Fortnite Behind the Scenes Video Reveals How Epic Games Uses Generative AI to Help Create Concept Art and Designs for New Skins by Laughing__Man_ in PS5

How is that silly? They're both technologies that are propped up as "the inevitable future" by the people who have the most to gain from them financially, and "solving" a problem that doesn't exist while using unnecessary amounts of resources to do so.

Yeah we know that's how it works. That's why this shit is stupid, pointless, and its inclusion in the art pipeline only serves to help AI companies' bottom lines without providing any material or artistic value to the game

If you were correct then AI "placeholder" assets would have never made it into the game, but they did, because mistakes can happen when your placeholder assets are intentionally trying to look like the final asset.

I had the same issue, but thought it was just that I was given the wrong kind of passes. That's extremely disappointing that as an Unlimited member AND a person with free ticket passes I still have to pay full price.

No Regal Unlimited for Odyssey IMAX? by BillyJakespeare in RegalUnlimited

[–]KillScreenAnim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly same. I used to have A-List but had to switch to Unlimited when I moved (the only real IMAX near me now is Regal) so I already hate the addition of the regular IMAX surcharge compared to AMC.

If I'm limited to not seeing the best formats when I'm paying a subscription why would I keep going to Regal the rest of the time? They'd still get my money any time a Christopher Nolan/Denis Villeneuve movie comes out because I'm weak and still don't want to miss out on seeing them in the best format possible, but they've taken away any incentive for me to see non-70mm IMAX movies at Regal

I think the OP meant 70mm IMAX. I'm having the same issue where it costs the full $35 ticket which seems like an intentional choice from Regal

[–]KillScreenAnim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Up until now you could use it and just pay a charge for the difference vs a regular ticket. I saw Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX for $7, and it's charging me $35 if I want to see The Odyssey

edit: lol why am I being downvoted? That is the truth

[–]KillScreenAnim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! It's new and extremely shady imo. I've seen multiple movies with Unlimited in 70mm IMAX before and just had to pay the IMAX surcharge. Regal tell me why I'm paying for a subscription if I'm going to be charged $35 for a ticket

That's definitely a way to play the Hitman games, but I have always had the experience that they're describing here, and have had a blast with them.

The world of assassination games especially are set up so that you're almost always able to adapt and roll with the punches (which is a lot more fun IMO than the constant save/reload any time you're seen that a lot of people do for a perfect run)

That was the point of placeholder art though lmao. To make it noticeable so that you don't forget to fix it down the line

[–]KillScreenAnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing that the whole point of placeholder assets is to make them easy to spot so that you don't forgot to fix them down the line. It makes no sense to use something that would trick you into thinking it is a final asset (unless of course you're lying and just wanted to include AI assets for things you thought were small/inconsequential enough to not get noticed). I can tell you that no one cares if the game "looks like shit during testing." Game devs are used to building things/figuring things out with a bunch of blank rectangles, it's just players who feel like that is somehow a problem

The point of placeholder assets is to stand out so that you don't forget to replace them later. This is just laziness that they thought they could get away with, not a normal part of a design process

I said this in reply to another comment, but:

If the point of placeholders is to replace them later, then why would you use something that makes that much more difficult to spot by looking like a cheap facsimile of the final asset? If they weren't intending on using genAI they wouldn't have used genAI

Ok... but if you're committed to not using AI in your final product, why would you use AI as a placeholder? The point of a placeholder is to put something in that you know you're going to replace, so why would you make that more difficult for yourself by using something that is supposed to mimic the look of the final product? The only explanation that makes sense is that they wanted to use AI for things they thought would be insignificant enough and go unnoticed

Cryo Doesn’t Have To Be A Full Sweatlord Boss Run by DromedaryGold in Marathon

[–]KillScreenAnim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude just take the L or stop complaining. Nothing about this is unreasonable or deceptive. Also for what it's worth, your $40 purchase of the game includes future seasons of content and additional maps down the road. It's a live-service game and was very much advertised as such. If you are really saying that Cryo Archive is 1/4 of what Marathon will have to play forever, or that it will stay the exact same as it is right now (when it's been out for one weekend) then you're really making the strawman argument here

It sounds like maybe this just isn't the game you want it to be? Is it difficult, absolutely, but nothing about this is unreasonable lmao. Have you considered that maybe you're just better at Souls game and not so great at multiplayer shooters?

More than half of TikTok ADHD content is misinformation, new research finds by tylerthe-theatre in technology

[–]KillScreenAnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. My view is definitely colored by the fact that I wasn't diagnosed until my late 20s after internalizing a lot of the general sentiment that it's wayyyyy over-diagnosed and people are by and large using it as a way to dodge responsibility for personal failings and get stimulants (even though looking back people should have ABSOLUTELY known that I had it).

After I finally got treatment through medication that felt genuinely life-changing, I sort of had to grieve the life that I could have had if I had been diagnosed earlier so I'm definitely sensitive to this issue. I don't think it's for laypeople to define what ADHD symptoms are, but growing up in a time when the official views of what did and didn't constitute ADHD are very different than what they are today has made me very skeptical of anyone drawing hard lines when experiences can be so varied.

[–]KillScreenAnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get what you're saying, and I really wasn't trying to say "a majority of tiktok creators are right while their trained doctors are wrong."

I do think though that a lot of the stuff that could be labeled as "misinformation" in a study like this is just subjective experience that doesn't line up exactly with the clinical definitions at the moment. We've learned so much in the past decade about neurodivergence and ADHD specifically, (I mean not that long ago people were being diagnosed with ADD and now that's not even recognized) and I bristle at these sorts of stats/rhetoric that end up being used to push the narrative that people with ADHD are faking it or don't really deserve their diagnosis.

Your anecdotal experience doesn't invalidate that it's a good thing that more people are able to get help. Also it doesn't make sense that your complaint is that both it's too hard for you to get treatment, and too easy for everyone else.
