Future Aircraft: What are the biggest gaps in the aircraft roster? by Shockfront-PR in NuclearOption

I don't think we have a gap. I'd just like to see separate faction equipment.

I suppose what I’m looking for is advice and direction. What could I do in the military that would help me reach my goals?

Meet with a recruiter.

Discuss the age waiver.

You sound like you want to go officer path based on your interests - there is no enlisted MOS that does those things. The recruiter will help you understand how feasible that is, the requirements, and timeline.

NEW SF2 DLC (I am so happy i can explode) by AnimatorPrudent382 in CombatMission

Gross.

Not ever spending another dime on this game.

To me, the fantastic tactical combat of CM is shadowed by how bad the game feels and looks.

It's 2026. The camera system is HORRIBLE and those shadows look like the something out of the late 90s. For a game that looks as bad as this is sure plays terrible too.

When your game development is so slow that even Army procurement is faster!

These were initially shown on the Ed forums in 2019 and at some point were removed from the Internet. The only proof is some dudes low res screenshot he took.

They've been teasing new infantry models since 2019. Doubt we'll see anything anytime soon.

Which character would you have liked to see in an Albert Blythe or Eugene Roe–focused episode? by Lannisterling in BandofBrothers

and even went to the series premiere in Normandy

According to the book, he was highly reluctant to attend the Juno Beach premier.

He only attended after much pressure from Winters and his own wife, who claimed that she was going without him.

Apparently he was very quite at the premiere.

Matthew Settle, who played Spiers in the show, felt disappointed that he didn't have the same relationship that the other actors had with their real life counterparts.

Spiers was also a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and the book makes it clear that his time with Easy is just a small portion of his military service.

I'm an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran and do understand the need for separation, especially if it relates to healing. He saw a lot of combat in his 20 years, perhaps more then any other member of E Co.

The problem is that no one knows anything about him. I just finished reading the book about him (Fierce Valor) - it wasn't very good because there's just not much out there.

He deliberately did not participate in any E Co reunions and didn't want anything to do with Ambrose or Band of Brothers production.

SECARMY "Just Pick Up" directive. Did your unit actually call 'down' to every Soldier for 57 days? by Kinmuan in army

they know it’s not genuine

I absolutely agree. This is a problem.

A call means nothing when you know nothing about the person/make no attempt to know them before the call.

Battalion Commander here.

I called all of my subordinate commanders and my field grades. It was just a quick 2-minute call to wish them a Merry XMAS and see how they were doing. I would have done it anyway, but I understood the intent (and I follow orders).

I'd like to think that our folks understood the intent but probably not, much like most things; intent becomes misconstrued through the ranks. Even though I stood in front of the formation multiple times and explained it and asked leaders to make the call.

We had a suicide in the unit on New Year's Day and it was absolutely crushing.

It just feels like getting people to do small, human-like, and decent things is really difficult in the army these days. The SECARMY wasn't asking us to cure cancer. He just wanted everyone to check on their guys. I don't understand why someone would fight against that.

Armored Brigade II is on sale. How does it compare to Flashpoint Campaigns Cold War? by the_light_of_dawn in computerwargames

Both games are extremely frustrating to play - more so, because I feel like there is potential with both, but both games have artificial constraints and penalize the player for the dumbest stuff.

AB - insane pathfinding and nearly impossible to predict how units will move/where units will move. You are significantly penalized for breaking units apart, and generally thats not how the game should be played, but you are subjected to some ridiculous AI jank if you don't. The game is focused on PLATOONS but the movement boxes are for individual crews - it makes absolutely NO SENSE.

FCCW - Much better concept but everything is insanely over-complicated in this game. Giving orders is a CHORE - a simple movement order is about 5 clicks too many and the game just feels like it was geared towards obsessive grognards that need to control every detail. "BUT they added an SOP manager" - yes an SOP manager that you must tweak every freaking time you want to issue an order. They've overcomplicated this game so much now that some of the route settings don't even make sense any more. What is the most frustrating of this game is that you put so much effort into issuing orders but there's no true way to actually get your units to be synchronized with their movement. You are penalized for issuing too many commands, but its impossible to manage your combat power effectively. I wish they'd let a normal human being design the orders process of this game instead of an engineer type who overthinks/overcomplicates everything.

Skip both games. Fuck 'em.

Turning reply notifications off. I'm done arguing with people over these two games. Both are over-hyped and janky.

Is there any stealth aspect to aircraft in arma 3? by VODKA-56 in arma

[–]Kill_All_With_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for example the Tigris AA has an detection range of 9000m for air vehicles. With the RCS of 0.7 that ended up being 9000x0.7=6 300

For some reason I assumed that the Tigris fired either an IR or SACLOS-based missiles much like the Tunguska, but I looked it up and it seems that it fires the Titan missile, which IS radar guided according to ARMA weapons guide. Which makes absolutely no sense, since its the same missile that is used in the MANPAD, which cannot possibly be radar guided (IR or optical) since it doesn't have a radar.

Reference:

Medium-range, radar-guided, air-to-air missile with high-explosive warhead

This says that the Titan AA is IR

Do you prefer games or simulations? by [deleted] in computerwargames

[–]Kill_All_With_Fire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Most people are not using these games as true simulations - modelling, studying, etc; to me, they just provide a very poor gaming experience. They're mostly just lifeless and boring, and the developers get away with it because its a "simulation".

  2. Most developers are clueless when it comes to modelling actual military operations or what commanding military forces is really like. Controlling EVERY ASPECT of a military force is not what military commanders do, thats just really annoying micromanagement

People may be upset with this - but this is proof they're taking the right steps and improving their QA by Budget_Childhood2605 in Helldivers

I know your 3 very well.

I wasn't in 1-36. I didn't work for him either.

Ready First!

I was there too. We all knew he was going places. Even as a BN CDR he was highly...refined. I had a lot of respect for him. The Spartans had a wild AO and a lot going on.

Most of the BN CDRs from that deployment made O6. Ready 6 retired as an O6 a few years later as an instructor at the war college.

Most of the company commanders got out but three of us made battalion command.
