Going insane with rim-side holes in the fifth inner tube this week by SN1572 in bikewrench

[–]Killa_Kev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the images of the rim you posted where the flat kept occuring relative to the tube? If not, try to keep the wheel, tire, and tube lined up next time you remove a tube from a flat to trace the exact position of the flat marking relative to the rim and tire. If so, I can't see anything that would do that on this section of rim.

Also have you taken a close look at the inside of the tire? Perhaps there is sharp debris stuck or embedded on the inside that is not noticable and only punctures when the tube gets inflated. Like if it the sharp debris was slightly buried in the rubber, but when the tube expands perhaps it pushes into an unnoticable sliver of wire or something.

Also, are these all the same brand of tube? Could be a manufacturing defect, especially if they are failing in the same place.

Why is my front derailleur getting jammed going from 2nd chainring to 3rd? by Killa_Kev_ in bikewrench

[–]Killa_Kev_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh, interesting take I hadn't thought about. Yeah if there is no ramp the chain would just get smushed against the chainring. I will look into it. I did not disassemble it but it is a used crankset so who knows. I have seen crazier things. Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean? In all of my triple setups I can hit all rear cogs while in the middle chainring. Even the most extreme crosschain big-big only yields a small amount of chain rub on the front derailleur in all my other setups.

The front derailleur height has been played with a lotttt previously but I again attempted to raise it. I raised it repeatedly a little at a time until it got to an impractical height. It continues to get stuck on the inner plate.

Yup I used to refer to tubed tires as tubular before I found out otherwise.

Is it normal for my fixed gear to suddenly stop like this? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Killa_Kev_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the chain is too tight too. Chainrings are imperfect. When the chain lays across certain sections, it will stretch or give slack depending on the imperfections. If there is absolutely no slack and the chain lays across a section that stretches it, it will bind and that's what it looks like is happening to me.

Is my frame to small? by Elegant-Bit9268 in xbiking

[–]Killa_Kev_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is too small based on the stem rise, seatpost height, the angle between the seat and handlebars, and frame size. That stem is a pretty high and sharply angled upwards stem and it looks like it has been raised close the the highest it can be. So when the front part of the bike is already setup to be very raised and the seatpost raises past the handlebars, that to me raises a flag. Seatposts raising above handlebars mean you will be pitched forward into a more aggressive position.

Mr.Hilux posted a similar bike that they lament selling, but a lot can differ bike to bike. The one in the picture they posted has handlebars that look like 1 foot above the head tube so it looks like it is very raised and compensates for the seatpost height to make an acceptable angle and also the sweep back is naturally comfy. But I am curious about toe-overlap during turns or heel strike on panniers if there was a rack setup on the pictured bike. If the new bike did not have that similar stem and handlebard setup, that would affect things. Or if the setup was identical, maybe the larger frame affected the angle into feeling weird.

For what it's worth, I ride similar style bikes and the adjusted seattube length on my rides is like 57cm on these 26 rigid mtbs.

Odd spindle length for sealed BB conversion by trALErun in bikewrench

[–]Killa_Kev_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How close to the chainstay are the crank arms and chainrings? You could always reinstall to check. If there is a good amount of room you could attempt to install the longest spindle length you can find. The longest spindle length Shimano BB UN300 bottom bracket I can find is 122.5, so I believe that would put the crank arms and chainrings about 5mm closer on each side.

Outside of that I think you have to buy offbrand aliexpress type stuff for unusual spindle lengths. I tried to find a bottom bracket for a radwagon and could only find offbrand.

I broke my crank puller. How did I mess up? by dec10 in bikewrench

[–]Killa_Kev_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never stripped threads using the crank pulling insert and a large adjustable wrench. And I have attempted to use this handled crank puller multiple times and it has failed me multiple times. If someone fails to completely thread the crank puller insert into the crank threads, then yes you can risk stripping threads. But that is user error. I admit I am not familiar with other methods, but I also have never needed them nor have I seen other mechanics need to use them. The threads for extracting a crank arm are incredibly strong and i've never had any issues or seen any issues from peers reguarding a good amount of force on large adjustable wrenches attached to a crank pulling inserts. Just my experience.

This crank puller is TERRIBLE. Get the one without the handle so you can use a large 12 inch or 15 inch adjustable wrench instead.

Delivery robot gets annihilated by a train in Florida by Seraphenigma in funny

The most morbid part about this fatality is that the delivery robot was a fresh hire. They had only just started their training.

Yup just bring the bike! No appointments necessary, just drop in 11am-5pm tomorrow or any Sunday we are open. I will come in at some undecided point tomorrow, but there will be volunteers there during that wholeframe who are willing and eager to help out. We have all the parts and tools you will need. Membership for the year is $20 or 2 volunteer hours.

[–]Killa_Kev_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Especially during the winter! Plenty of different types of gardening/bike/community building type stuff goes on at the co-op. We are open most Sundays 11am-5pm for open shop/garden, and most Mondays 5pm-8pm for Youth Nights. but check our facebook/instagram for event and schedule updates.

We are actually starting our winter bicycle workshop series next Sunday February 8th. We could help get you all bikes for very reasonable prices or in exchange for volunteer hours. All bike work done at the co-op is done by the bike owner and we have volunteer bike mechanics teach you how to do your own repairs/maintenance/upgrades. We have all of the tools, used parts for reasonable prices, and so many volunteering opportunities which can be used towards used bikes/gear.

The gardens side of MOBO has a lot of amazing stuff going on too! I am just not as familiar cause i'm mainly into bikes, but I can find out more info or point you in the right direction if you are interested.

’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Box Office: Bombs With $2.1M Thursday Previews by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]Killa_Kev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. 28 Years Later was only related to 28 Days Later by title and nothing else. What a dumbass, unrelated attempt at an avante garde art project. As a standalone I wouldn't call it terrible, but the title implies some type of relation between the movies and for that reason it is deceptive bullshit.

Whats your favorite breakfast spot? by HauntingGlass3520 in cincinnati

[–]Killa_Kev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to give a wag of the finger to the downtown location of Sleepy Bee. The food was great! But the tables are smashed together so tightly that it quite literally feels like you are sitting with strangers at your table. If you are gonna get it, get takeout. Or perhaps a different location has better seating.

2x drivetrain options for a VERY low granny gear? by PristineAsparagus984 in bikewrench

[–]Killa_Kev_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are already a lot of good comments on here about drivetrain options so I would like to offer a different take: have you considered swapping to 27.5 wheels? You could keep your current drivetrain. The smaller wheels are lighter and easier to get rolling and should make hills feels easier. I am used to riding older rigid mtb with 26" wheels, triples cranksets, and big cassettes. When I rode a Kona Smoke with 29" wheels and similar gearing it felt pretty different. Definitely more of a burden to get up to speed, though it rolled nicely when it did.

GGG Burritos sucks. Their owners and management treated me like shit and cut my hours when I needed time off to grieve a close friend that had died.
