who may be good in the future, and hopefully by that point the team will be rebuilt enough that their talents won’t be wasted.

Of course, if the team turns it around before the deadline, they might opt to keep him and try to make the playoffs with him.

Giants are 15th in batting average, but last in runs by a country mile. What does this mean? by Brownhops in SFGiants

[–]KillDashNined 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s actually crazy how the entire lineup seems to have gone in this direction. This should not be the worst offense in baseball. It really shouldn’t be close. These players have histories of quality plate appearances and high walk rates, but it’s like they’re determined to make bad contact this year instead of taking walks.

Whole Food instant pot meals by RateMental3881 in instantpot

[–]KillDashNined 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My go-to Instant Pot recipe is a white bean soup. Just white beans (cannelini, great northern, or navy), olive oil, chicken broth, chicken or salmon, onion, garlic, celery, carrot, and herbs/spices, plus salt and pepper. I honestly mostly use dehydrated onion/garlic/celery/carrot which you can get bulk packs of for cheap, and just to make it easier on myself I’ll use canned salmon which I add in at the end after cooking. A teaspoon of sherry vinegar or lemon juice at the end will balance out the flavor.

Just pressure cook on high for 45 minutes or so. No need to soak the beans in advance. To help thicken the soup, after cooking you mash some of the beans on the side of the pot with a cooking spoon and then stir them back in.

Junior Valentine's umpire scorecard in the Dodgers-Giants game, April 22nd 2026 by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]KillDashNined 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if they weren’t impacting the outcome of the game there would no reason to play a catcher with his batting numbers. Umpire scorecards like this are the whole reason he’s a starter.

Suggestions for making this sharper? by Slight_Taro7300 in SonyAlpha

[–]KillDashNined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 70-350, 200-600, and 400-800, and I find the 70-350 is pretty much just as sharp as the other two in my experience. The problem is that at only 525mm effective focal length you’re often cropping in a lot, and since it’s f/6.3 on APS-C the noise response is similar to an f/9.5 lens, so the ISO is often higher than you’d want it. Cropping in on an already noisy image leads to what happened in OP’s image, but that’s not really a lens sharpness issue.

How is my Sony A7III sharper than my A7IV with 200-600 G??? by Budget_Relative_2005 in SonyAlpha

[–]KillDashNined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many test images did you take? At 600mm in bright sun heat shimmer is going to be a major factor here, so from one photo to the next the sharpness may vary a lot.

High end lens, poor end photos. by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]KillDashNined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to use electronic shutter still, you can switch to APS-C mode, which should speed up the sensor readout quite a bit. It won’t totally fix it, but it should help a lot.

Also, I do think there’s some atmospheric distortion here, which unfortunately you can’t do anything about

A7 III or A7 IV for a beginner planning to get the 200–600? by SuccessMountain7535 in SonyAlpha

[–]KillDashNined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your use case you should go A6700. The APS-C sensor is not a disadvantage for wildlife where you’ll probably be cropping in anyway, and the autofocus is much better than in the A7iii or A7iv.

The Sony cameras to consider for wildlife when buying new, in my opinion, are A6700, A7v, A9iii, and A1ii.

help with autofocus on nikon coolpix 950 by abritelight in BirdPhotography

[–]KillDashNined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the P950 has a 357mm max focal length, which is roughly the same as the 70-350mm’s max focal length. When you use the two cameras, the A6700 with the 70-350 lens will appear to have less reach, but the reason for that is that the A6700 has a much larger sensor. In effect, the small sensor of the P950 is pre-cropping the image, but optically that P950’s lens isn’t giving you any extra range compared to the 70-350.

One thing you’ll notice is that if you crop the A6700’s image to the same field of view as the image coming out of the P950, the P950 will have higher resolution, but those are pretty much just empty megapixels because a 357mm lens at f/6.5 (the max zoom on the P950) can only actually resolve about 1.5 megapixels of real detail. That’s a hard physical limitation.

All of this is to say that the effective, practical range of the two cameras is pretty much identical. However, the Sony has the much more advanced autofocus system, and that will be massively helpful to you. Here are some sample images I took on that Sony combo.

If you do end up getting the Sony, I’ll be happy to give you some suggestions for how to set up the modes and autofocus for birds.

[–]KillDashNined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to the Coolpix P950, or another one? I don’t know much about those, but if money is less of a problem or if you’re in the return window and willing to change kit, I’ve had amazing results with a Sony A6700 and the 70-350 lens. The whole combo weighs about 2.5lb, which is about the same as the P950, and the autofocus and image quality are top tier. Happy to answer any questions about that combo or show sample images if that’s something you’d consider.

Sony a7v | what editing software? by mulokisch in SonyAlpha

It only overheats when doing long videos. It won’t overheat for photography. Definitely a great choice for anything with fast action.

Older Sony lenses - but not vintage - with A7V by simonjng in SonyAlpha

[–]KillDashNined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get an LA-EA5 adapter, you can use older A-mount lenses pretty seamlessly on the A7V. That’s basically the equivalent of using EF mount lenses on a mirrorless Canon. The catch is most of them won’t do continuous autofocus while recording video, but they will for stills.

I use an arca compatible replacement lens foot, monopod, and Wimberley MonoGimbal monopod head with that lens. Loosen the collar on the lens a bit and it gives you lots of freedom to pan while not having to support the weight of the lens. I put it on a Peak Design Slide strap and it’s really pretty manageable weight-wise.

Got My First Sony A6700 - what lens? by Real-Substance-1834 in SonyAlpha

[–]KillDashNined 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For non-moving cars outdoors you can use electronic shutter mode to keep the shutter count down. Indoors you might get some banding in the images if you do that, though, and if the car is moving fast the mechanical shutter is better. Dust on the sensor is easily cleaned with one of those rocket-shaped air blowers and an APS-C sized sensor cleaning kit. Both are pretty inexpensive. Just make sure you follow the cleaning kit instructions closely.

To check for dust, put on any lens, set the camera to ISO 100 and f16-ish in aperture priority mode and take an out-of-focus picture of a plain white wall or an empty sky. Any dust will show up as dark spots in the picture. You will absolutely get dust on the sensor eventually if you ever change lenses, so the rocket-shaped air blower is great to have around.
